i am one of the moderators on this board.
i have locked your discussion regarding being gay.
i have done this for a couple of reasons the responses you are getting are not helpful.
That topic was fast becoming trouble. The moderator made a decision. I'd live with it.
.

I think something to do with islam
Tell ya what, is it me or recently is there a lot more folks getting disfellowshipped? Also are we getting more lurkers posting and new members? Seems a lot of people appearing of late
aye, dunno. its 4:28am so i will sleep shortly
i was so excited to come upon this website today!
it's so nice to read logical, educated voices who have been brave enough to walk away from this organization.
i was raised a jw, and every person that i personally know that has left has ended up miserable.
The beauty of this place is in the variation of different people and circumstance yet how the ones that leave can come to the same conclusion. Its a lie.
Welcome to the board, enjoy your stay

ok but just make sure your well up on the subject. Read my topics on the matter, look for the familiar dates and everyone elses topics. ASK!!
609 = Beginning of the 70 years, but not by the destruction of Jerusalem. Read Jeremiah 25:9-12.
Verse 9: Mentions surrounding nations
Verse 12: Says the 70 years would end when the Babylonian King was called to account and that nation.
-------
Yes there are other scriptures but these two are the CLEAREST ones that give a final answer.
ONE real thing you may want to point out. One Elder said that the dating given from a tablet (wordly sources) and non-biblical sources don't matter so much. Personally i don't hold that against him, were allowed our own opinions but if that was the case why do the society use a Babylonian Tablet in the insight book to prove something that it doesn't?
Now open your Insight book Volume 2 at page 326. Note the picture of the tablet there. The same as the British Musuem one without a doubt.
Compare what the Society says it says and what the British Musuem says thats on it. The society can either choose to not accept a source or accept it. Who said they can lie about what it says?
Insight book: "Babylonian chronicle that tells of Nebuchadnezzar’s capturing Jerusalem, seizing the king, and appointing one of his own choice; 617 B.C.E"

Well i suggest you look yourself at these points.
The society say that the 70 years ended when those in exile returned home. They do say that in 539 BCE was when Cyrus overthrew Babylon, get the Daniel Book: Chapter 3 - Page 45 - Paragraph 36 and it says
" As for Daniel, the closing verse of chapter 1 says: "Daniel continued on until the first year of Cyrus the king." History reveals that Cyrus overthrew Babylon in one night, in 539 B.C.E. Evidently owing to his reputation and stature, Daniel continued to serve in the court of Cyrus. In fact, Daniel 10:1 tells us that "in the third year of Cyrus the king of Persia," Jehovah revealed a noteworthy matter to Daniel. If he was a teenager when he was brought to Babylon in 617 B.C.E., he would have been nearly 100 years old when he received that final vision. What a long and blessed career of faithful service to Jehovah!".
------------
Now on the face of this the Society leave no holes. Open Jeremiah 25:12 in the New World Translation. It reads as follows.
"‘And it must occur that when seventy years have been fulfilled I shall call to account against the king of Babylon and against that nation,’ is the utterance of Jehovah, ‘their error, even against the land of the Chal·de´ans, and I will make it desolate wastes to time indefinite"Now you tell me, how does that allow for 537 as the date. From that scripture i can see the 70 years ended when the Babylonian King was called to account! 539.
539 + 70 years = 609

What was said that 537 was the date that we add 70 years to it for 607. So you know that date is two years after 539 when the jews arrived home. Now on the face of it you have to accept that until you check the bible, and it says the 70 years ENDED when the babylonian king was punished. (Jeremiah 25:12) which is in 539.
This will prove the point.
exodus 31:16 says...
keeping the sabbath is still suppose to be kept by anyone who believes in jesus christ.
this is supported by mark 2:27-28. it says..
"And He answered and said to them, And why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?" - Jesus
2.Pharisees said to him, Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?
3. Jesus answered, Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? In the days of Abiathar the high priest, he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.
(Col. 2:14-17; Gal. 4:10,11).
