Attending the Funeral / Memorialof Your JW Parent

i'm just wondering if any df'd or da'd here have gone to the kingdom hall to attend a memorial or funeral service for a jw parent or on the other hand decided not to attened.

do you regret going / not going?

My parents treat me well and have never shunned me, but they are now in their seventies. They recently informed me that they have signed a medical power of attorney to Elder Darkcoldeyes so he could handle any blood issues they could have. I live out of state. I guess I'd be lucky if Elder Darkcoldeyes phoned me in the event my parents passed early enough for me to get a flight and attend the Informercial. I assume he will be giving the talk too.

My parents are loving to me like I never faded, but I have no delusions Elder Darkcoldeyes and his family would be kind to me at the service. I agonize over what I'll do when the call comes.

Are Public Talks Really Public?

ever wonder why public talks are not really public.

If the public was really welcome at the talks, the local Kinkdumb Hells would advertise the upcoming topics and times, like our local churches do in the Saturday newspaper's religion page.

One can look over each denomination and their features for Sunday and make plans to attend. With the Dubs, the "public" talk is really for the private ears of their own congregation members.

The Great Wine Race

well i am off to memorial with my wife in a few hours (don't ask) it has bored me to tears for the last 25 years or so but it is the one concession i make for my wife.

i have always thought of it as 45 minutes of hell (yes only 45) and find myself looking at my watch often and jingling my car keys a lot.....this year will be different and add interest to this occasion....it is...the great wine race.. my wife's congo is split in two for this festive occasion with a centre isle.

the wine passers are poised at the end of the isles to receive the rejected wine and pass it on to the next row of rejectors.often one side will win with only moments to spare over the other side.

Keeping an eye on everyone else to make sure they are following all the rules! Making sure they run and ~~tattle~~ report right away if they see anything!

I remember that silliness! Our congo used some Ministerial Servants one year and they were snickering and trying to race each other to get a row ahead of the other guy. If anyone, like a study, paused to ask their ~~qualified Christian Minister~~ study conductor what to do, they would glare at them for slowing their rows down!

It was very disrespectful of Jesus and the whole occasion turned into a little game.

i am going back to work tomorrow.

i had seven wonderfrul, heavenly weeks off from work following my surgery.

i truly enjoyed reading the posts every day during my house bound weeks.

I am going back to work tomorrow. I had seven wonderfrul, heavenly weeks off from work following my surgery. I truly enjoyed reading the posts every day during my house bound weeks. I learned so much, was made to think, and many times, had a good laugh. You guys made the days fly by, and I thank you! I have been blessed with a move to an office that's within walking distance of our house too, what more could I ask?

Unless...never having to work ever again?

Will still enjoy catching up on the board in the evenings, sigh.

Whacky Witness Weirdness

ok, i'm sure all of us have met some incredibly bizarre jws over the years --- i have met some that could have been characters in a movie...just unbelievably weird.

i've shared some of my stories with a good friend (non jw) and she swears i'm making this stuff up.

how in the heck could i make these people up??

Hey, Kathrine, thanks for jumping in and welcome to the board!

I think some of these wierd older men stayed under the radar because our parents were just programmed to ass-ume that everyone attending meetings was "OK." There was just an automatic trust given to people at the Hall. I hope that is changing.

But, back to the topic, how strange was it, too, for three elderly siblings in their late seventies, to be all living in an old mobile home together? The JW's just attract the oddest people... and they are not always harmless!

If there was a "Union" in each congregation............

if there was a "union" in each congregation to protect the witnesses from the watchtower ,that would be nice.. you could negotiate certain things, like number of meetings a week, and hours in the field service.. .

what would you like to see negotiated?

unionized brothers "local 21" .

When I was between 10 and 13 or so, there was an elderly brother who had never been married all his life. He was in his late 70's and shared a trailer with his widowed sister and younger brother. They all rode to the Hall together. He would sneak over to our car in the parking lot and leave bags of candy in the backseat for me. This happened every week for a long time. When we got in the car to go home, we would discover it. My parents thought it was cute, as in, " Oh, look! Walter's left you some more candy in the backseat, Virgochik! You make sure you tell him thank you!" Sometimes, this old man would put the bag of candy on my chair in the Hall and I'd find it when I went to sit down. Mom made me turn around and mouth "thank you" to Walter, who was several rows behind us, with a strange smile on his face.

Was that wierd, or what? I finally got beyond pissed when I became a teen and refused to play along. It creeps me out, now that I'm grown and learning of all the pedophiles in the Halls.

Do you all think it was anything like that on his mind? Mom and Dad thought he was just a kindly, lonely old man, but even they grew uncomfortable with it finally...
