All white girls are.........

my daughter has been 'going out' with a black gentleman for the last year.

they are very much in love by the looks of things and have long term plans.. however, opposition has recently come from somewhere i did not expect.

it turns out that he has been very upset with his mother since she made several unpleasant remarks to him.

Personally, as a white woman of Scotch and Scandinavian descent, i think black men are the most handsome men... if I hadn't fallen in love with my white, German/Blackfoot Indian husband, I would be dating black guys with those beautiful long lashes...

There were two couples at our Hall when I was a teen, who succumbed to the racist pressures and tearfully parted ways. Both were black sisters and white brothers, both ministerial servants. Family disapproval led them to marry white sisters, breaking up with the gorgeous black sisters they were in love with. What a shame! Their children would've been beautiful.

Furman Building E-mail

so my step-father sent me an e-mail that was circulating amongst the dubs with an article about the conversion of the furman building into condos.

he sent it to me with something like, "look what they're doing to the furman building".

the article said that wts sold the building in 2004(?

My experience is similar to yours, but I wasn't quite as explicit about my views. My Dad caught me alone one time (the kind of moments we all try to avoid) and broached the subject of my coming back to meetings. All I said was, "I just can't live like that. I think I'm a good person, and live my life the best I can and God will have to decide...but I just can't live with all the meetings and rules." He quietly said, "OK." That was it.

Shortly after, I moved out of state. I truly believe my parents let their friends think I still go to meetings, and they tell themselves that I'm still a good person and trust Jehovah will spare me thru Armageddon. They come out for visits, and stay in our house, and nothing is too different, except we don't talk about religion.

I think my moving away took the pressure off them to make any decisions about me, and maybe pressure from the Hall to shun me. I've always been surprised and so glad I haven't lost them, as I'm an only child and they are getting old. Maybe they hope this course will someday bring me back, by not cutting off ties. Who knows?

What Lill said makes an awful lot of sense. If they mess too much with the blood issue, they'll upset the elderly ones. But, as she pointed out, they seem to be laying the framework for "new understanding provided by Jehoopla."

I think they may ease it in gently, and when our parents die off, there won't be many left, between deaths of the elderly ones, who are really their backbone now, and others getting disgusted and leaving.

I rarely see a cargroup in my neighborhood now, but until somebody mentions it on the board, I really don't notice. I doubt anyone will even miss them when they dwindle away to nothing, unless something reminds the public..."Oh yeah, whatever happened to those pains in the *ass who used to bang on the door at supper time? Haven't seen them in years!"

often i hear jws claim that people leave the borg because they cannot follow the rules, implying that anyone who leaves lacks character, self control, and/or moral values.. often i hear jwd posters--me included--say the myriad of rules in the borg is one of (not the only) reason they would not follow the org.

Yes, the rules themselves are hard to follow, but an added complication is, you don't always know what the rules ARE, till you get the dirty look or the disapproving frown and head shake. This is typically for wearing something inappropriate, in somebody's personal opinion. And how would you know that, in advance?

I think "Jehovah" or whatever God's real name is, gets blamed for all the Witnesses crapola, when they claim their rules come from him. I'm sure a lot of this is news to him!

When I pray, I pray to Jesus, who it's easy for me to feel close to. I perceive "Jehovah" as an entity of endless rules, punishment and difficult to please. Surely God isn't like that, but loving and forgiving? I get confused about how "Jehovah" and this disciplinarian personna could be the real God, who loves us so much. The name just makes me uncomfortable and brings back bad memories.

Society goes nuts--yet another "special" campaign for September!

in an earlier post here http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/114651/1.ashx i noted the society's "special campaign" for september, an "awake" magazine dedicated to the topic of evolution vs. creation.

there is a "special campaign" to highlight that magazine all month.. got a call from our po last night.

there is going to be yet another "special campaign" in september -- a new "kingdom news" tract.

Juni, I remember the Special Cam-PAIN about this maybe being our final march around the walls, like the Israelites blowing their trumpets at Jericho. Everyone at the Service Meeting gasped when they said, "Brothers...who knows what this may signify! Could this be our final blowing of the trumpets?" or similar blablabla. It had to be in the late 70's, because I was still in high school. I rolled my eyes, but it did kind of send a chill through me. It was one of those moments when you wonder if they're right, this time!

Guess they weren't!

whose idea was it anywhere and is there any mention of it in any awake or bodgetower?.

the idea, that women when taking the lead in anyway or praying should have something on their head as a sign of respect suddenly struck me as a sign of total disrespect!.

i understand a woman may put anything on her head as a sign of respect to her superior male colleagues, including a used kleenex....i've seen it so don't doubt it!!.

My Mom always carried a linen handkerchief in her purse. It was neatly folded and had small embroidered flowers on one corner.

Mary, do the women have to remain seated so the post-it note doesn't sail off their hair? Haha.

as an elder, i always seemed to be at a meeting.

When I was in school, I missed alot of meetings because I had "Caught that bug that's been going around." When mom stayed home with me, I don't think she minded missing either. And sometimes I really was sick with a virus, from being out late and tired and run down. Those meetings on school nights were brutal on a kid!
