Da Preeching Werk. Need help

an irritating debate i have with my dad is about the dubs and their preaching work.

he feels they are the only group actively spreading the bibles message and this is another proof of their being the true religion.

i have pointed out that other religions actively preach and pointed out flaws in the witness method of preaching blah blah blah.

He will not see the profound irony in this. Apparently Jesus has a very poor memory.

In seriousness, a possible explanation for the contradiction, within Christian theology, is that in chapter 9, the man was working in Jesus' name, just not associated with the band of disciples. While in chapter 11, he was referring to being on HIS side, i.e., believing on him. Of course, this explanation would make JWs uncomfortable, since it could be taken to mean that Jesus is unconcerned with what brand of Christian you are, so long as you believe on him. Seems a nice logical explanation to me, but hey, what does a Pagan know about Christian theology.

Governing Body arrogance vs. Legal Department's pragmatism - do you think there will be a slip-up at some point?

the recent & surprising developments in the uk and australia got me thinking..... the governing body of jehovah's witnesses is nothing if not arrogant.

they consider themselves "god's channel of communication", stopping just short of claiming divine inspiration.

they believe that they and they alone are the masters of "christ's belongings" and are answerable only to him.. the watchtower society's legal department carefully crafts gb decisions so as not to put the watchtower society's assets or prestige as risk.

Indeed. At 30, I expect one of two things will happen in my lifetime:

A. The JWs were right, the big A comes, and I go down spitting in Jar-Hoover's face.

or

B. The WTB$ completely collapses.

As more and more people gain access to the real facts about the WTB$, as the flow of information becomes ever freeer - especially in the 1st world, where most of their financial support comes from - I don't see how WTB$ can last another 70 years (figure assumes I will live to 100 - I hope, I hope). Plus, they have created their own death spiral by discouraging higher education. As their support base becomes smaller, dumber, and poorer, they will eventually collapse under their own weight. You can't sustain a multi-billion dollar publishing house on the backs of people who live in abject poverty, especially when you have basically forbidden them from improving their lot in life. But of course, if they allowed higher education, more JWs would find out they are being taken. They've created their own little Catch-22.

Mine is the name of a character I made in a MUD back in the 1990s. The character was a rogue/thief so Shador was intended to invoke the idea of shadows and such. I use it (or some varient if it is already taken) at a number of places.

we had an elder that was hung up on mens haircuts he had a real thing about how short mens hair should be and even told one bro off for parting his hair down the middle.. even told one bro to shave off his sideburns.. a c.o who was paronoid about sound always telling the bro in charge off.. .

a d.o who orded the attendants to remove crying babys from assemblys on more than a few occations...hans hubler for those that know him..

When I first was an elder in the '90s there was a nearby congregation (Woodley Park, CA) that wouldn't let visiting speakers give a talk unless they had on a white shirt.
If the speaker didn't have on a white shirt and/or "didn't know" it was OK because they kept a supply of freshly laundered white dress shirts in various sizes on-hand for just such an emergency!
I found out about this AFTER I gave a talk in that hall. I guess I must've had on a white shirt because no one said anything. When I found out I wished I had on a blue shirt, or a striped shirt or anything other than white.

I heard about something like this too, though I don't remember where. Supposedly it was corrected (I doubt permanantly) when a CO with a little sense left showed up. He wore non-white shirts for his talks. You bet your ass no one gave him a white shirt or said a damn thing. Maybe that last bit happend, maybe not. Gotta love those JW urban legends.

Anwar Al-Awlaki and due process any thoughts?

recently anwar al-awlaki was killed by the u.s. government.

he was a u.s. citizen, and no due process was given, he was just killed outright, no arrest, no trial, no court.. any thoughts?.

Never heard of it per se, but if the end had come in 1975, like they predicted, then Jesus' "1000 year reign" would have ended in ... (pauses to think a moment)... ummm 2975? I think the author of the book just misspoke, maybe?

it will involve 2 special meetings on oct 22 and oct 29. the meetings will be a. watchtower summary.. a member of the us branch committee will give a report on "progress in the field.".

talk by a visiting zone overseer.

and a talk by the gb.. it will be "approx 2 1/2 hours in length.

I could one up that. As a current pious-sneer, I just got my ticket today. The back says that audio and video recording are permitted "for personal use only" (LOL!). This could be especially good if they do the FM radio thing for the hearing impaired (hey there will probably be lots of older elders there).

So, who wants a 2.5 hour sound file?

However, I must state, lest any get the wrong idea, that the reason for the disclaimers was precisely because I do not identify as a Satanist. I found those particular rules to be in accord with Nature. But there are other aspects of the dark path that I disagree with.
