  I got a letter this week from an old friend

  i'm musing over a letter i received in the mail, from by childhood best friend.

  it's a brief newsy letter asking about my parents, recalling some fun times, and recounting her happy 23 years of pioneering.

  her 14 year old son stays busy with preparing for meetings..... we were best friends from age 6 or 8. we spent every weekend at each others' houses.

  Thanks for the replies. Yes, I do wonder what prompted this blast from the past. Could there have been at least a reminder to reach out to those who left? I am working on a reply in my mind, but I haven't put it on paper. She didn't ask about my position about religion, but did say how her 23 years of pioneering have just flown by (gag). I'm not going to challenge her, but I think I will reply including my happy years at the Methodist Church.

  She asked about my job, and my parents, and the lake cottage...I'd forgotten how much I missed her.

  Suppose she counted her time for writing to me? (What am I thinking...of course she did!)

  Hi all. I'm musing over a letter I received in the mail, from by childhood best friend. It's a brief newsy letter asking about my parents, recalling some fun times, and recounting her happy 23 years of pioneering. Her 14 year old son stays busy with preparing for meetings....

  We were best friends from age 6 or 8. We spent every weekend at each others' houses. We vacationed together, whispered at meetings together, babysat together... vWhen I was 17, I gleefully told her that I had finally got up my nerve to tell my dad that I wasn't going to go out in service any more, and that although as long as I lived at home, I would attend meetings, my secret was out that my heart wasn't in this.

  I thought all along that she understood my position clearly. Of course, I should have anticipated her reaction, but it turns out her 'faith' was much stronger than I had anticipated. The reply was, ' So I guess that means we can't be friends any more.' You can imagine how that felt to a teenager--my best and closest friend blowing me off like that.

  So somebody please tell me that now, at age 44, seeing her handwriting and reading that letter should not make me feel sad and rejected all over again. This is so stupid! I wouldn't want to live that life for anything!

  I have a parallel Bible that has KJV, NIV, Living, and American Standard lined up evenly. I like the Message, too. I think I like NIV best.

  Gregor, I hadn't thought of that for a while. That was miserable, wasn't it? My brother had a third grade teacher who would march him to the front of the class and say, " Mark's going to lead us in the pledge today, aren't you? What's the matter? Stand up straight? Oh, crying again?" etc. Scarred him for life.

  Poor Hambeak! You are having a rough patch. Remember you've survived so many other trials in the past, and you can get through this, too. Bless Jake! I agree with the day or even minute at a time plan. Hugs to you!

  Medical procedure Question ....mom's in hospital

  my mom has many health problems one being she is diabetic .

  last night her blood sugars dropped to 16 !!!!

  thankfully my sister was awake heard a noise and went to check on mom .

  For people who are no longer awake enough to protect the airway, but don't have IV access, IM glucagon is a good answer. If she's truly unresponsive, I'm not sure you could get enough glucose paste or honey to absorb buccally without aspirating.

  I work in the ER. Crummy veins are the norm with bad diabetics. Has her doctor ever talked about a mediport? It's a surgically inserted iv site in a central vein that can be accessed in emergencies.

  Does she see a specialist for her diabetes management? I don't think I've ever seen anyone on long acting (Lantus) twice a day. Most people get that once a day, and frequent monitoring with coverage with rapid acting insulin. Some people who are 'insulin resistant' are also on the pills.

  Oh, come on now, you guys! It's catchy, kind of Jewish sounding...actually, I have heard this song in worship at our Methodist Church. It was a guest music ministry performing--a little corny but nothing you ever saw at the hall !!!!!

  Hearing 'Jehovah' at church makes me squirm, but maybe I'll get desensitized eventually.

  Seriously, I thought everyone knew Kenneth Copeland Ministries. Just goes to show how apostate I've become...

  The only obvious way to shear off the tip that I know is if you reinserted the stylet while having trouble threading the catheter, puncturing and shearing off the catheter. That fragment can potentially float downstream--medical term is an embolism. Wherever it gets hung up determines the problem--heart valve, lung, brain, etc.

  I can't picture in my mind what is missing and presumed inside the patient. I mean, when I discontinue an IV, I always eyeball the catheter to verify it is the expected length, smooth tipped and intact. What could possibly be lost in the bed??? I mean, if you remove the catheter and it's not intact, it's in the patient. They don't just crumble!

  I would guess that flouroscopy would be the obvious tool to look for the thing. Most insertible medical devices have a radiopaque stripe so you check for placement.

  Do you rather an automatic or manual transmission?

  .

  my first cars were all "manual" and they were small cars, cheap on gas.. then later on in life, i spoiled myself and bought automatic cars.. last week, i tried a manual yaris, and wasn't that comfortable with the manual transmission.

  maybe it's the fact that i didn't drive a manual car in 6 years.. just wondering if anyone here after driving automatic transmission cars since many years, if you would come back to manual..

  Okay, I'm an automatic transmission only kind of person, I am embarassed to say. I can drive a manual if I must, but have never been comfortable with it. I have driven my husband's 87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe (it's 5 speed) and let's just say it wasn't pretty. My big ole Durango is auto, but it also is 4WD, which is a requirement to me. Just wish it got more than 13 miles/gallon.
