The Solon Association!
by Atlantis indo you remember this?-(credit goes to farkel)-http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/scandals/77218/1/russell-the-man-russell the liar .
charles t. russell lied several times in court during his divorce proceedings.
he did this to try to hide from the fact he had yet another business enterprise going right there at watch tower headquarters!

Wife wants me to read Secret of Family Happiness, any suggestions?
by insearchoftruth inhello, have been on this board for a few years, and now my wife is asking me to read the subject book with her.
.
it seems pretty 'vanilla' in my scan through it, seems to lift up the male headship issue a few times and of course the cure to all ill is to 'attend christian meetings'.. am still working to fully open her eyes, anything in here i can use that may help, any conflicts with current doctrine i could possibly point out??.

My wife asked what chapter we should read, so suggested eleven. Think she is surprised I had even looked at the TOC. I don't think she realizes the present extent of the headship and I know she does not know about some of the upcoming studies making it even more apparent. Any suggestions on open ended questions I should ask?

Blondie Rocks!!!
by snowbird inshe provided a scan of the 2-1-77 watchtower that gave instructions to have the wt study paragraphs read first, then the questions propounded.. prior to that, the questions were asked first, then paragraphs were read.. i attended my first kh meeting in 1973; i was quite perplexed by the study method because i could see that the magazine was given preference over the bible.. thanks, blondie!

'Separate the wheat from the chaff' in 2011
by Gorbatchov inthe april 2011 pioneer action of 30 hours is a kind of 'separate the wheat from the chaff'.. think about it: 40 percent of our congregation is pioneering.
the other half of the congregation has something to explain.... i don't report hours for years.
although i'm not "too sensitive" it feels like "standing fully outside the group".

I would not be the least bit surprised if at some time in the future the WTS pulled back and pretty much just kept the hardliners, those who when told by the WTS to do something will blindly follow and just go do.
Have not read much about it as of late, but seems like a WT compound is all but in the works in upstate NY as the WTS is slowly leaving Brooklyn. The model of making money distribution of magazines really does not seem to be working like it once was, very few converts and the folks that are JWs are for the most part born ins, so demographically not all that well off.
It may just be a cull, if you can not give the organization 30 hours in a month why should the organization provide anything to you.....

"Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus", you can suggest she search it in the Watchtower Library to see if it is mentioned there (which it is, in a positive way. The article that mentions it actually uses the information in the book as the basis for the article).
Good idea Pirata, it would be an opening of the door to bring in information not written by a writing committee ruled by the GB.
I have skimmed through much of the book and read chapter 11 as suggested by jgnat in an earlier post and I really do not understand why the study conductor would suggest this book for a study to read with an 'unbelieving' husband. I had spoken with the study conductor's husband in the past (who is an elder) and I know they both realize I know a lot more about the JWs history and doctrine than they feel comfortable with.
It appears that the present 'study' is a read of the family happiness book, they are on chapter 2 where it starts to discuss agape love.

I have tried to read some of the subject book and I truly am amazed at how some women can read this and not really question it. I like the suggestion of a parallel book read with her, but when I floated the idea in the past she was in jw mode and said that the secret book was bible based and others are based on the current system. Hoping she gets beyond that soon but who really knows.
I think I will go ahead and read with her because right now many of the things the book places on the wife are things she does not follow through with and maybe discussions of these items and why her actions are not 'going against the bible' but are going against the GB would be good.
One other piece I am wondering if I can use is the upcoming ( think from July wt) that Flipper has posted on where the insider edition is pretty specific on what a woman's place is, maybe not let her know I know about the article, but I think I can get her to disagree with the points of the study, which if she ever ends up reading it she would either think she is in disagreement with the bible, since the bible and the wt are essentially one and the same, or realize that the gb/wt go beyond the bible.

May 15th WT - Wives Should be Obedient, Submissive & Not Disagree
by flipper inonce again we received the may 15th " witness only " wt from our lurking jw friend.
even though i've been out for over 7 years and haven't attended in that long - i never cease to be amazed at the arrogance of this patriarchal man pleasing wt society in it's dismissive attitude towards women .
it's horrible.

What amazes me is the patriarchal structure even carries to an "unbelieving" husband!

Is there a new "full court press" to bring back "lost ones"?
by tenyearsafter ini ask the question because all of a sudden i am getting bombarded by my mother and other family members to "take my wife's hand and run back to jehovah before it is too late"!!
i am getting e-mail with screen shots of the un website (http://www.un.org/en/peace) stating "peace and security", being told that this could likely be the last memorial celebrated and that the door to the ark will be closing soon.
has anyone else been seeing an up-tick in these "prodigal son" appeals from jw friends and family?

The jws are bugging my wife again and really pushing her for regular meeting attendance, but what I am finding strange is my wife is not talking about the end being 'on the doorstep' but using words like 'we are still not ready for the end' and there is still some time for this system. In past times she was worried about how close we are.....but yes, I do see an uptick in the activity, but some of that may just be due to the April push, plus always the memorial stuff.

Flipper, I really am impressed at the way you take the time to reply to everyone!!! Very appreciated to be able to read your thoughts on what other folks post!
Thanks for the advance information on an upcoming study article. I guess the present campaign is drawing my wife back in to a study, I think she will always be a back and forth study, does not really know what she wants.
I am going to be very interesting to see her reaction to this information, she is trying to get me to read the family happiness book with her, I have paged through it and it seems pretty vanilla except for the 'attend christian meetings' advice. What amazes me when I skim it is how incredibly patriarchal the WTS is, even towards those who are considered as unbelievers, as long as it is not a spiritual matter, the man sets the rules, and what amazed me even more is that in the case of raising a child, the unbelieving mate can still make the 'spiritual' decision.
The 'family happiness' book is I believe from the 90s, maybe even older so I was wondering if the WTS would be softening its stance in order to appease the woman who make up the majority of the membership, it sure does not seem that way at all.
Have not posted lately, but I lurk and read almost all that comments on doctrine, most interested in the changes in doctrine that are always just around the corner.
Thanks again for a great post!!!
