LOL Deut 13:1-5
by Jonathan Drake inomg i've never read this before or if i did i never caught it... .
13 [a]if a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder,2 and the sign or the wonder comes true, concerning which he spoke to you, saying, let us go after other gods (whom you have not known) and let us serve them, 3 you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams; for the lord your god is testing you to find out if you love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul.
4 you shall follow the lordyour god and fear him; and you shall keep his commandments, listen to his voice, serve him, and cling to him.

I liked it before the Jehovah's Witnesses became jw.org and they were told social media was the devil! Then you didn't have to deal with these @$$holes talking like this.
I remember I have always had myspace, then facebook, then instagram... some of my family criticized me and other family to no end for having such things when they denounced them at the district convention.
Now they all have them even their little kids exploiting them to no end. wish we could go back lol.

I was unable to sleep because of my ongoing turmoil with my family and my wife's ongoing naivety about what they are trying to accomplish. And i came to another thought about this group, the witnesses.
They say "I put jehovah first!! above family and my wife and ANYTHING". Is that true? Some of us would say it's actually the board of directors (GB), or the organization they put as highest. But I say this, the most protected God of the witnesses is their UNITY.
This comes above Jehovah, above Jesus , even above the Board of Directors (GB). They push truth, compassion, reason, and much more to the back for the sake of UNITY. This is why they are a cult. Their self proclaimed "Oneness" and "unity" always is most important.
Unity is not always good, when things such as truth, free thought, rationality, criticism, love, and protection of individuals is lost to the unity of the group, this is what makes the child abuse situation so abhorrent, not that it happened, not even that policies were bad. It's that now for their god UNITY they demonize the victims, the rank and file refuse to believe anything about it other than it's apostate, they do not admit their part in the wrong that has happened... all for what? To protect their most precious UNITY.
We are told this organizations "miraculous" unity is due to LOVE. What we see and know (outside of what we were told) is that its FEAR, IGNORANCE & LIES keep the unity strong. This is the witness holy trinity of blind unity. Fear, ignorance, and lies to make up the almighty, infallible UNITY.

How do you feel about religion as a whole?
by FatherFirst init just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.
just curious, a personal poll if you will.
what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?

Not really, the idea is to say that people are good because of religion that could also be like saying people are good because of a political ideology.
Maybe its better put this way, there are just bad people and good people, or evil things and good things, no ideology (including political or religious) are the ultimate source of GOOD.
People want to hang their hat on someone telling them what to do and picking the best possible source instead of just being personally liable for upholding good regardless of any man made institution.

Truthseeker100 I agree with that. Clearly in human history the idea of religion was a great exercise in imagination and theoretical thinking of a much different time. I just feel maybe in our evolution this thing we created became a prison for our imagination. Dogma. Doctrine. The dark ages were when it was at its most inhibitory and mankind actually took steps backwards and prolonged their evolution by destroying free thinkers. -

millions of people's lives are being adversely affected every day by jehovah's witnesses' (also known as jw.org) harmful teachings of shunning former members, refusal of certain kinds of medical treatment, social isolation, and harboring of child molesters.
the goal of this campaign is to sponsor a billboard that will be targeted to current members traveling to the belton, tx conventions july 31st - aug 9th 2015. these conventions attract thousands of current members and hundreds of prospective members.

“With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” ― Steven Weinberg

Atheism
by Jonathan Drake inrecent events and book reads (one suggested by cofty i believe- thank you) have lead me to the only logical and acceptable conclusion:.
there is no god.. simple logical reasoning: matter can neither me created or destroyed.
so the amount of mass in the universe is constant.

Whenever I am feeling especially Godless I enjoy a good stroll through some instagram accounts that deal with godlessness and atheism. They are quite good for mid day boost in enjoying being awake.
I have recently been enjoying one called atheistproblems.
Anyway, it can give some levity, or some serious thought provoking firepower for you.

Lack of belief in God or a God is not a claim that there is no God.
