Hmmm. There's too many of those "molestation" type scandals in the org.

How common is swinging among JWs?
by JimmyPage inmy wife and i recently heard about two couples we know who switched partners in the past.
we then got to talking about a different couple we ate dinner with a while back who i thought gave off the vibe of wanting to swing.
my wife said she got that vibe too... thus the question: how common is this in wt-land?.

Do you know of the scandals that rocked Kanagroo Island a number of years ago?
I didn't think the congregation would be big enough to have any scandals!

Mattieu, that's funny! I heard stories of some husband/wife swaps in Adelaide but I didn't know the couples personally.

It's amusing that many of those terms don't appear in the bible.

tpadgett, welcome to JWn!
You are absolutely doing the right thing investigating the religion that your boyfriend belongs to - whether you want to become a Jehovah's Witness or not.
You see being a Jehovah's Witness governs every aspect of your life. Has your boyfriend told you Jehovah's Witnesses aren't allowed to celebrate birthdays, mothers day, fathers day, xmas and most other celebrations? Do you realise your boyfriend is going against his beliefs by dating you? You probably already know that there is no sex before marriage but even after marriage, there are rules (oral sex is condemned).
Jehovah's Witnesses believe that god is about to destroy everyone who is not a Jehovah's Witness (that's why they go from house to house - to warn people). Once you become a Jehovah's Witness you can't change your mind. If you leave, an announcement will be made at the kingdom hall that you are "no longer a Jehovah's Witness" and you won't be able to associate with your family or friends who are Jehovah's Witnesses. So it is a path from which there is no return (at least without severe consequences).
Once you become emotionally involved with someone, it's very hard to be objective though.

Some Single Sisters' Problems with Brothers
by friday77 infirst of all, i'm a newbie to this site, so i hope that there will be some response to my thread on this particular topic (which i have plenty to relate about).. i wonder why some single (and a few married) brothers in the org have shown a great deal of disrespect for single sisters?
i am bringing this issue up because not only myself but also my sisters [i have four (4) other in my immediate family] along with 3 of my cousins (who have been dedicated and baptized since adolescent age) plus my own close girlfriends have experienced being gossiped/slandered by a host of brothers who think that they are "all that" and jah's gift to women on planet earth!
as a matter fact, when one brother in particular [whose uncle is an elder, brother was a regular pioneer/temporary worker at bethel and cousin was a ministerial servant] at a nicely-populated gathering saw myself, two (2) of four sisters, one of cousins and a few of my close friends being approached as well as introduced to a number of handsome, well-dressed brothers to us via two (2) of the family members whom hosted the event.

Hello friday77, welcome to JWn!
There are many issues relating to women in the organisation. It's not just isolated to the young single ones either.
In the situation you've mentioned, I think these young boys just don't know how to behave. And they are not given the opportunity to get to know young girls as friends and equals.
They are bound to have trouble relating to women outside the congregation as well (such as in the workplace and in society generally).

My Analysis of the Special Talk
by metatron ini found the special talk to be a bit more bizarre than usual as it seemed to invent a parallel dimension in which churches freely preach hate and racial division in contrast to "the truth".
deeply fantasy laden yet somehow vague and unfocused.. what i do find significant is a change in emphasis.
in the past, these sort of talks used to drone on about how wonderful the organization is relative to the evil surrounding world.

The outline for this talk wasn't word for word like it used to be for special talks.

by penny2 inhttp://blogs.news.com.au/adelaidenow/turkeyshoot/index.php/adelaidenow/comments/faith_no_more_atheism_in_australia/.
this article appeared in the most popular weekend newspaper in my area (south australia).
it's encouraging to see a young person work out the truth about "the truth".. penny.

Since it names the boy his father must be mortified.
There are 39 members in his extended family. All are witnesses except 4 (including himself). So he has really shown quite a lot of courage.
