Congratulations on your first year out! All those hours you haven't spent sitting in boredom at the KH.

i know that this is not a new topic, or that important really.
however, it's now been a full year since we last attended any meetings or went out in fs.
just felt good today and jwn has been a great source of encouragement over the year.

to all you forum members up there (and everybody).
i am sure many down here in the southern states are thinking of you.
bunker down and may you come out the other side.
Black Sheep, I've never been to Queensland (except Birdsville) but I do believe the coastal areas are very beautiful - normally. At the moment I think South Australia is the most attractive part of the country.
this came from an email circulated a couple of weeks ago.
i highlighted the paragraph at the end about the fds, we can get in trouble if we don't follow their directions--carefully.
at this moment, friday morning, australian time, all our brothers and sisters are safe and accounted for.
Queensland authorities have been spot on in dealing with the disasters in that state. The Premier Anna Bligh cannot be faulted in how she has handled it.
I doubt the FDS even knows what's going on in Australia, especially if they are talking about the "governing body." Did they tell the JWs in the path of the cyclone to fill up their bath tubs with water in case their water supply gets cut off?
from the comment section in this story: made to listen in on god's lessons.

he said buggered if i know, i've never been let in before.. .
One experience that's not going to be told at a convention. I'm sure many JWs feel this way. Mostly it's just knocking on doors where no-one is home.

Looks like many houses have been destroyed but there is no loss of life up to now.
At least 3 babies were born during the cyclone, one of them in an evacuation centre (a little girl). Luckily a midwife on holidays from England was on hand to deliver the baby.
a few years ago, maybe 15, i was serving as a m/s.
we all went to a special meeting at the assembly hall about saving a certain kingdom hall in the hills.
anyone remember?.
I didn't realise a lot of heads rolled. I thought it was just the one person who was held solely responsible. Interesting.

I think the two scandals are connected, aren't they Oz. The elder that caused all the strife was disfellowshipped, later reinstated and has since died.
Money was collected from the local congregations to help save the hall. I'm sure I remember letters being read out in the congregation. Then there was a court case. The Watchtower Society won and they got to keep their kingdom hall.
Other JWs had money invested in his scheme (which involved property development), I believe they lost their money.
I don't think there are any South Aussie ex elders or m/s posting (but if you are out there lurking.......)
this was a very moving story just posted on another ex jw site please read it's good .
elder reveals his secretjanuary 28th, 2011. by shadow elder, jr.. a few weeks ago, my father and i were out working together in the door-to-door preaching work.
that morning only four of us showed up at the kingdom hall my dad and i, and a married brother and sister.
This is a great thread. Thanks HHG.

another weekend with the kids over.... i have concluded sadly that i may have reached the end of the line when it comes to reaching my son.
not that i will 'give up' but i have to realize that although he knows i have a lot to show him, that he should be researching the religion before he gets baptised, that he will probably go down that road regardless.
not that i blame him.
Oz, the social life of young JWs in Australia is pretty good. They drink and party like the best of them. The meetings are also social occasions. Ok, so they have to listen to some boring stuff but they glaze over while that's going on. Afterwards, they see their mates and get to organise their other activities.
Now that your son has a girlfriend, he probably feels like he's got it all. A great time now plus everlasting life. All he needs to do is get baptized and it's assured (sorry).
All you can do is be there for him if/when it falls apart.
You'll always be their dad.

today is kim clijsters' birthday and a month ago she announced her retirement from tennis.
i remember the week she was born very well.
i have watched tennis since the late '70s, and i remember when billie jean king was a star, when jimmy connors was a hot new thing, and when "virginia slims" matches were shown on wtbs.
Kimmy is much loved in Australia. She was once engaged to Lleyton Hewitt. They split up but her popularity only increased.
