Even non JW's have an awkward first time - mine was the front seat of a mini with my legs and butt hanging out the car with the door open ,and just at the best moment a police torch shined up my butt, and a voice from the dark said "what do you think you're doing?"
And the cop had a female off sider ,hell I could die right now! I think I've been waiting to get this off my chest for years

It must be "Global Warming"

this morning i had to scrape the ice off my windshield and back window.. on the way to work i saw many a frozen front lawn and most cars were covered with ice like mine.. all on the outskirts of los angeles.. it must be "global warming".. warlock.

I guess I'll respond, that's what was said back then and it had the weight of the "system" pushing it as a feasible possibility - some very intelligent and well studied people came up with the the theory pushed as credible fact. Well today some very educated people are saying the opposite - just look at the data they may say ,but as we live for very short periods of time ,who can say that the very educated ones are hitting the nail EXACTLY on the head ? Where's the guarantee everything that is published scientifically is dead correct today when it may take long periods of time to evaluate the data properly and see the consequences of doing what we are doing on the planet?
It is very hard for ordinary people to make decisions on global warming based on what strangers say ,and are we expected to just believe the current theories around when money motivates everything on this planet and the people giving their "expert" opinion on both sides have their own agenda . Have we not seen this from politicians,religious leaders etc who are all looking for the support which means money?. This sounds cynical I know but just remember we believed the crap the WTS told us and what do we think now of that "knowlege".
Can anyone guarantee what they say about global warming will still hold up scientifically in 30, 50 ,100 years. Does it really matter what view we have on both sides of the debate personally? Will it make any difference ? No It's too big an issue for any individuals to make a difference really in the short term - sure an awareness of the poisoning of this planet is useful but frankly does anyone think they can beat the political and commercial system geared to use and abuse and do little to replenish and restore.
Please don't think I'm not giving a damn about the environment . The company I worked for allowed me to revegitate and restore company polluted property and I got 2 Goverment awards for this work ,but business only does this as window dressing to hide the larger picture.
This global situation is what plays into the hand of people like the WTS ,they look at the world situation and then hook on their answer to this and gain converts to their line of thinking by putting an extra-terrestial solution which could be viewed as the easy way out.
Politicians sell their solution ,business says there's no real problem and really history gives us the answer - mankind shits in his own nest ,always has and always will and time will give the TRUE outcome. We can sit in our backyards and meditate on whether the weather has changed as we remember it but we only live a little time here so what do we know? And the data is only a 100 years old or so ,can we really pinpoint the future accurately when the world has been here for such a long time and has had many changes not caused by mankind.
What we are left with is evidence that some parts of the world rejuvenate after crisis, but some parts never recover as far as we can see.(deserts etc)
So whose got the all knowing wisdom now to predict exactly the future effects of our activities ,come forward now and let's see if they're exactly right in 30,50 100 years time?
This black and white debating on different issues has gone on thru mankinds history but who calls them to account when it is found later they were wrong. The hippies of the sixtees blamed the establishment for all mans evils back then ,but they grew up and put on shirts and ties and became part of it so they did.nt fix the world (I was one of them)
Without sounding too much like an Awake magazine I think as individuals we don't stand a hope of fixing this world on our own because it's full of people who will always be divided condemning the arguer instead of the argument,only a creator god could change the people first and then the environment, that's my view anyway looking back over the time I've been here.

Well if they do they are keeping quiet about it ,the fall of the Berlin wall must have been an embarrassment for thinking witnesses.(edited note - is that an oxymoron?)
I don't think it will ever be said but what if it is the USA - the WTS would never say that ,would they ,for they may have latent feelings of the USA being "god's own country".perish the thought?
Or maybe in time the governing body will promote more writers to join them ,but with skin a different color than white ,and then new light will reveal who the king of the north is.

Anybody have a three year old??? HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!
by mama1119 ini have a 3 year old girl, and she is wild... she has recently started completley disobeying, talking back, slamming doors, spitting at me etc.
it is getting miserable to go anywhere because she throws fits, runs around resturants screaming.
at dance class, her teacher had to send her off the floor because she was the only kid running around and woud not listen.

Some good advice here but it's always different giving advice to someone else and having to go thru it yourself with your INDIVIDUAL.
Having grandchildren myself and seeing what goes on is really a door to the past and reminds one of how difficult it is to raise children .
Never one to hit much I did though get to appreciate a certain Tupperware soup ladle spoon which became a symbol in the way of a reminder that continous bad behaviour merits a visit from Mr spoon. Hardly ever used it was a mighty persuader with just a little flick - other objects used like the hand can be dangerous especially if weilded with anger, but a little stingingflick does the trick.
Some children like my daughter needed concerted effort to assert whose in control and she spent many times in her room with no toys to think about her behaviour. She was and is at 28 still a handful (thank god for patient sons-in-law) ah but when they have their own children that is when they have to face their past - ah sweet justice.
My daughter in law is amazed at how I can handle her childrens behaviour , but all it is is practice and a realisation that they will grow up and it sure is great when they do and thank you later for all you've done for them!

Older Man??
by avidbiblereader inthe scriptures uses the term "older man" as a position of authority in the congregation to help and shepherd the flock.
in the jw they will typically use a man of the age of 30 and use as a reference jesus getting baptized and the beginning of his work on earth.. how many here feel the "older man" should in deed be an older man because of the seriousness of the responsibility, because of experience and did any of you feel as an elder or because of an younger elder you were not treated properly because of youth and a lack of experience or they lacked the example of an older man?.

I pretty much agree with AULD Soul. Being an older man to my line of thinking is to be a balanced and experienced person and that most often comes with maturity and years as well. I think the emphasis though should be not on authority but more on experience and love motivating a helpful desire. Some young men I've met are like this and some older men in years have been less mature.
As regards the congregation I think the failure to appoint mature and loving people has always been the failure of the elders and in turn the WTS ,and this is because of cronyism etc and the lack of the holy spirit.
