i "stormed" out of a meeting for the first time in my life tonight.

i had a message to call my mom this afternoon when i got home.
her voice concerned, she said "michael, please call us as soon as you can, we heard you may have been hurt".
i called back to find out what was going on.
Hey Mike,
First things first. Yeah Iam ready for the collard green w/pig tails, and can handel two or three pork chops as well. Thanks for the invite.
I was really chuckeling at your story involving all the intrigue in the Perry congregation. When you drive through some of those little Ga towns, with all the historical homes and little one horse stores, creating a picture worthy of Norman Rockwell...it just doesn't equate.
I'll tell you my new friend, it is not any different anywhere within the Empire. I don't know how much time you have spent reading all the horror stories regarding Jw life here on the net, but there are a ton of em. Your story is very tame.
In the 60's racial tension was at an all time high. I remember going in field service with a mutual aquaintance one day, he opened his glove box in which was a fully loaded 38snub nose revolver. I asked him why he carried it, is direct and unabashed comment was 'in case of niggers'. This statement while we were going from door to door, some of which homes were occupied by black's. I did not say a word, it was so ingrained in him, if I would have taken exception to it, he would have been really offended. It just was a different time and place. I learned alot about people and attitudes in those days.
Have you ever heard what happened to your friend Arra(sp?)
Really enjoyed hearing your stories. Thanks for sharing.
Danny
Ps Do you put fresh corn in your stove-top corn bread (Jiffy)?

Bendrr,
I was going over your thread again, and noticed nobody acknowledged your original story. So glad you were not shot! Hello
Rumor's used to fly about certain notorious Jw's all the time, as I remember. Since so many are related to one another in the south, rumors tend to spread alot faster, than elsewhere.
Just struck me funny, how we all got going on who knew who, but we ignored your story.

Mornin Uncle,
I didn't even know there was such a thing as an e-mail reject list. I think Tina has disfellowshiped me. I hope not. If friendships are that easy to break-up, I guess there wasn't any in the first place.

Ps Even when Rick comes over here looking for feedback, he does not have the courtesy to reply. Gotta make you wonder, what in the hell is going on in his head?

Joel,
I sympathize with the all day 'field service'....if I remember on negative about GA it was those damn little 'black fly's', they seemed to swarm for your mouth and eye's...coupled with the sweltering humidity, door to door was pure torture. Trying to give your sermon while constantly batting those little bugger's was not fun!
Some of the old timer's wouldn't even notice them. I was always glad when winter came. Man I loved the thunder and lighting storms. I can remember the thunder literally shaking the entire house. It was on those kinda nites, I would curl up and read James Mischner....who I can truly say now, got my Jw brain cells thinking 'outside the box'.
Since then I have read his entire 'works'. Ever read him?

Dana and Bendrr,
You guys made me dream about Georgia 'on my mind' last nite.
Dana the McMahon name sounds very familiar. In those day's the witness community in GA was very close knit. I think we went to Perry one day to help tear down an old barn or train depot, someone let the brother's have the lumber, for use in building the KH. I hate to keep bringing up juvenile girl watching, but that happened to be what my mind was dwelling on at that time of my life. Go figure. Did the McMahon's have a daughter in her teen's or early twenties? (1966)
Anyone having the southern heritage, can be proud. The people I met while living there were extrodinary, in many ways. Love of family and a sense of community, I have not since been able to find. Of course as is true with any region, the black vs. white is not to pretty, but from what I have heard, great strides have been made in that area of late.
Nice chatting with guys.
Danny
