Oh the horror! People getting together to discuss the Bible. Seems like Jesus would have approved of that.

Keep telling yourself that!
by Lost in the fog inin the latest copy of the elders textbook someone kindly made available to us on this website, i see that "independently organized meetings for spiritual feeding" are still not allowed.
no wonder because independent research would let the scales fall from the eyes.. the gb still insisting that they are guided by the (always lower case) holy spirit and the bible!!
not that the rank and file members need the bible or holy spirit themselves because they are fed through meetings, conventions, assemblies, jw broadcasting and the publications.

This is disgusting. At my church, we don't say no funds will go towards food for those needing it. No, we have a Benevolence fund for our members needing help and we collect food and money for rent assistance and for food banks. That's what Christians do. And then there's Watchtower. I don't know what you'd call them!

How do you personally deal with your still in family JWS ?
by Finkelstein infor myself i just try to avoid them intentionally maybe see them once every couple of years on average.
they used to be easy going but over the last 10 years or so they got more cult like and distant and i'm really not bothered by that, maybe a bit.
they stick to their own or other members like they are their family so, its makes it unattractive for myself to connect and reach out to them anymore.

I'm not sure there's too much worse a feeling than knowing your own mother doesn't want to see you.I reach out to her every day asking how she's doing because she's eighty five, and she makes sure to tell me "The Friends" are taking good care of her. She was hospitalized and didn't even tell me. None of "The Friends" did either. Recently, she was in the hospital again, and didn't bother to tell me she was back home. While I worried, she was having "The Friends" in and out and didn't give me a thought. I'm her only child.
My crime? I don't agree with JW teachings. Never arrested or had legal problems, always had a good job, nice home, responsible, courteous, tax paying, give to charity. But I'm saved and born again as a follower of Jesus so she doesn't need me around. I feel like I keep kissing her butt wanting a relationship with my mother. I sent her a letter asking to clear the air so we could be a real mother and daughter. She ignored the letter.
Honestly, I don't have a handle on how to deal with these people. Reaching out like normal people do doesn't work. They don't seem interested in meeting you half way.
Does anyone know if they're on the warpath again about shunning their family?

Funny occurrences
by Freedom rocks inwhat were some funny experiences you had of things that happened during talks at the meetings?.
a few of mine:.
- a brother had dyed his hair before his talk and it was raining heavily when he arrived at the hall and the dye was running down his face during his talk and his skin went more and more grey as the black dye ran down it.

I was besties with another elder's daughter. She was pre-teen and hadn't yet become tall and willowy. In other words, she was chubby. At home they called her Shelly-Belly. So she puts up her hand to comment and her father said, " Yes, let's hear from Little Sister Shelly-Belly! Oops.
We had a guest speaker one Sunday. I was sooo bored and had time on my hands. I sneaked up on the stage and placed several sharp thumb tacks on the guest speaker's chair. When he sat down, he yelped and jumped back up. My dad knew immediately it was me. I had to sit in the back and pretend to be disfellowshipped for about a month.
We had a few sisters trip and fall on the little steps going up on stage. Very funny though, when the high heel flies off and she's hopping on one shoe and one stocking foot trying to grab it.

What immodest clothing have you got in trouble for wearing?
by Addison0998 ini personally have a very distinct sense of style and fashion which many of the fellow jdubs frown upon.
recently, i was told by a few specially self righteous ones that i looked like a prostitute in a pair of white boots!
a pair of 3 inch heeled, just a little taller than the ankle boots, with skirt that came down to my knees and a black long sleeve shirt that came up to my collarbone.

I got in trouble because my knees were on show when I sat down at a cult meeting. I was told to put my coat over my legs.
When I was a teen and my father was a shining rising elder, before I could get in the car to go to meetings, he made me slowly turn all the way around so he could inspect my panty hose for runs. That made me a nervous wreck, because there was seldom money to buy me new ones. He always "needed" a new suit or new black leather shoes because he had a talk out of town.
Finding winter coats was always a project. The ones I liked weren't always "suitable" for field service. I had to get stuck with something long and ugly. Shoes had to be pre-approved my dad, then he would "give" my mom money and permission to buy them for me.
Good times growing up.

So, what ever became of the people who quit their jobs or sold their homes? I'd love to see some of their experiences and to know how things turned out. What are their lives like? What were their emotions, say in July 1976?

Here is a tale of two classmates, graduating high school in 1977. One girl followed her interests and went to law school.
Girl #2, me, was told she could not go to law school, even though my worldly grandfather offered to pay for my college and I really, really wanted to go.
So now, in 2018, girl #1 got her juris doctor years ago and is nearing retirement from her law practice. She's got a nice life and a nice family, law abiding daughters in college now. What in the world is wrong with that?
I was lucky to have a good career making a similar amount of salary as girl #1, my classmate. The difference is, she got to fulfill her dreams, doing what she loved, while I just had a career that paid the bills but didn't intrigue me or use the brain God gave me to help others. Why? Because of that vile magazine and the vicious spiteful men who sold it to our parents as what was best for us. No apologies have been made by the magazine writers, or by my parents, who won't even talk about it.
Robbing a child of their interests, a chance use their talents, and snuffing out that sparkle in their eyes is a terrible thing. Who knows what we could've done, or what we could've been if encouraged and supported like normal parents do?
No, I'm turning sixty next month, and I am far from over this.

Were you or someone you know sexually molested by a Jehovah's Witness ?
by flipper indue to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?
remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.
what about the thousands that don't get caught?

In my congregation, a married ministerial servant was sleeping with a fifteen year old sister. They both got reproved, and no police report was made. In fact, it was pretty much no big deal to the elders. I know because my dad was an elder and he blabbed about committee cases quite a bit. I didn't overhear much about this one.
Out of curiosity, I did a people search on this couple, the MS and his wife who he cheated on with the teen girl. They're now in their seventies. They're still married.
