How many screws did it take to assemble the seat in front of you? Multiply by number of seats in the hall....

Do antidepressants really work? or placibo?
by boy@crossroads ini've posted on freeminds for over a year now but i rarely post on the medical treatment forum.
i believe i've had depression or some other milder form of depression for many months but i haven't gotten antidepressants for a couple of reasons 1.pride- i feel that taken antidepressants is admittion that i'm weak, 2. fear- i don't have health insurance and i'm afraid of the financial reprocussions of prescriptions and mental healthcare visits.
3. i'm also afraid that by taking the medication it will have no affect (wasted money) or that i will be worse off after taking them than if i had done nothing.. give me some of your thoughts.

I vote see a real doctor, and if he/she recommends an antidepressant (after a thorough physical) ask for samples or generic. It sometimes takes a month or more to get results. But I must say, I felt better about an hour after the first dose. Not a placebo.

JW Graduates at the top of her class
by TresHappy inthe sound system always seems to blare piercing static through the speakers.
the weather is often too hot or disappointingly overcast.
i'm not going to go up there and thank all my friends or talk about being together in the future.

SW, I was valedictorian, too, and spoke at commencement. I guess I didn't have to juggle sports and clubs too much to study! But I did join a few clubs my senior year. I too started college immediately, but a local comuter college.
Of course, we are talking about back in the dark ages....

What did you learn throughout the years as a JW?
by JH inwhat did you learn about the watchtower organization.
what did you learn about the jw's .
what did you learn about god in general and the kingdom to come?

I learned some good stuff... I was an obedient kid, and had really good parents. So how much was the JW thing and how much was good parenting is confused.
I read early and well, had absolutely no 'stage fright' (and still don't), I've never been arrested or had an STD....
But I learned about faith and a loving God many years later, elsewhere.

Welcome, Quandry! Just keep reading and thinking. You will find most of us have some single doctrine or policy that we just couldn't live with, and then that allowed us to examine others. Thank you for having the courage to jump in.

Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?
by minimus inwhen the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

Welcome PDQ. You ask why we discuss negative topics. Well, as for me, this board is not my whole life--but it is a confirmation and comradery thing for me to know that other people felt the same confusion and disillusionment that I felt. I DO try to reach out to those lost, but I also hug and commiserate (sp?) with those people who can really relate. Just out of curiosity, were you ever a witness?

I never bought into it myself as a kid. (Born in). It just didn't seem real. I mean, how many times can the alarm go off until you no longer notice it? I think I'm immune to the armaggedon fear. But I feels so sad for my 'faithful' 86 year old parents when I hear them say, "I never thought I'd live to be this old and sick in this old system." Thank goodness they saved for retirement.
