It was so much fun being the conductor's family. I cured my dad once by saying sullenly, "What was the question? Oh. Well, I'm sure I don't know." He used to run around looking for Mom and me to whip up a cute little talk, too, when he had the school and discovered a no-show. I felt for him, in a way, it was stressful trying to get people to participate, but unfair to the family members, too, expecting them to pick up the pieces for him.

Voluntary answering at meetings
by ThomasCovenant inwatchtower august 1st 1953 page 458.
'hence starting with the congregational study of this issue of the magazine, the conductor may call on persons whether they volunteer or not'.
i never saw this happen at my meeting.

What will happen when all those older witnesses fall sick and eventually di
by JH inwhat will happen when all those older witnesses fall sick and eventually die?
i know so many in the congregation in their mid 70's and older.
many of these older ones are pillars in the congregation.. i was just wondering what effect it will have 5 to 10 years from now, when all these older ones will be too sick to attend meetings or dead.

When those elderly, die-hard ones are gone, they will be left with a younger generation that's just not as devoted with their time and money, more materialistic, more prone to send their kids to college, and who can't live without the internet. These people may attend meetings, but not make all of them, go out in service, but only occasionally, donate, but not generously... in other words, a new group of watered down Witlesses emerges. They won't be as gung-ho as the old ones were.
I predict more down-sizing ahead!

Were you like me, or was I different?
by JH in.
i remember going to meetings at the hall, and when the meeting was over, i wanted to leave right away, and not see a jw t'il the next meeting.. i thought of this thread because i see so many witnesses having lunch together after meetings and many seem to always want to be together even when the meetings are over.. i never did like this closed circle of jw's.

I wanted to bolt out the door, but Dad often had a meeting in the back room. I had to stand around and chat with people I didn't want to talk to, like some wierd, freaky cocktail party without drinks! When I got older, and was close to moving out, I'd just go out and wait in the car. I didn't care anymore what people thought.

cemetaries
by moomanchu inkingdom halls don't have cemetaries like other churches do .
is this another mind game to make the believers think they will never die?
are the witnesses to cheap to have a cemetary, grass cutting maintenance and such?.
-
Virgochik
They don't place much importance on where the body is buried. After all, the soul has been recorded in Jehoopla's memory for resurrection., and that's what counts. A public cemetary is good enough for the physical remains to decompose in. They don't usually get into placing flowers at the grave, either, because the loved one will not have any awareness of anything. These are the most neglected graves you'll see.

Were YOU Depressed When You Were A Witness?
by minimus ini've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.
i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.
personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?

Badges for Conventions
by ThomasCovenant ineach year name badges are handed out at the kingdom halls for those attending the upcoming district convention.
i have always refused to wear one but this was not a major issue as i would say only about 50% wore them anyway.
however i noticed that as the years went by more and more 'brothers' were wearing them including during the lunch break in the city centre concerned.

Dams is right, from a sista's point of view! I was a rather buxom teen, and I noticed some of the fine, wholesome Christian brothers staring at my
ta-ta'sbadge. It made me feel self conscious and embarassed. After the first day, I misplacedstomped on and threw awaythe darn thing, darn it. My Dad used to badge-er me about it, and I'd say I forgot it in the room. -

What "Discipline" Did You Recieve While A Witness?
by minimus inwere you "disciplined" by the elders (or jehovah god) for anything while in the "truth"??

I was quiet and stayed off the radar because my Dad was an elder, but I did get in some trouble once. I sprinkled tacks in the chair where the Sunday speaker sits and waits to be introduced before his talk. He hopped up pretty fast when he sat on them, and Dad knew it was me.My punishment was to sit in the back and not speak to any of my friends before or after the meetings for a month, to see what it felt like to be disfellowshipped, tho I wasn't. Well, guess what? Now they don't have to worry about where I sit, because I DON"T sit in their silly Halls anymore, in the back, or anyplace else, haha!

"... a challenge for Christians to live according to Godly standards today..."
I think they should say, it's a challenge living up to Watchtower standards! Godly standards are simple and straight forward. It's the Watchtower hurdles you can never get past, and all the rules, rules, rules one can never keep up with!
