One of the people around here got publically reproved and almost lost his position because they caught him again.

"Help! my dad is watching Pornography" Cries of a JW teen.
by Dune inas some of you may know, i'm still an active witness and i'm still in the planning stages of my "escape".
i met a sister at a district convention a year ago and i've been talking to her on aim for a while.
i think she is very amusing considering that she is very intelligent and often voices her views on the doctrinal falicies of the wtbs, but when its my turn to give my two cents she makes it seem as if i'm the only poztate.

Flu "Epidemic" at School
by Scully inone of my kids was sent home from school last thursday with symptoms of headache, fever, chills, aching joints.
the next day, still not feeling well, she asks to go to the doctor, so i know this is not your typical kid-wanting-to-get-out-of-school thing.. i get a call from the school principal, and it turns out that out of about 400 students, almost 25% of the kids have come down with the same symptoms.
the public health department is notified.

Wow... There are 45 out at my mom's school in wisconsin... they said if there were 15 more out, they would've had to shut down to school for the week. I wonder where its coming from and what is happening.

Are a lot of your relatives starting to exit the Witnesses?
by free2beme inbasically in my life i have a handful of relatives that are still in.
my mother and sister, my in-laws and my sister-in-law.
over the last ten years of our exit, they have actually been pretty supportive of our decision.

I agree with you for some families... although my family isn't like that. Although I think my mom is going through the same thing, her mom died 10 years ago and right after she died my mom got baptized and started saying how she'll see my grandma when the resurrection occurs. I think that's the only reason why she's holding on because my grandma was everything to my mom. I didn't even think of that until you said it, thanks! :)

Why does religion fail?
by cosmic ini'm not used to starting threads, but i ran across a web site the other day that set my mind churning.
the site was called "the atheists manifesto", and i think i heard about it from someone on this board.
but, anyway, it mentioned a couple of things that seemed compelling:.

I believe that because religion is started from people that are imperfect, that inside religion there will always be imperfections and rather than 100% facts, there will be spots in every religion where it is opinion and not factual. I think that's why religion doesn't succeed.

If Witnesses had new light not to shun anymore....
by JH inif the witnesses received orders not to shun df'd ones anymore, would you want to talk to them, or would you shun them in return, just like they shunned you, just to show them how it felt like.

I think I would start out shunning, for a little bit, a couple of months and then I would ask them how it felt. But I dont think I would be able to keep it up forever because I'm too forgiving and I would want to spend time with my family and old friends.

Thank you all soo much for your comments. I think after reading this and after getting a review from my boss at work today, I have a lot of growing and learning about myself that I need to do. I am going to be honest, I miss talking to him, but I know that I have all of you here if I need people and I have friends from school. I will try and let it go and hope that he had a safe trip and that he's ok. Thanks again everyone!

Oscars - did your favorite win?
by pratt1 ini agreed with all of the winners at last night's oscar's except for the best actor award.. i would have given it to joquin phoenix.
i thought his performance as johnny cash was great.. i also thought that jon stewart did a great job.
i particularily liked the opening skits.

I want a refund . . .
by cruzanheart inafter reading all those threads and articles about how much money the wtbts has squirreled away and invested and after volunteering to serve birthday cupcakes and punch at a homeless shelter run by the combined efforts of first presbyterian church and first methodist in downtown dallas, i have decided that i want my money back.. i want back every single cent that i ever contributed to that jabba the hut of an organization that just sits on its money and never uses a penny of it to benefit its members or the rest of humanity.
i want back the $10,000 that my dad "loaned" the society in the 1970's that they -- 10 years later -- strongly suggested he just give to them to save them the trouble of writing a check.. i want to be paid for the 13 years of regular pioneer service that i wasted on that organization.
let's see, at roughly 100 hours a month (that's what the requirement was back then), 1200 hours a year times 13 + 15,600. hmmm, okay, i'll take minimum wage for it -- isn't that $6.50 an hour now?

I'm sure they'll get your check in the mail :) And to think I would tell my mom to give my allowance to them because they needed it more than I did.... geez....
