Advice needed
by Peony incan someone tell me the scriptural basis (according to jw's) for shunning disassociated ones.
only asking because i don't remember (probably wasn't that interested) i'm sure the shunning in the scriptures was just applied to disfellowshipped.
i've only been out 3 years but i seem to have forgotten any scriptures or reasoning!

I suggest checking out the insight book, in a nutshell its basically "well big J's people would have stoned you to death, so this is a nice gift from the big guy that we only emotionally torture you" . "if we could we'd still stone you but he says no for now" -

i just want to take 1 post to beg those reading to speak up.
it was a big turning point for me and one of the best decisions i made.

Making you feel afraid and alone is (when you have a doubt or a concern) is a very powerful tool that is only real in your mind. To empower yourself, you need to see that you can speak with critics of ANYTHING, agree or disagree, and form your own conclusions. Its a power that's been taken away from many of us, and having a safe forum to open that door will help tremendously.
Its also a great place to throw down on controversial issues if you can take the heat lol.

It is 5am and I still can't sleep. Contemplating life, doing research on religion, world history, science...
by Stepford Wife inmy husband is still asleep but he will get up in about an hour for work so i'm going to quickly tell you my inconclusive conclusion.
i don't know if i can believe in god anymore.
i have come to the simple conclusion that he is either dead or evil but he is definitely not loving.

I never slept better than when I came to terms with disbelief in God. Seeing the universe as an indifferent place (which used to seem like a terrifying thought) has been the most liberating.
I heard Imagine by John Lennon on the radio the other day, that song has a whole new meaning to me.

Fading is never 100% successful is it?
by nicolaou inmum phoned last night to see how we all are.
after fifteen years away from meetings and my old jw life you'd think my fade could be called 'successful' and for the most part it is.
.. my resentment at being lied to and having wasted over thirty years of my life has left me like a glass of water full to the brim, it only takes a tap to make a mess.

It was an argument by proxy. So here I am after a sleepless night telling you guys about it at 4.30 in the morning.
It's never really over is it?Don't feel bad Nicolau. No matter how far we get from it, or how much we grow and heel it will always be a part of who we were. In life we can't control the hand we are dealt, just the way we play it. You are playing it well to be where you are now. Don't let the inevitable resurfacing of this sh-t steal your peace for too long. Do something to celebrate how far you have come.

Every Know Anyone Too "Weak" To Wake Up?
by freemindfade ina jw that is probably irregular, they don't really attend meetings, they are not up on anything going on, they may even seem like they are faded but they are not, they are just slackers.
a jw that is impervious to the f.o.g.
(ok maybe it bums them, but they are too lazy and self serving to do otherwise).

Sorry to hear that closer. I never thought I'd see my wife back off like she has. She had to honestly see the negative toll the religion took on me and one day things changed. I know for some it happens, for some it doesn't. But if you aren't happy in your life change can be a good thing. No one should hold on to a toxic situation forever. Hope you find some solutions. -

10 years in prison and 2,000 lashes for saying he was an Atheist
by fulltimestudent inthe tide of disbelief is rising and only fools think they can stop it.
but some are too stupid to understand that fact, as this news story from saudi arabia demonstrates:.
american ally saudi arabia is the perpetrator of this crime against humanity.

I think you are still thinking with the JW glossary of terms. Many things theysay imply one thing, mean another. Many terms have been hijacked by the religion.
"Truth" doesn't mean truth. It means What you have to believe according to a religion
Being "good" means nothing more than obedient.
"Unconditional love"...
many people do not fully understand what these things really mean until they get out.
I stand by my claim that the root cause behind most JW actions is fear!
"I go door to door because I love mankind so much!"... next breath, "they didn't listen to me, what jerks, I'll take their house after Armageddon". and at the meeting "if you don't go out and knock on doors YOUR BLOOD GUILTY". Stop going out in service for a while..."is everything ok, we haven't seen you out in a while" how embarrassing and disingenuous of an elder who has never spoke to me and barely knows my name to falsify concern because of numbers on a little piece of paper that is going to get him chewed out by the CO.
This religion, as with most, is a social technology designed to control through fear. There are people with good intentions who do good things, in my experience the majority of JW good deeds were done for "theocratic reasons." seldom just to be a decent human. I have seen profoundly more unconditional love and genuine human kindness outside the walls of a kingdom hall. It make come in smaller doses but it is far more real.
