Are Witnesses really "Bible Students"?
by stuckinarut2 inwe were always told that as witnesses we were "sincere bible students".... carefully examining the scriptures.. yes, we were indeed taught much about the content of the bible, it's history, prophecies etc..... but it was always from one perspective....that of the society.
when the society changed its interpretations, we had to do the same..... so were we really "bible students", or "society students"?.
just a thought.....

They are watchtower students
Witnesses have an eisegesis approach to the bible which makes their understanding an absolute joke.
On the other hand exegesis is an attempt to determine the historical context within which a particular verse exists – the so-called "Sitz im Leben" or life setting.
they ignore everything but what they want to get out of the text, 2+2=5 if you will.

what do you think is the main reason why so many young ones are waking up?
by Crazyguy inseems as though the number of baptisms even for the young ones is down from what people report here.
at my former hall the young ones are all in totally sheltered even while going to school.
expressing thier desires to pioneer etc.

Because in this day and age of readily available information, you have to be insane to believe the bronze age sheep headers guide to the galaxy. Truth (real truth) is now harder to control. -

Todays WT about young people not following the bad example of their parents
by konceptual99 inso the wt today had some paragraphs that told young people they could make their own stand for da troof.... 2 since we live in a fierce, loveless world, it is no surprise that many children have to grow up without the benefit of loving, protective parents.

3:1-5) many christians today come from painful family backgrounds, but they have built close friendships with jehovah.

Didn't they basically make a backhanded comparison of the man in the illustration in the easy chair to one of the homicidal maniac Jew kings in the sheepherders guide to the galaxy? -

The Jehovah’s Witness bagged themselves a Big One when they got Professor Raj Kalaria, to speak about his belief
by Watchtower-Free inuk scientist helps christian cult to promote creationism.
the jehovah’s witness bagged themselves a big one when they got professor raj kalaria, above, to speak about his belief in creationism in a new video posted online by the cult.. keralia is currently a deputy director of the newcastle centre for brain ageing and vitality, newcastle, and a professor of neuropathology at newcastle university, uk.. when ex-jehovah’s witness lloyd evans, who runs jwsurvey, discovered that an april 2016 jw broadcasting episode featured keralia, he decided to:.
reach out to newcastle university to find out whether it endorses the academic’s stance on evolution, and found myself in a rather frustrating email exchange with helen rae, the media relations manager at the university’s faculty of medical sciences .. after much to-ing and fro-ing, an official statement was finally forthcoming ….

Keralia is a professor in neuropathology? Is it just me or is it a stretch to call this man a scientist? Sounds like a rouge academic to me. Also look at ben Carson, he's a freaking brain surgeon who is not only a bible thumping creationist, but believed some pretty wacky stuff about the pyramids. Also he ran for president but that is not as impressive as brain surgery. -

WTBTS vs. Islam
by kairos inthe articles and meeting parts have been missing something all along, as far as i can see.. jws are taught to demonize all 'worldly' ( not jws) organizations, individuals and religions as having no value only to be destroyed by god at 'harm-you-gettin'-( armageddon ).. why do they not mention islam?no scathing denouncements?.
the only publication i really remember, was the "mankind's search for god" book that touched on the beliefs and practices of muslims.. why do you think this is the case?.

I think acknowledging other religions too much highlights the convoluted nature of religion and similarities to themselves. I think their poster religion to attack is Catholicism because they are a big apethetic easy target. The picture of Babylon the great. All others, Islam, other cults like Mormons and Scientology I think they'd just rather ignore because its to complicated to complain about what makes them bad when its the same thing as the jws. -

This is something that I told my wife a while ago when waking up. That just the mere idea of 'God' creates such confusion, violence, and other "fruits" if you will, how can it be good? It's not one single doctrine, its this Abrahamic bully god. If people took away what they want form the bible without influence form any religion, if they believe it, the take away would be bad. -

I have tried really hard to be worldly, for ten years, tried to get worldly friends, and get back with family.
by Sledracer ini am so bad at being worldly, it's not like i gave it a good try, we are just not good at it my husband and i, i see him light up as he has started to read the bible again.
i'm good at being a witness, i am accepted, and hold the same beliefs, i have tried to find somewhere else, if there is a place, why hav'n't jehovah and the angels directed me to it?
thank you for all the loving posts, some of them have been just what i needed.

You will find witnesses idolize and worship unity, and this is the big central doctrine that underlies all else, but unity does not always = good, in fact sometimes it means people have lost their freedom of thought.

To sledracerI will try not to be negative about this as your choice seems genuine and honest. The most important thing is too be honest and live your life as your true self, you seem pretty convinced JW you is the real you. I know some people that if they weren't JW might be drug addicts lying in a gutter or dead, it does happen, some people need to be told what to do. Hell, there are some people who can't function outside the walls of a prison, but inside they are at home. Freedom aint for everyone.
To lurkers
To others who read this I would just say this, Trying to be "worldly" may still be trying to be something you are not. You should find out who you are and be that person. There is beauty in the struggle if you don't give up. Religion is a social technology that runs on fear, when you stop being afraid you do see it as a prison you were in. If you don't really want out, you'll never really leave.
