That's shocking! And according to the news, his wife didn't know yet. She's climbing a mountain in Tassie.

Can the women wear pants YET?
by annalice ini have not been an active witness active for several years now.
so are the women still being forced to wear skirts and dresses still?
i really think that the whole dress thing has been for some time now very outdated.
-

What a ridiculous rule. The men having to wear ties (especially in FS in Australia when it's really hot) is just as bad.

Aussies/Canadians of JWD most laid back~
by FlyingHighNow ini was thinking today, i've been here at jwd for nearly three years now.
i've observed that our aussie members are the most laid back members on the board here.they don't take their country, their politics or anything too seriously really.
people who are from europe tend to be more laid back than the brits and americans.

Even Aussie JW's are laidback.
I agree. Maybe that's why less Aussie JWs seem to be leaving compared to other countries. I don't know the stats, but that's how it looks to me, especially in South Oz (far from base, ie bethel). Now that hardly anyone worries about FS except during the CO's visit, it's just a matter of coasting along. If your whole family is still in and no-one rocks the boat, all is good. But if you do rock the boat, it's the same as everywhere else.

What do the endless debates with ThirdWitness etc prove?
by jwfacts inthere are currently long debates going on with 3w about the subtle meaning of words and how they are supposed to prove the wts has the correct doctrine.
even as a jw i always noticed that it was impossible to prove a doctrine to people in the field.
the fact that 2 christians can discuss topics endlessly without any conclusion shows me that god can not possibly be going to destroy every non jw simply because they could not be convinced of watchtower doctrine.. the bible says very little about doctrine, besides pauls discussions to show jesus is our ransomer and means for everlasting heavenly life.

Unless, of course, he is counting this in his field service time.
I think he is a pioneer who has alienated everyone else in his congregation with his debates so no-one wants to work with him from house to house (the others just want to do some token hours knocking on doors where people aren't home).

The first signals of doubt?
by The wanderer inthe watchtower and the deciding factors
can you recall the very first inner voices of doubt that.
you carried about the watchtower society?

Firstly 1975 raised some concern. Then I came across some publications by someone called Miller and I thought he sounded like a raving lunatic. However, when you're a third generation jw and your whole happy family is in "the truth", doubts are suppressed and life carries on as "normal".

I know of some JW who do not really accept the new light (tm) and say "Well, there are still some around of the 1914 generation.
Not surprising, considering the extensive brainwashing that took place around the "generation" doctrine. What are they going to think though, in 10 or 15 years when there is really no-one alive of the 1914 generation. Then again, they don't think, do they!

Missing the friends left behind
by The wanderer inmissing the friends left behind
miss any of their friends that they left behind in the organization.
understandable in a way, why they feel the way they do.

I remember in my darkest hour, being betrayed by my best friend and then shunned by her when I wasn't even d/f. Took me years to get over that. I've seen families shun their most vulnerable - for life. You cannot rely on any "friend" found in the kingdom hall.

I enjoyed that description! You are a good writer, Wanderer. In time, you may become more comfortable with those situations as you have nothing to be embarrassed about. I can understand your feelings though.
