Did the JW life, cause anxiety?
by JH inoften i heard the elders say, "when a person is physically sick, they should go see a doctor, and in the same way, when you're spiritually sick you should go see the elders".
so, they compare themselves to doctors.... so, for the sake of it, let's say a jw went to see a doctor and complained about anxiety due to jw meetings and their way of life, and being stressed because the watchtower asks too much.. now lets say the doctor would say, the cause of your problems is your religion, stop going and you'll feel better !
so, you go tell the elders that the root of your anxiety is the meetings and field service and all the stress related to the jw religion.

i definately had a lot of stress trying to study for the meetings after work when i was very tired. even on saturday nights i spent way too much time studying the watchtower when i could have been relaxing. it seemed that the WS was on my mind all day until i finaly did it. and then that stressed me out because i could never understand what or how the WTS got the conclusions that they did. i would go over the watchtower article like 3 times before i gave up and just accepted their conclusion. i think that this affected the way i study my school books even now. my thinking is a little odd sometimes and i have all those years of studying to thank for that.

whats the deal with long hair
by aoxo into add to the previous thread regaurding beards i have a similar issue with long hair.
i wanted so long to grow it out but of course couldn't.
there is, however a scripture that baffled me, 1co 11:14 "does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him; but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her?

fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. well it seems that my first big mistake leaving the J-dubs was continuing to be trusting of others. i was trying to sell a fish tank on postaroo.com for $50. someone emailed me and said that they were from niageria and wanted to send me money for the tank. they sent me almost $3000 in cashiers checks which they wanted me to use to pay the shipper and take my owed fee out of. they even offered me an extra $100 for the running around. well it sounded too good to be true and it was. a while later they emailed me back and said that they will take care of the shipping costs and asked me to send the rest of the money minus my fee back via money gram line. the scam is that the cashiers checks will bounce leaving me with the debt of $2500. to push the matter further the guy in nigeria told me that his son was dieing from mouth cancer and wanted all of the money back. this is when i called the bank, fraud hotline and went to the police to file a fraud report. alas, nothing can be done and i am waiting for the back to call me back and report the checks as bounced. i thought this was too good to be true but failed to understand how a check could bounce if the bank had cashed it. it guess you learn the hard way sometimes. well all of you guys know about that. at least i was wise enough to not waste several more years of my life in a cult.

banned bands and songs
by aoxo inanybody have the bethal list of banned musicians and songs.
i remember after my sister got baptised she said that the brother who dunked her under told her not to listen to a song, i think it was "new sensation" or something like that which was a popular song for the 80's period.
i remember a lot of songs being banned because of lyrics that had nothing to do with what they thought it had to do with.

FS experiences that got you doubting
by greendawn indid things happen eg people told you things that got you doubting about the wts while you were on the field service?
.
i recall a girl i had never met before who was crying (after we talked for a while) for being shunned by another local congo, and i thought that it was too cruel to shun people and something was not right with the jws.

this is what started my drifting. i was out in service alone because i was a pioneer low on hours and the only other person who showed up to the service meeting was a sister my age who didn't think i was cool enough to go out in service with. so i went alone and trusted that jehoba would take care of me if anything happened. i went to a door and a guy came out and very confidently asked me a bunch of personal questions about why i was doing this and what i was getting out of this. nobody ever asked me anything personal before, it was always about doctrinal issues. most people looked at me as a religion not an individual like this guy did. he asked me why i even beleved in god and i was so upset with myself for not being able to answer with an honest question. instead i was looking for things to read to him out of the reasoning book. he didn't want a read answer he wanted my answer. so after talking with him for about an hour i left with no dignity at all. i asked several elders to go back with me so that they could reason with him but none were ever available. it bothered me so much that i couldn't honestly answer him that i began to dout my loyalty to god and the j-dubs. a month later i quit pioneering (going on my second year) and studied as much as i could. but nothing could get me to feel anything towards god or the religion that was genuine. i observed people treating me different and even my witness roomates kicked me out of the apartment. it was a very bad time for me, but also exciting. i think i knew that it was the beginning of a new life for me and it scared the crap out of me...

Sisters, did you feel inferior to Brothers?
by JH inhaving less privileges than brothers, did you feel inferior or simply different?.
would you have prefered to be treated equally to brothers, but with all the responsibilities that go with it?.
-
aoxo
im a man but i always felt that it was unfair and stupid to not let the sisters give public talks. it sure would have cut down on the responsibilities of the brothers. i think these anti femenist rules about sisters haveing to wear head coverings and all that crap was put into effect to assign gender roles the way they were in the olden days, the time period when the GB grew up in. i think they are sexist. why are there no women in the GB???

Exorcism...........
by ButtLight ini have always wondered since i was a kid, why, say catholic priests, can do this, if they arent directed by gods holy spirit.
and of course we were tought they were false religions, and that its satans work to mislead us.
do you believe that they can actually cast demons out of someone, or that a person can even become demonized?

in the book "People of the Lie" by scott peck, he mentions that there have only been a handfull of cases that the catholic church has officialy documented as genuine demon possesions. most of cases reported as being possessed are some form of mental illness.
to add to the comment on the amnityville horror, yes it was fabricated, the boy that killed his parents was mentaly ill but the oddities of the whole thing was that nobody had heard the shots fired from the high powered rifle. none of the neighbors or seemingly any of the family members. the family members were all found dead lying in the position that they were sleeping in. this boy killed his parents and then went upstairs to kill his siblings, so there was plenty of time for them to wake up and inspect the noise but they were found shot to death lying on their stomachs undesturbed from the sounds of the rifle shots from downstairs where there parents were shot. the parents were also found lying in such a way to appear that they had not been awoken by the sound of their spouse being shot. eerie, but in no way demonic.
