"fading" is frustratingly limiting.
i can't be entirely free.
i approach each new person with trepidation. afraid that they'll give me up to the witness gestapo.
i want to make and be friends with the lot of you, and yet i can't even share my picture?
you'll say: DA yourself.
but i can't because of my family...
anyway, i suppose i have my answer.

ever get "caught" because someone spotted you on JWD?
by Calliope ini've been thinking of changing my avatar or posting my picture, but due to my fasitidious paranoia, i hesitate with the possibility that some wit out there will venture too close and recognize me.
does anyone know if anyone has ever been "caught" because of displaying their picture here?

Do You Recognize Yourself As A Jehovah's Witness Still?
by minimus ini haven't been to a meeting in 3 years and when i tell people about my past, i tell them i used to be a witness.
-
Calliope
no longer a witness of jehovah.
"the god who wasn't there" (a movie i highly recommend).
but i am fading. which means when i'm out for a smoke with a friend or coworker, and they ask
why i'm crouched down next to the building, hiding my face into the wall, wearing a hat and sunglasses
on a rainy day... i have to tell them "i was a jw, which means...." so as not to leave them with an impression that i am totally insane. sigh.

What world do you live in? (long read)
by rune inthis is just a little babble of mine.
once you are finished i would really appreciate if any of you could take the time to flesh out just what existence and the world is to you.
describe the sensation, the feeling with which you generally take it...everything to do with your perception.

right now, my viewpoint of this world can be somewhat summed up in the word: pulchritudinous.
the word itself, to look at is horrible and further in sound...
but its definition is to describe something characterized by or having overwhelming beauty.
this world is similar. it can be horrible, and yet at times is overwhelmingly characterized by beauty.
it's exhausting and invigorating.
when i was a jw, boundaries and limitations were created for me. i questioned them and couldn't abide by them. i was depressed, i hated life, i did things so jehovah would see my desperation and so in the eventuality of a planned and untimely death, i would be forgiven.
sad.
now? everything is different. the god i so wanted to impress is no longer. i am free. i let my mind go anywhere it wants.
i wrote a song recently,
and one of the verses goes (and i BELT it out...)
"if nothing is true,
than god that means you"
and that's how i feel.
i feel beautiful. i feel intelligent.
i forgive people willingly. i am more open-minded than i've ever been.
i feel i don't have to impress anyone anymore, but i want to touch everyone. i want to know everyone.
in so many ways i've said all i have to say, but then again there's so much left to discover.
i want to live in this world and experience it.
and to me, this is all there is.

Does anyone else feel like their damaged goods?
by MsMcDucket ini feel like this all the time.
i have a husband that loves me, but i still feel like if i ever were on the singles market that i would not be a "good catch".
my health problems and most of all being a former jehovah's witness makes me feel less than perfect.. i'm having a pity party.

Wanted: new parents and siblings
by sass_my_frass ini'm a 32-year-old almost-newlywed female in the market for some new family to replace the, you know... .
i need parents who will make occasional expressions of pride in my achievements, show concern during the bad times, and keep me up to date on all the gossip from home.
in exchange i'll contact you at least once per week, do my best to help you with any problems you may have, make you feel needed, travel with you to places you want to see and financially and emotionally support you as you get older!

i'd like to apply for the part of a sister, but i'm younger, would that be alright?
i could cover for you when mom and dad ask what you're up to. in my younger sister experience, i did a lot of that.
but i can also be a best friend. i'm exceptional at listening and being non-judgemental. offering advice only when asked or when you're being a real a$$. taking you out when you're feeling down. slipping a case of beer in your fridge to surprise you when you get home.
i'm really good at being a best friend. i'd give you references, but i've lost most of my "best" friends...
let me know which you'd prefer, sister? or best-friend? personally, i'd probably be a better best-friend than sister, but i leave the decision up to you.

i was thinking, after nearly a year of not reporting service time and nearly a year of absenteeism from the meetings, i leaving the service overseer a message with my field service time.
"hey bro. so-and-so,
i don't think you called for my service time, so i thought i leave you a message. i got 13 hours in service, but unfortunately no placements as i don't have any publications."
