Does anyone have a reference to the articles? My mother-in-law is on her way out because of the way my parents are acting toward my wife and I and she recently wanted to "re-read" the stance the Watchtower is taking. If you have any references / copies that would be great. It will cement her exodus from The Borg.

You're not supposed to contact Ex-JWs children at all?
by Hairyhegoat inthe society has been cracking down hard on parents having contact with children who have left.
for a long time, it was kind of a "wink-wink" thing with the "necessary family business" loophole, and a lot of families found some relief with that.. but in the latest magazines and assembly parts, they're making it crystal-clear that pretty much nothing except a death in the family counts as "necessary family business".
and even then, you probably wouldn't be invited to the funeral.. the key is, they don't actually define what "necessary family business" is in the article.

Is there a Christian message without the element of fear/perceived threat?
by nvrgnbk inso many christians highlight love and mercy as the main point of their religion.. that's undeniably appealing.. but is it true to christianity?.
in the end, isn't the belief all about escaping god's violent wrath?
aren't those that are unable to accept the system's contradictions and absurdities promised suffering and eventual destruction as punishment for their disbelief?.

Now, I don't post here often as you can see, however as someone who left the JW's and then "converted" to Christianity, I thought I might add a few things here: The original question was if there is a Christian message without the element of fear/threat? Yes, it is what the Gospels teach. Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love God and then the second is to love your neighbour. The message of love was what Jesus preached. "isn't the belief all about escaping God's violent wrath". No, it's about escaping the current state of sin that all people are in, and coming into communion with God. God isn't some egomaniac that needs to be worshiped. The reason people should worship is because of what God has done for us. We are in a state of sin, Jesus suffered as a human and bore our sins for us, so that we would be sinless in God's eyes. The reward for belief in Jesus sacrifice is communion with God. I can't argue that atrocities have been committed in the name of Christ, but nowhere in the New Testament does Jesus ever teach that line of thought. If you doubt me, I would love to see some actual Biblical references in your response. We can all point fingers at the bad works MEN have done in the name of Christ, but those actions of MEN do not nullify that saving message of Jesus. Having done A LOT of investigation in to Christianity and the message Jesus preached, I can say that the distorted view the JW's preach is absolutely disgusting. It isn't even close to the message Jesus preached.

$50 - $100 bucks? That's what they are here in Ontario. I hope you have an elevator or live on the first floor. Those real trees can get pretty heavy.

Got a Visit Yesterday
by Nosferatu ini was at home last night, fixing some 8-track tapes, when i got a knock at the door.
the wife is out of town, so i'm wondering who the hell is knocking on my door.. i opened it, and there was my mother and another lady from my old congregation.
this lady is one of the few genuinely good people in the congregation.

I'm confused as to how you think her not being a JW would allow her to do so much more? It sounds like she cares for people because she is a nice person. Whether she helps other dubs or not shouldn't really matter.

Putting the world on notice! Like anyone cared!
by free2beme ini remember a few district conventions, and some parts in the witness history books, that had these leaders of the witnesses claiming to put the world on notice.
what a joke, did they actually have some warped idea that government leaders were actually paying attention to them and shaking in their boots.
i would doubt that their words even made it beyond the neighborhoods we preached in and unless the mayor of that small town was behind one of those doors, it was unlikely that anyone in government cared or listened.

Personally, I can't believe the UN would give even the slightest notice to the comments the WTBS has made. I'm sure with all the problems in the world a "organization" rambling on about them being a "scarlet colored wild beast" is the least of their problems. I would think war, poverty and trade disputes are taking up most of their time. 1/10th of 1 percent of the worlds population is hardly noticeable.
