Those were his Amway years. He took those MLM principles and...well, you know the rest of the story.

Jesus between age 12 and 30. . .
by Mad Sweeney ini'm thinking he traveled east and learned the wisdom of the orient.
no way the watchtower line about him being a carpenter's assistant all that time is possibly true.
he was way too learned about the ways of people to not have been educated and his ideas seem very eastern to me.. anyone got any good books, articles, blogs, websites on the topic?.

Were you 'alive in '75' and how was that year for you?
by punkofnice ini was a junior borgite in 1975. i remeber looking at the calendar at work in october and thinking: 'armageddon isn't here yet.....and it doesn't feel like it will be here anytime soon either!'.
i was surprised that jehovah hadn't obeyed the superior command to bring the big 'a' as instructed to him by fred franz.
how dare god disobey the jw leader!!!!!.

In the summer of '75, I was 17 years old and living a double-life, having just scraped together $375 to buy a ragged out 1966 Dodge Charger, trying desperately to get laid before the proverbial shit and fan meeting scheduled for October of that year (per F. Franz).

They can print anything in the WT because nobody reads the WT. Even when they are looking at and silently mouthing the words in consecutive order, nobody is reading the WT. Even when they underline complete sentences and raise their hands and read those sentences out loud as the answer to the question at the bottom of the page, nobody is reading the WT. This religion is not about reading the WT.

so oompa got df'd this week...
by oompa inno call to invite me to a committee meeting...no notification of deciding i should be df'd....no telling my jw wife of the announcement...not a chance to appeal what i did not even know what was going on...my mini-serve son is devasted....he even researched it....told me to go to page 153-154 of the od book...never heard of it but it is a green hardback given to all who are to be baptized.
wow...the elders broke every rule in this book as to my case.... i have no respect for these men that can take away your jw family without even telling you they are going to.
my jw son has now begged me to meet with my committee...even though there is prob zero chance they can reverse the decision...that chance is from when they let you know...and you have to appeal by letter within 7 days (i cant make this stuff up!!

Good riddance, to them and their bloodthirsty War God!
Seems like jehovah doesn't want us to have blood because he wants it all for himself.

"Have you ever been in love?"
by compound complex inhorrible isn't it?
it makes you so vulnerable.
it opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.

Many, many times. It's a malady of youth, mostly. It's a chemical reaction in the brain. Those chemicals are most active when you are young (part of my "evolution explains everthing" theory, old foks have no need for chemical love).
And god it feels so good! You never feel so alive as the first time you fall in love and/or have your little heart broken.
Whenever I hear "Hello, It's Me," I just have to take a moment. It takes be back to my first high school romance/broken heart. I can feel the residuals of those chemicals.
Great Zevon clip, by the way.

Big Love versus Big Armageddon
by streets76 ini've been enjoying "big love" on hbo for the past few years.
(for those who don't know, it's about the life of a mormon polygamist and his family in utah, usa.).
seems like the mormons, even without officially sanctioning polygamy, can go toe-to-toe with the jws in the wackiness department.. so why does mormonism, as a religious movement, seem more acceptable (than jws) to the mainstream, and thus more successful?.

Our Stories and Why They Matter
by Farkel instories are perhaps the most important thing we can contribute to others in our short life on planet earth.. mind you, i am not saying that stories are the most important things in our lives, because they are not.
the most important things in our lives are experiences, which are moment-by-moment things.
the best we can do with our own experiences is to tell stories about them, which will never convey the actual living of them.

Off topic: The Stories were a one-hit wonder band from the '70s that don't really matter much anymore, but that one hit was pretty good. Carry on.
