when i started researching i was still convinced that jws had the truth.
so i read some critical articles by ex-jws about certain teaching and i started to do some more research.. at this time i have successfully faded and no longer believe anymore.
but i can remember the moment when i first allowed the thought in my mind that it could all be false and not the truth.
The first time. It was 1978. I was on holidays and came across some really old publications. I couldn't believe what I was reading - it sounded like complete rubbish. I remember my heart beating fast.
It was another 17 years before I finally realised that it was all a load of baloney. By then it was just relief. I wasn't a bad person.

hey all, hope you are all well.
well my little man is 5 and we had his birthday party on the weekend, our house was full with 40 people, and the backyard was filled with a jumping castle, we had helium balloon all over the house, it was awesome.. i cooked for three days straight and man was i tired by the end of the day, but it was great, i so wished i had of had the chance to celebrate bdays when i was a kid.. anyway heres the online album for you to look at.

this is my 1000th post, (light sabre required now), and as i've never told my story on this forum i though i'd do it now.

He is putting pressure on me to get baptized.
What your father is doing is not right. Getting baptized should only be done if you have made a personal dedication to serve Jehovah for the rest of your life - and if you are prepared to live by all the rules that the "society" sets (field service 10 hours a month, 5 meetings a week and all the other requirements).
If you think the religion drags you down, you are not going to be happy as a JW. Don't be intimidated by your father.
Imagine if you get baptized and then do something wrong and get disfellowshipped. Your father will be even more unhappy than if you never get baptized in the first place.

You already know where you stand. My advice? Start setting yourself up to be independent. Have a plan.

Hi Bianca, welcome to JWD. Being an elder's daughter - people expect you to set a high standard.
DO NOT GET BAPTIZED. Especially if you are having doubts and are falling for someone on the outside. Being brought up with JW principles, it can take a long time before you do something "wrong" but it will happen. It's natural to want to be loved, to be attracted to someone and sooner or later to have sex. If you are baptized that would lead to disfellowshipping. If you are not baptized, it's much easier. Your family can continue to speak to you in the future when you want to leave home.
Most of us on JWD are convinced that "the truth" is not the truth. The best advice I can give you is research. There are many websites that can help you with this. One, set up by an Aussie, is www.jwfacts.com. If you have never questioned anything you've been taught, it will be an eye-opener.
