  Was I shunned?

  did she really just shun me??.

  after work today, i went to a restaurant to pick up some dinner.

  as i walked to the counter i passed a woman who i knew along time ago.

  After work today, I went to a restaurant to pick up some dinner. As I walked to the counter I passed a woman who I knew along time ago. I didn't know right away 'where' I knew her from but I looked her in the eye and simply said: "Hi," with a small smile.

  I got no response. She glanced briefly at me and looked down as she walked past me.

  Hmmm. Then I remembered where I knew her from. My old job. For about 13 years her kids were patients at my office - AND I remembered that they were also witnesses. Her husband was an elder. He was with her. We used to have very, very pleasant chats. I even went to their congregation for a few times while I was trying to re-gain the joy that I had lost in the organization. (I never talked to her about this, in fact, I never really told anyone that I was feeling joyless.)

  She and her husband looked the same as they had. Just a little (not much) older. I remember them being happy. Not today. They looked tired and unhappy.

  While I was getting condiments, the Husband came over to get some too. I made small talk with him and he smiled a little. He did not recognize me. But he never really knew me personally.

  I collected my food and started to leave but decided to push just a little bit to check if I was really shunned or not. So I stopped at their sad table and said with a nice smile "Hi. Maybe you don't remember me but I really didn't want to leave without acknowleding you. Maybe you didn't recognize me. I'm D***** - from Dr B*****'s office."

  I got a smile from her. Within seconds she asked: "Weren't you also friends with D****** H****?" (D****** H**** was the eldest daughter of a prominent JW family in the area.) "Yes! We were roommates for a few years."

  They asked how I've been. And I let them know! I'm doing great! Thanks for asking. A new job - doing very well there. Just bought a really nice home in a very pretty area two miles from work. They asked how I got the job and I told them it started while I was working on a project for school.

  My life sure isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good. I decided to share the good points especially after reading of others experiences here.

  Now, if they asked me about meetings, I would have told them the truth. Then maybe they would have shunned me. Maybe not. But we'll never know because they didn't ask and I didn't have a need to tell.

  I'm glad I stopped and chatted. I wasn't shunned at all. They were just sad and tired and it showed.

  Losing the Internet today...

  just wanted to let everyone know, until i get an isp at home again i will only be posting as often as i go to the public library to use their computers.. if anyone needs/wants to get in touch with me, i have made sure big tex has my contact information.

  i trust his judgment on who to pass it along to.

  you can also send me a pm here, but i am not sure how often i will be checking them.. i have deeply appreciated all the insights i have gained from discussions with you people, and i hope i have provoked some new or different thoughts as well.

  Did you get the new tract?

  just wanted to run an informal poll to see how "effective" or hopelessly "ineffective" the borg tract assimilation drive has been.. i for one, have not received the tract, and i live in densely populated development.

  did anybody get it left in their doors/mailboxes?.

  Nope. Not yet.

  I've moved recently and the few jws that would call on me about every other year don't know where I live now. It's a gated community so not likely to be worked by the local cong.

  Panic Attacks

  a co-worker says she's been having panic attacks lately and is quite concerned about them.. she was given a prescription for atarax to use 'as needed' but it didn't help any.. i wonder if anyone here has had - or knows someone who has had - these sort of attacks.. what sort of symptoms were experienced?

  what treatment worked??

  what didn't work???.

  Ian - the rectangle exercise is such an odd method. How did you happen upon that one?

  RunningMan - I'm glad your wife finally got some relief. Did leaving the org factor in at all?

  Emma - you wrote: "During an eposode you can't do anything else but deal with it." How did you deal with it. That is an immediate concern. How to cope in the thows of an episode without calling an ambulance.

  Candidly - First comment to my thread. You ARE still out there!! (Missed you lately.) Breathing, eh? It's a good start!

  I'll pass this info on and will check back in a little bit. Hopefully more experiences and suggestions.

  My anniversary today - 1 year on the forum

  it's one year today since i joined this board, as a more than a little nervous jw, i hadn't disassociated then.

  this was a place i really needed to be at that time, as i certainly lived up to my alias when i first registered.

  although i'm not in any doubt about the jws now of course.. i'm still very thankful that this place existed when i took those first faltering steps out of the watchtower, i'd still have left without it, but being here made it so much easier to leave, thanks to the kindness of the many wonderful people on here.

  What's Your Favourite Board Game? Fluff Level 3

  what's your favourite board game?

  i'm asking because i want to go out tomorrow and buy a new one.

  my kids have re-discovered that they can be a lot more fun than ps2 games and of course it's something we can all play together on a more sociable level.

  Monopoly is fun but can take hours to play.

  Cranium is a new-ish one that seems to appeal to kids.

  I liked Life and Battleship.

  Chess is a great game to teach them (if you play well enough to teach them).

  My brothers and I play backgammon.

  I don't know if they do this every year, but 2 or 3 years ago Toys 'R Us had a Buy One boardgame, Get One free.
