stillA,
Thanks for the post, am very interested to hear more about this! It amazes me when one does some searching how many different 'religions' are out there that claim to be the only religion.
so i was talking to a friend of mine today, who was raised a protestant but it is some fanatical protestant group that is exactly like jehovah's wittnesses.
her religion has basically the same teachings : the paradise, disfellowshipping, marrying "only in the lord" , no college, submissive women; the whole bit!
she was even raised around the same terms like us: holy spirit instead of ghost, the "older ones", worldy, bad association, elders,

next week i'm going to speak with a large group of people about the jehovah's witnesses and one or two of their teachings.
i don't have time to discuss all of their bizarre beliefs so i'd like to ask your opinions on which subjects to use.
what would you consider to be the one most outrageous teachings of the watchtower you would chose?
The one that gets me is the annointed class being the mediator for the great crowd, especially since the bible directly says Jesus is the mediator for all!!
for my job, i need to come up with a couple dozen drink ideas for spring/summer.
i need some fruity, tropical type shyte.
i have quite a few that i've concocted myself, but being mainly a beer/whiskey sort of fella, my imagination is running a little thin when it comes to the frooty dpt.. any ideas?
Chimene, how does one make a kahlua coloda??
everything, when i was growing up was connected to "demonism".
handwriting analysis was borderline.
wind chimes would bring the demons right to your porch!
My stepson may be about to lose his yu-gi-oh cards if his grandparents catch him, or if mom becomes a jw at some time?!?!?
i have found a lot of people no longer believe in god or jesus since leaving the organization.. im very shocked at this.
if you dont believe, can you tell me what brought to that conclusion?.
i was told to look at the thread that one of the members in this forum has created, they are very interesting, but i wanted to get a some feed back from different individuals.. thanks!
Back at you Chimene, have a great weekend as well, thanks for the support and ideas!! Cheers!!!
i will consider this my first act of spiritual freedom.
i bought myself a celtic cross, i will admit i picked one out that i hope isn't recognizable to my parents.
i know it is pathetic to be 31 and still afraid of what they think but i am not ready to lose them.
What still boggles my mind about the wt is how they feel a cross is worshipped. I wear one (given to me by my wife whose family is jw and she is studying now) to remember the greatest sacrifice and remind me of Jesus, and that is all. When things are tough, I may find myself pinching it, but it is a constant reminder to me.
The cross you have is beautiful, but any cross worn as a reminder is!!!

And after a long week of work, with nothing planned for tomorrow, time for one of those beers that God giveth!

I am not so sure of a genetic component, but I know for sure it is dependent very heavily on upbringing. If something is all one has ever known, that becomes their paradigm, but that is no different than work where one often hears 'that's the way it's always been'.
People have to learn to challenge not only themselves but also others and really never be satisfied with the status quo, because that is the only way that someone can truly improve and get better.
my dear fellow sojourners,.
i am in deep repose today.
as free as i feel from the organization, there is still one tiny veil yet to be lifted.
Brigid,
Best of luck with your decision. You seem like a wonderful person and add a lot to this forum and what ever you decide to do I wish you the best.
Though not in the same situation as you, I will have a crossroads in the future if my wife decides to become an active jw rather than just a very passive fringe jw, because I have problems with the theology, but have major issues with the dishonesty of the organization.
I wish I could offer better advice, but you shall be in my prayers and I know whatever you decide to do, the choice shall be correct!

this is a recent article in the awake 4/06 issue.
its funny because my husband and i were just discussing this yesterday.
i was having misgivings as to whether or not wearing a cross is bad.
Firstly, welcome to the discussion group Amazing Grace, have only been here a short time and the help and support has been amazing. Great research and information Leoleia, I am already looking forward to the thread that you linked in your writeup.
It amazes me the selectivity of the wt, I am amazed that the awake a few months ago did not have an article on watching the Olympics since the original intent of them was to worship the greek gods.
