OMG Spray Tan Disaster !!!!
by Sirona innow i wasn't going to share this, but i just have to!
i can't tan (had melanoma skin cancer) so i decided that for the long-awaited bbq on saturday i'd treat myself to a "spray-tan".
for those of you who don't know, its false tanning where you are sprayed with the tanning all over and it lasts about a week.. what a disaster!.

Ebay is REALLY addictive as my husband and I found out, buying antique medical equipment ( know it's wierd, but you gotta have hobbies!) A word from experience: we spent way too much money very quickly. I do best with paypal coming directly from my checking account, NOT THE CREDIT CARD.
Isn't it fun, tho???????

Can you admit that you "used to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses"?
by undercover ini was reading about minimus' trip to the hospital and his telling them that he "used to be a jw" but he would take blood now if needed.. it got me to thinking; i don't like telling people that i used to be a jw.
that's in my past and i prefer to keep it there.
if asked about my upbringing or religious preference, i usually just comment on being brought up in a strict religion but i got over it..and then try to change the subject.

"My parents are Jehovah's Witnesses. I was raised that, but I left. Now I'm a Methodist." I like seeing other people's reactions. Some people look puzzled. Others look shocked or just don't know what to say. We talk about religion at work quite a bit. There are several witnesses in the company, including the CFO, so I'm pretty careful to not say a lot outside my department. But my closest coworkers are very supportive.

Pet owners update: What would you pay?
by frozen one ini had my cat put to sleep this morning.
he had really gone down hill overnight.
i asked the vet if she thought the catheter breaking was not preventable.

So sorry you had to put the cat down. That is so heartwrenching to go through. I'd wait briefly to decide about another pet.

Thunderstorms: Scare You Now?
by serotonin_wraith in.
i'm fine with storms now but before if i was sleeping and thunder woke me up i'd automatically think this could be the end.. i know an exjw now who gets nervous if there's a storm, she hasn't been able to break free completely from that childhood belief in the back of her mind.. how about you?

I have always loved a wild thunderstorm, but I'm not always sensible about when to take cover. Years ago my husband and I were on the local volunteer fire/ambulance service, and now my daughter and son in law are on it. Give any of us an emergency and we are "Johnny on the Spot". Blizzards kind of scare me, though. I've been out in snow, cold and disoriented, and that was frightening.

Social security fraud?

she has had 4 husbands.
(i'll refer to them by number).

Sorry for complaining. I sure am NOT envious of her situation. You just gotta grow up in my family to appreciate how opportunistic she can be. She's definitely intelligent. The interesting thing is just how much she hated #2 (he was a jerk to her and her kids), but then she sure did sit up and take notice when he died....
Again, sorry for my bad attitude. I'm the 'responsible' one (sigh)

Pet owners: How much would you pay?
by frozen one ini have had a couple of cats for years.
last thursday i noticed one of them could not urinate.
i have seen this before so i assumed that he had a stone blocking up his works.
-

Wow, I can relate.
If your cat survives this immediate insult (illness), will he be continent (able to control his urine)? Speaking from experience, an incontinent house cat is just about as bad as it gets.
I would ask the vet frankly about the bill, since a retained catheter started the complications. I'd be agreeable to paying for the intial procedure and meds, but the complication repair and extended hospital time should be his responsibility.
I know the worry of "how can I put a dollar value on my dear pet?" There is no clearcut answer. Do you have a family that loves him, too? Is money very tight at home? Would paying the vet for continued care seriously affect your household budget?
I paid $750 for my old calico cat to have her ear canal reshaped, as it was chronicly infected. Although she survived and recovered, the suffering she went through convinced me that I would never do that to her again. Now she has cancer, but is eating okay, purring, and more vocal and interactive than ever. The DAY she is visibly uncomfortable I will have her put down. She is my 18 year old handicapped pal.
So do whatever you think best, and don't forget to pray to thank God for giving us the joy of companion animals--and their example of unconditional love.

Child baptism
by 5thGeneration inwhy does the society encourages kids to get baptized?.
1. it becomes a bragging right for the parents.. 2. it puts too much pressure on the kids.. 3. it is unscriptural as jesus astounded the jewish leaders at 12 years old and yet did not himself get baptized until another 18 years later.
hard to believe that some 12 year old snot in the congregation has a deeper relationship and understanding with god than jesus did!.

My folks used to say it was a 'protection' to be baptized young--that way when you got older and rebellious, the door was already shut--you were committed!
I, however, the queen of passive aggressive, dodged the pool. thank goodness.
