What is missing from this "Biblical Library"?
Rationality
recently i have noticed a difference in peoples attitude towards others.
i remember the day when others would open the door for you or smile when they look at you.
i remember the day when you were merging onto traffic and people would let you in.
I've had kind of a strange experience with this. I used to notice a lot of rudeness and discourtesy. However, in the past year or so, I have been working really hard in trying to be more, kind, courteous, and polite in public (opening doors, letting cars pull out ahead of me, etc.) It seems that since making these personal changes, people have gotten nicer. I seem to notice people being more courteous to me out in public. But, this has just been my own personal experience; and may not mean much.

pretty interesting, i thought i'd show ya's..
Hello Arthur - was it discussed that the WT attracts people already suffering mental illnesses too? It's much easier to indoctrinate those who are already at a low point.
I don't remember. Actually, I don't think that the previous thread cited any kind of research papers or articles, but was merely a commentary based upon anecdotal evidence. When a few people protested the thread, I believe that someone posted the very article that is linked above. I've never seen any research that indicates that the mentally ill are more prone to join the JWs. But, the research which has shown the adverse psychological effects of mind control indoctrination; is well established.
the wts claims that it is the true christian religion but it obviously isn't, it is a heartless business more than anything else.
but how do imagine the true religion to be?
it obviously should be very spiritual but how exactly is this to be manifested in its life?
The WTS claims that it is the true Christian religion but it obviously isn't, it is a heartless business
In a previous thread, I stated that the JW religion is a sickening hybrid of first century Judaism and nineteenth century Adventism. JWs calling themselves "True Christianity" is like calling Baghdad the "ideal tourist destination".
The ideal Christian church ( in my opinion ) would be a church that focussed exclusively on the New Testament, with empahsis on the teachings of Jesus. Instead of getting mired down in Old Testament trivialities and minutia, it would focus on the message of Christ in terms of engaging with the world with unconditional love and benevolence.
Oh, and by the way; it sure as hell wouldn't get into the flim-flam business of publishing books and periodicals. Leave that to companies like Harper-Collins.

There was a thread that was similar to this a couple of months ago. It started a heated debate because of a few on this site who don't beieve that there is any correlation between the WTS, and Witnesses mental health. I agreed that blaming the WTS for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is misguided. However, I stood by my position that the WTS's use of mind control indoctrination, as well as shunning policies does indeed contribute to hightened levels of depression and anxiety.
do you use it anymore?
do you care?
do you cringe when you hear it?
I've posted this before but, under the circumstances, it's worth another look.
Ian,
Thanks for posting that info. I have come across a few of those statements in my own research, but I was unfamiliar with most of the info. Where did you find it? Do you recommend any particular books or scholars?
it must be white smoke time shortly at brooklyn , following the death of 2 members in the last year.. by all accounts , there can only be 7 active members....... herd (71 years old) , jackson (51) , lett (57) , losch (63) , morris (56) , pierce (71) and splane (62).. the other 3 are all very aged.
barber (101) is confined to bed , jaracz is in his eighties and (allegedly) has heart trouble and a friend who met jack barr (now 93 years old) in the london bethel this year reckoned that this would be the last time he would be travelling over to the uk as he is very , very frail now.. with new, "grafted in" anointed ones very thin on the ground (and most regarded as certifiable by the r & f) , it is increasingly difficult for the gb to constantly appoint credible new members every few years.
for years now , the wts has increasingly been talking up the growing influence the non-anointed ones (nethinim , "chieftain class etc) are having in wts affairs - is it now the time for "new light"?

I don't think many of us ex-JWs give a damn whether members of the GB claim to be annointed or not. It would still be the same ideology enforced within the same organization. Business as usual. However, it could begin to dampen the aura of mysticism that surrounds the GB in the minds of the rank & file. The fact that the GB members are "annointed" makes them worthy of an almost worshipful honor; which must never be questioned.
If members are not annointed, that means that they are not part of the Faithful & Discreet Slave Class. How do you honor the instructions of the "Faithful Slave" when it consists of men who are not really members of the "Faithful Slave"? This creates a slippery slope. But, as we have seen from the past, no slope is too slippery for the WTS; when they can always reach into their rhetorical bag of tricks known as "New Light".
i've been attending an independent church were the women wave flags, play realy loud live music, speak in tongues (not me) and alot of other thingsi never saw in kh.
it realy feels weird, but have closer friendships than in kh.
The bloke started speaking in tongues was waiving his arms in the air and swinging backward on his chair as he spoke.
That stuff would have creeped me out. Were you able to identify any of the languages? (sometimes you can vaguely tell if a person is speaking French, Russian, or Chinese for example)
i am 32 weeks pregnant and it is 3:30 in the morning and i can;t sleep because no matter what position i am in, either my back hurts or my legs go numb.
i have heartburn raging like a wild beast with seven horns upon its head.
my fingers look and feel like sausages, my feet are burning up and two sizes bigger than normal and i still have 8 weeks to go.
Yes, I feel sorry for myself.
Well, I'd say you're certainly entitled to some self-pity now and then. I don't know how you ladies do it, I would hate to have to go through all of that. So, you have my sympathy.

I have never known anyone personally.
But, I also have a question to all of you here. Did any of you hear the following story or "experience" while a JW:
A person from a remote country goes to a church in the U.S. (or other Western country) where the people speak in tongues. This person just happens to understand one of the languages that is being spoken in tongues. This person reports that what the people are saying (in the remote language) is utterly filthy, disgusting, and vulgar. This supposedly proved that the demons were behind the speaking in tongues. I remember hearing this "experience" many times in the JW circles. I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard of this.
