Recent fav president poll; and who was yours?

a recent poll showed that abraham lincoln was america's favororite all-time president; jfk and "w" ties for 2nd and clinton got second.

now during our dub years we didn't pay that much attention (or claimed we didn't hehe)to the history of our presidents.

but i was curious as to who you guys think our best all-time president was.

I didn't like many of them, but at the moment I'd have to say FDR..

it is indeed strange, yet understandable to observe the "kneejerk" reactions you get when you point out possible .

flaw's with the mighty us of a, "god's own country".

even from people who should have learned not to have that .

Cello, good post. Either which way, when we get a pres too far one way or another, we're screwed. It's a bit hard to find any sort of balance in this country, though. The current situation with corporate domination and the globalization plague seem to be an evolving form of fascism (the corporations are outrunning our government!). I think even Thomas Jefferson is rolling over in his grave right now.

Food for a funeral

a sister who lived in a local cong was dying and so she decided to get ready for this by preparing all the food for her funeral.. she spent a lot of time baking cakes, quiches and making sandwiches etc and filled the freezer with these so that the brothers and sisters could remember her at the get together after the funeral talk.. would you have eaten anything?

i didnt.

or is it just me?

You make some good points. I've always had a problem with those who are proud of something that they had no control over (birthplace, race, etc.). When you consider this nation's history (Native American genocide, Vietnam, etc.) and current dealings (Irag sanctions, funding murder in Columbia, etc.), it's a bit difficult to just run out there and scream, "I'm proud of America!". You hear folks say we are great because we are democratic (forced into picking the lesser evil between two dipshits, no wonder less than 50% of us vote), we have capitalism (woohoo! Our middle class is shrinking and millions do not even make a living wage). I am grateful that I have the right to express these views, something I wouldn't have in many countries in the middle east. I have some hope for this country. But in the meantime, fuck pride! It gets you nowhere...

Is this world ruled by Demons and are we?

to me, one of the most pathetic and lamest of all watchtower teachings is the fantasy that satan and the demons rule the world.

the witnesses are terrified of these demons getting into their minds through everything from wearing old clothes bought at the thrift store to smoking cigarettes (remember all drugs give demons easy access to your mind.).

they would have you believe that each country on earth is controlled by really big mean and tough demons (hey demons cant be nice you know) and they are actively controlling the minds of the political leaders in a global chess game because they have nothing better to do.. i was wondering then if anyone can show me a single itsy bitsy tiny amount of evidence to show any credible physical evidence or logical/metaphysical reasoning to back the jw ideological boogey men.

Ahhhh yes, demons. Another scare tactic of the brog. It's a shame they are not really around; I was expecting them to move right in when I left the organization. I need some buddies.

What I missed being a JW

i got to thinking the other day about things that i missed out on being a jw growing up.

not going to collage comes to mind as does dating more extensively.. the thing i look back on with the most regret though, is my lack of deep friendships.

going to high school i had worldly friends of course, but i never let myself get too close to them.
