I also remember Brother W. in his early 30's. He was schizophrenic and still living home with his elderly mother. One time he went off his meds and stabbed his mom, minor wounds. They disfellowshipped him! He was mentally ill and off his medication, that was the reason for what he did, but his behavior was treated as a sin instead of chronic mental illness. He got back on his regimen, became meek and mild again, but still had to be treated as a disfellowshipped one. I don't think he ever really comphrehended what was going on with people ignoring him.

There was a poor man with a wife and two kids at our Hall. He struggled to make ends meet at a low paying job, and to keep up with the burdens placed upon him as a ministerial servant. He eventually had a nervous breakdown and was laughed at by the elders. One went so far as to say, "Ha-ha, I guess life is just too big for E. to handle!" They acted like he must just be spiritually weak, as not much credence was given to mental illness back then. The elder who said this was my father, and this was one of the few times I can recall thinking poorly of him in my growing up years.

CO Visit Nightmares
by Tish inso i grew up as a jw and my family had no elders etc so we were not the type to have the honour of co visiting for lunch etc.. so when the opportunity arrived 5 yrs ago i tried to do it all properly.
my husband had to go into work at the last minute leaving me with a baby with chicken pox and a son off from school with a twisted ankle, my daughter was high on astma meds which mean't she was throwing roast potatos across the table at the co's wife whilst i did my best be the hostess with the mostest.. sadly my hubbie at the time did not get made a mini as the elders had hoped until i could control the children!!.
has anyone else had any funny things happen to them whilst entertaining cos?

Haha, Tish, you Brits might snicker at this one... we had a British CO named Bennett who came to take tea at my Aunt's home. You know how us Yanks have not the slightest clue how to make tea properly, or so Bennett informed Auntie. So, he sipped his tea and after awhile, he asked for another cup. Auntie dear boils another cup of hot water and...(gasp) pours it over the same old used tea bag! He huffily informed her, that a proper cup is brewed with a brand new tea bag each time, to which Aunt replied that seemed wasteful, as there was still plenty of flavor left for another cup! She insisted on using each teabag twice, and he quit visiting her house for tea after that!

What makes a Special Talk "Special?"
by Virgochik inwhen i was growing up, they'd announce the date and title of a special talk.there was lots of buzzing and excitement, and everybody was encouraged to invite irregular ones and relatives to attend.
poor grandpa and aunt m. always got begged to dress up and come out to hear this vitally important message.why?
because it wasn't just a talk, it was a special talk!

What Things Irritated You While A Witness?
by minimus ini used to hate it when i'd listen to brother blow give his long winded comment about how we're all supposed to do this or that----and he was barely considered a witness......we had a few elders, and especially the po who would go overtime just because they could.
the po's bookstudy always went overtime.
45 minutes into the meeting he was still on paragraph 3. and he would read every scripture including the ones quoted!!!

Those who felt a need to have their exceptional singing voice recognized by all... Sister M.M. was also the wearer of a hearing aid, and belted out the whole song in alto. Sometimes the song had finished before her screeching did, hehehe!

So how much cash did the WTBS actually pocket, after the sale of 360 Furman? Will they pay taxes on this amount, or still feign being a non-profit organization?

Poor Grandpa and Aunt M. always got begged to dress up and come out to hear this vitally important message. Why? Because it wasn't just a talk, it was a SPECIAL talk! Sometimes, I even got to pick out new shoes for the occasion,.The Hall was full of people who hardly ever came to meetings, but would be pressured to make it to the Special Talk. So, what made it "special?" Was it a drive to revitalize the spiritually weak, or tell the public Armageddon was really, really close? Was it a thinly disgiused membership or fundraising effort? And what is the meaning of it today? The point of it all escaped me, growing up but now I am curious.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 3-5-06 WT Study (Patience)
by blondie inhis faithful servants--only jws, not "so-called" christians.
7 a second point that we can draw from peter's words is that jehovah is patient because he desires all to attain to repentance.
"consider the patience of our lord as salvation," wrote peter to fellow christians.
