Handing out candy
by mikeypants ingrowing up my parents would barricade our home off by parking vehicles bumper to bumper - you would have to crawl under the cars or over the bumpers to get to our door.
also, we would turn off all the lights and hide in the back room away from the street.. that was the norm for me.
isnt that insane?

We always hid in the back of the house, in the kitchen. If it was necessary to go anywhere near the front windows, we tip toed and carried flashlights. Could anything be more silly? Of course the curtains were tightly closed too. My mom texted me this morning that she was thankful it rained hard last night where she lives and tricker treaters didn't bother her. Well, fine, but I put on my hippy chick costume and handed out candy! The kids were polite and the parents said thanks. It's extra fun because we couldn't do it growing up. Where's the harm? -

Special Pioneer Couple Living at a Kingdom Hall In Miami FL, get the dreaded Letter
by James Jack injust got a phone call from an older sister saying that a couple that got re-assigned from bethel 4 years ago to live at their kh apartment as special pioneers, just received a letter saying "as of january 2016, your special pioneer assignment will be discontinued".. they live in a south miami kh(snapper creek congregation).. this couple had only served in bethel for 15 years before they were sent out into the special pioneer work.
they are now in their mid 50's and the sister said that they have to find part time jobs to support themselves.. the older sister (does not have a pc or internet), says that the couple are just devastated!

Back in the 80's, my relative, R and his close friend T, left Bethel. I don't know if they left voluntarily, but they both left together. Hmmm. Even now, R is working a low wage job as a school bus driver, and he's nearing seventy years of age, just trying to catch up to where he can afford to retire. I can't imagine how difficult it'll be for the ones being booted out now. There's no end in sight for stopping work, once they find a scrappy job. They may never afford to retire. How depressing! -

I started to snicker, but that is truly sad. At least some of these people have to be disgruntled and running their mouth in the congregation, hehe. -

Looks like fun. Different slip, same sh*t, as in no shows and throwing together an impromptu part, especially if you're part of an elder's family. -

They fall over themselves sucking up to the CO. Nobody wants to be the one to admit they haven't bothered to check on you for over four months, so they're scrambling. They could get raked over the coals pretty good. Now onto important business: who will jockey for position and impress the CO first with dining at an expensive restaurant? Sad but true. I grew up hearing it all. -

That was disgusting. His tone and facial expressions raised red flags for me. I'd never trust that man per my female intuition. -

What a strange man. It's the Gibbering Buddies who are drawing people away to follow themselves. -

Grandparents take disfellowshipped daughter to court to insist on right to preach to four year old
by usualusername1 inhttp://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/jehovah-s-witness-grandparents-ordered-to-keep-faith-to-themselves-1.3282193 .
a pair of devout jehovah's witnesses have been ordered by a b.c.
provincial court judge not to talk about religion in front of their four-year-old granddaughter.. the couple lost their bid for unsupervised access to the girl because they insisted on taking her to worship at their faith's kingdom hall despite the repeated objections of the child's mother.. the girl is identified only as a.w.

Everything Flipper said was brilliant. JW's are all about being pushy, talking over any objections, not respecting other people's views and not listening to a word you say. That's why I keep getting the perpetual Watchtowers in the mail, the new bigger better Bible, the Return to Jehovah flimsy flyer, etc. I don't think this women had any choice, if she wanted to be respected as a parent. They just don't listen till they're forced to. -

Goodwill stores: A gathering place for Jehovahs Witnesses.
by Joliette ini recently started working at a goodwill here in wisconsin, and i've never encountered more witnesses ever in my life.
every time i go to work, i see at least two or three people that i used to go to the kingdom hall with getting suits, dresses, etc.
some of them say hi, but some of them i just ignore, or they ignore me.

A "lovely day" according to my mom is going in the ministry, getting lunch, and hitting the Goodwill store. She's proud of living simple and frugal. I get a kick out of the like new stuff I find there once in awhile, but to the Witnesses, it's a major fun hobby. They have so few things they're allowed to do, so going Goodwill shopping together becomes a treat.
