I steer away from conversations about "the truth" with JW relatives these days. They almost always end in grief.

Witnesses are Just Protestants on Crack.
by jwfacts in... or is lsd.. i do not affiliate myself with any religious organization.
in one of the few conversations i have had with any of my family members since being disfellowshipped, my aunty said that was logical that i can not find another religion, as if i was not going to be a jw then "there certainly isn't any other religion that is better.
" to me that sort of thinking could only come from someone tripping.

Latest Australian JW statistics
by jwfacts ini have just updated the graphs of jws in australia with the 2007 statistics.
there is a spike in australia similar to the increased growth this year globally.
there does not seem to be any real reason for this, so the question needs to be asked, "how legitimate the figures are this year?

Interesting. If you look at the number baptised as an average per congregation - it's still a very low figure. It's still mostly kids grown up in JW families who are getting baptised.
I've also heard of several disfellowshipped in the past who have recently been reinstated. Unless they realise the "truth" is not the truth, it keeps haunting them and eventually they return. No matter how long they've been out.

I enjoyed that, B_Deserter!
My first crush experience - it happened during the bookstudy - I was probably about 14. I fell in love with a young JW my age - we'd known each other since we were about 5. I remember sitting there in a fairly tight sweater with my little boobs, looking at him trying to get his attention. After the study I made a beeline for him like a magnet. Our arms brushed briefly. I still remember the feeling.
Unfortunately my father noticed. I was ordered home immediately and severely reprimanded.
I was so embarrassed, I don't think I ever spoke to my beau again. Girls didn't make the first move in those days but I couldn't help myself. He moved to another congregation a couple of years later.

For faders: Is the book study meeting the first to go?
by truthseeker inany faders out there, which is the first meeting that you start to miss on a regular basis?.
for me, it is the bookstudy - haven't been in weeks, no one calls, says a word.. so glad not to be reading the revelation book anymore.. from reports i have heard, the book study is the least supported meetings of all five..

Definitely. The bookstudy is where you get the personal attention. After that, start leaving after the "public" talk (soon to be cut to half an hour), then start missing the TMS and SM. Bingo - soon you will be out and forgotten.
Another tip - go to another congregation's meeting (public talk) a couple of times. Then you can tell your elders if you are missing, you will be in another hall.

Just talked to Witnesses at my door for Hour about Watchtower Child Abuse
by flipper init happened again like in july when i talked to an elder and his wife about child abuse, but this time i got a hold of rank and file members who fortunately i was able to play like a fiddle as they had no idea what they were up against here.
so brother middle age ex-hippie convert ( as he told me later ) and sister middle age hair in a bun offered me the awake on death or our view of death.
i graciously accepted gaining their trust saying yes, i had close loved ones who had died over the years but didn't know if i believed in a resurrection or hereafter.

Wow, Mr Flipper, you did a great job. Often when given the opportunity we are stumped for words (well at least I am), but it looks like you were well prepared. Imagine when they meet the rest of the group they will all be talking about it - so hopefully at least some of them will investigate further.

Seeing you love numbers - you can go to the statistics section of the WTS website - they still have the old 2006 stats up. Download those into an excel spreadsheet.
When they have the 2007 numbers up, you'll be able to compare with 2006 by country more easily. You can do all lots of interesting calculations once you have the figures in a spreadsheet.
The annoying part about their website stats - they only report peak publisher numbers. We all know that's a load of BS. Somehow the August figures are always a lot higher than other months - so peak numbers will always look much better than reality.
