I found this post very interesting. My husband and I both are non-practicing Catholics - never bought into the Catholic Church's rules even when I was a child - but to each their own. We both think Cardinal Law should resign, actually we think he should be prosecuted also. We both feel he is a phoney, not to mention other things. By allowing the child molestation to go on makes him just as guilty as the other priests who committed the act. The whole thing makes me sick. The only way he can be removed from his status is for the Pope to do so.

DO JW'S ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN TO GO ON CLASS TRIPS?
by Darkhorse inhi, have a question (i am not a jw).
is it unusual for a jw to allow their children to go on school class trips to washington d.c.?
because of their beliefs, i would think going to d.c. on a class trip would be a no-no.

Thanks for your responses, which were very interesting responses. This trip was definitely an overnight trip and the child was very early teen's. I have a feeling the parents did not care what the "others" thought.

Mbst, I am really curious - can you answer this question?
You stated you were a JW in good standing and that you truly believe in your religion. You would not leave because you would be considered dead. If this indeed is the case, why are you asking questions and posting other communications on an Ex-JW website? According to what I have researched about the JW's, this site is considered an apostate site, correct? And if you are caught reading apostate material and dealing with apostates, you could be df'd.
What is the reason for posting to this site and asking questions from ex-JW's (and occasionally you get a worldly person thrown in like me)? This really is puzzling me? Is it because you know deep down inside you cannot ask JW's questions regarding your girlfriend and situation?
What is it?

If I were in your shoes, I would like to know why a person is avoiding me - which is fair. Maybe when she is ready, she will tell you. Sometimes people need space.
Yes, your right in some aspects - she fell in love with you. However, when you fall in love with a JW, it seems you get the whole lock stock and barrel with it. So, it becomes not just you and her; but all the congregation and all the other baggage that goes with the JW religion. It is not your fault you were born into the JW's ; nor how you believe - you grew up with it. But you feel you cannot leave because of the implications of leaving; and you seem to believe in it. That's your right to do so. Which causes a very big problem. The only way out is either you leave or she joins. Your friend may be in someways like me, "some birds are not meant to be caged". You may not feel as if you are in a cage, but you have to look at the situation with an outsider's point of view.
It may be kinder to your friend to let her go. I am sure she is feeling much of the same emotions as you - it is a very sad situation and I feel bad for the both of you.

Hi Dan. Glad to see you are feeling a bit better. I have never been a JW, came to this site for informational purposes. Well, I am not into organized religion myself (it's not for me) - I am a non-practicing Catholic. But everybody's needs are different. You received many good suggestions from the other folks. I think in time, you will know in your own mind when you are ready to join another religion or not - don't rush it. Go out and see the beauty in things - go hiking, fishing, sit on a park bench or by a lake and feed the birds, ride a bike; if you need the presence of others - find a group that has similar interests such as hobbies. Talk to these people. There is much out in the world, find it.

From reading your post, I take it your girl friend is a "worldly person" like me as you mentioned she was studying. Not knowing either of you, it is hard to give you a definitive reason why she may be reacting the way she is.
I can give a possible reason from my point of view. By studying with JW's she probably began to get the picture of what becoming a JW entails - a lot more than going door-to-door trying to convert people. That was my impression of JW's until I began to research the group when I found out a woman I befriended (I also am female) was associated with JW's. I still do not know the extent of her involvement, etc. When I started reading about all the regulations/restrictions placed upon a person once they were baptized, I thought "Whoaaaaa!" The bit about not associating with worldly people (we are supposed to be very bad associations and lead a doomed existance) really bothered me; then there is the "no part of the world" bit so you cannot observe holidays, the headship (JW women have no rights); the shunning really makes me sick - if you really love somebody, they should not be subjected to such heart- breaking treatment; and the list goes on and on.
She is probably scared. I know, when I found out all of the above, I was unsure if I wanted to stay friendly with the woman I know; but then again, I am not romantically involved.
Sorry, but I am just being honest

I love horses. The filly mentioned reminds me of my aged gelding (will be 20 years young in June). She sounds like a natural jumper. My gelding has a horrible scar on his right front leg where it meets into the lower part of the shoulder. When I was considering purchasing him (he was then 5 1/2) I asked how he got the scar. When he was a yearling, he jumped the paddock fence, took off down the street, and connected with an angle iron. From what the previous owner told me, the horse almost had to be put down. To this day, my horse loves to jump.
I am not a JW. Does anybody here know about what time the JW Memorial services on Thursday will be held. Bad time a work night and all. How long does a memorial service usually last?

The JW's having a memorial around the time of Easter just shows another example of hypocrisy. If they want to be "no part of the world", why do they have this Memorial - if they want to prove they are "so different and special", they should not have it at all - and especially around the time all the other religions are observing Easter. I do not care if they call it the Memorial, they are still observing something around the time all of the other religions are (that the JW's do not want to be the same as oh noooooo.......).
I sure do not see the logic in that.

Do JW's Support and Shield Pedophiles?
by silentlambs ini had a conversaton with a friend in the "know" today.
it brings ever clearer the disfunction of jehovah's witnesses and how they treat child molesters.
in my local congregation the individual who admitted molesting children seems to be held in high esteem.

I am wondering why the JW peophile cases are receiving so little televised publicity; but the issues of the Catholic Priest pedophiles in Massachusette is aired several times daily on the local news and radiostations?
