Even so, at this point it seems like even the poorest people are better off than they were years ago when things were less unbalanced.

It always amazes me when I see the cleaners in my office walking around talking on their $60 a month $2-300 smart phones.

I don't recall when things were less unbalanced than now.

BTW, it is nearly mandatory to have a cell phone now - it is how people communicate. Some people get jobs and business through their cell phones. My son works a FT job and gets calls to repair computers on the side. Working multiple jobs is how some people make ends meet.

Your real question is - "How do I deal with the resentment I feel toward my parents?"

Some find it helpful to write it all down in a letter to the offending party (even if that party is no longer alive). Explain to your parent's how their belief system was imposed upon you and has materially affected your life in a negative way, that you were denied the educational opportunities that they themselves enjoyed. Include the things that you personally would have done differently had you not been hamstrung by the WTS. And try to say a few words about how you forgive them - they were misled also.

This will help with the resentment part of your dilemma.

Do you feel guilty?

so while i was out hiking with the dogs today i got to thinking about this forum and was wondering how many of you still feel guilty from time to time for leaving?

i do, i miss my family at times but then i think about the life that i have created and i have a good one, i have good friends and i am happy, happier then i ever was as a jw.

i was just wondering if others feel the same way sometimes..

Guilt is a WTS tool that they wield in so many ways. You are a sensitive, caring person and that is just the typle of individual that they prey upon most effectively. Against all common wisdom, this is the one time to put yourself first - kind of like the airline advice to put your breathing device on before you try to help anyone else.

New Year Resolution: A new recipe every week

we decided we don't cook enough and are pretty bored of what we usually eat (whether home-made or eating out).. so .... our new years resolution for 2014 is to try a new recipe every week.. so far we've done some jamie olivers roasted vegetables and right now we're making cornish-like pasties.

apparently, people are very militant about exactly what a cornish pastie is so our's are cornish-like because dammit, we wanted peas and carrots and whatever seasoning we wanted to stick in there too!.

smells delicious and can't wait to eat them.. i also invented a new dish using a leftover half-tin of garden peas and a slice of bread.

After 44 years I finally found and spoke to my old prison buddy!

i love each of them dearly.. one such was a man a bit older than me named tollie padget.. .

tollie was the rarest of rare birds.

Terry, I too, communicated with an old JW friend in the past year. I really thought that after nearly 50 years (!) surely some lighbulb had gone on. Her hubby was an educated non-JW and she had 4 children and they enjoyed a privileged lifestyle. She enjoyed material advantages but I thought surely the odds favored some change in her circumstances and therefore enlightenment on her part.

A very nice e-mail from her disabused me of my wishful thinking - she and her hubby and children (save one) and grandchildren are dedicated witlesses. I haven't had the heart to answer her and it has been 6-8 months now.

It makes me kind of sick.
