OK, probably too vague of a question, but is there any logic to the JWs making this scripture and Hebrews 1 symbolic, but some of their other 'forever earth' scriptures literal.....

How do the Jehovah's Witnesses explain Isaiah 51:6?
by insearchoftruth inhow do the jehovah's witnesses explain isaiah 51:6 with respect to the paradise earth doctrine?
1 listen to me, you people who are pursuing after righteousness, you who are seeking to find jehovah.
look to the rock from which you were hewn out, and to the hollow of the pit from which you were dug out.

And how does the 'live forever on paradise earth' belief stand up to the statement "and its inhabitants themselves will die like a mere gnat."
So this is another case where they rely on metaphor?!?!

How do the Jehovah's Witnesses explain Isaiah 51:6 with respect to the paradise earth doctrine?
1 “Listen to me, YOU people who are pursuing after righteousness, YOU who are seeking to find Jehovah. Look to the rock from which YOU were hewn out, and to the hollow of the pit from which YOU were dug out. 2 Look to Abraham YOUR father and to Sarah who gradually brought YOU forth with childbirth pains. For he was one when I called him, and I proceeded to bless him and to make him many. 3 For Jehovah will certainly comfort Zion. He will for certain comfort all her devastated places, and he will make her wilderness like E´den and her desert plain like the garden of Jehovah. Exultation and rejoicing themselves will be found in her, thanksgiving and the voice of melody.
4 “Pay attention to me, O my people; and you national group of mine, to me give ear. For from me a law itself will go forth, and my judicial decision I shall cause to repose even as a light to the peoples. 5 My righteousness is near. My salvation will certainly go forth, and my own arms will judge even the peoples. In me the islands themselves will hope, and for my arm they will wait.
6 “Raise YOUR eyes to the heavens themselves, and look at the earth beneath. For the very heavens must be dispersed in fragments just like smoke, and like a garment the earth itself will wear out, and its inhabitants themselves will die like a mere gnat. But as for my salvation, it will prove to be even to time indefinite, and my own righteousness will not be shattered.
7 “Listen to me, YOU the ones knowing righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. Do not be afraid of the reproach of mortal men, and do not be struck with terror just because of their abusive words. 8 For the moth will eat them up just as if a garment, and the clothes moth will eat them up just as if wool. But as for my righteousness, it will prove to be even to time indefinite, and my salvation to unnumbered generations.”

I finally said it...I don't like jw's
by kzjw ini'm vacation and watched as my wife headed out for her piosneering this past monday...i was pissed, because i'm here, but she'd rather be out there, hawking the wares of the borg as a non-paid employee.
i stewed in the house for 3-4 hours, angry that i took vows with this woman, but she essentially is forsaking those vows for her "friends", when she knows i don't care for it.
well the tolerance finally wore off!

My faith beats all religions because it is deeply rooted in my personal saviour, Jesus who died for my sins on Calvary (whether by cross or stake is irrelevant). and according to John 14:6 he is my only path to our Heavenly Father (God, Jehovah, Yaweh). It doesn't matter what you call Him as long as you call Him!
So well stated.....it is not about the organization, the building, the books, the ceremonies, the liturgy, it is faith that matters.....

Interesting explanation of the tax system
by purplesofa ininteresting explanation of the tax system from a economics professor.. .
suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten.
if they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like.

Yes the system is quite complex, but as good of a simplistic view as I have seen.

Successful JW/Non-JW Relationships... How do you make it work?
by cognac ini was thinking we could talk about what works for couples who have good jw/non-jw relationships.
maybe we could get ideas from eachother to help improve ourselves and our relationships!.
i'll start.

I know that is one thing I really need to do is build up my friend network again....I have a lot of acquaintences, but not really any extremely strong friends any more. Going to join a golf league here at work next spring and may find a book group or something else to get involved in, if she is going to want her 'jw time', I need to get my time as well.
I think, regardless how hard it is going to be, that tolerance is going to be a huge step forward, but I also think in our case with no children of our own, we need to keep it that way, I do not want to get in the midst of that issue.

Yes, it is not an easy path to follow, but I think a big decision is the issue of children. As my wife is studying again, I will discuss the topic of children with her and we need to be able to not have one...we have a 15 year old from her first marriage, it would not be right to bring a child into the midst of this turmoil.
We do have some JW relatives, but they are not in the area which helps matters a lot, she has no affinity to spend time with the JWs yet, except for the scheduled time and it amazes me she really does not know a lot about the JWs.....
Mutual respect is very huge, and I know what you mean jgnat, she is the one that often does not respect mine, comments on the Trinity, false religions and even making negative comments about my preparation to vote.....
I think a logical defense is also quite important....I try very hard not to speak off the cuff when she asks me a question, and I have also gotten a lot better about asking questions of her that I know are just going to put her on the defensive.
How are your spouses around the house, do they come home from JW activities in a sort of haughty mood like they are so special that they have the truth, or are they able to the 'authentic self' around the house...
How do you handle issues like holidays, I have a confirmation cross that I have hanging and I know it bothers her, plus displaying the flag. Also, are windchimes still a no-no?

Can I be a Jehovah's Witness and not agree with the 1914 doctrine? I mean, I really love Jehovah God and Jesus! I read my bible and pray!
I just don't agree with 1914 ... still, can I be a JW?
Good point Sacalton, one has to adhere to ALL the doctrine...no deviation whatsoever.....blood, disfellowshipping, 1914, 1919 selection as the 'true religion', smoking, door to door, five meetings, dedicating oneself to an ORGANIZATION at baptism, no organ transplants (whoops, that has changed), no birthday celebrations, no holidays, no karate........ Oh, I am not exactly right with blood, I can take blood fractions which require multiple people to donate blood (is this donated blood spilled on the ground...isn't that what is required) (or from cattle (hemopure)) but I can not donate blood myself.

The Reasoning Book is Inspired
by Thirdson inthat is what 2 jw ladies who came to my door recently told me..
to start at the beginning, periodically, these ladies have called and spoken to mrs thirdson but always on a week day.
mrs thirdson is always very polite and has accepted the mags saying that i might be interested in reading them but making it clear that we are christians and not interested in joining their religion.

From Reasoning:
To what do all these events of the "last days" point?
Luke 21:31, 32: "When you see these things occurring, know that the kingdom of God is near [that is, the time when it will destroy the present wicked world and itself take full charge of earth's affairs]. Truly I say to you, This generation will by no means pass away until all things occur." (The generation that was alive at the beginning of fulfillment in 1914 is now well along in years. The time remaining must be very short. World conditions give every indication this must be the case.)
