after 26 years of indulging, i've finally tried to quit smoking.

I quit smoking 246 days ago, I know it is not an easy thing to do. I had been smoking for 34 years and have tried many times to quit. This is the last time for me, and I will never go back to smoking.

i noticed that most families do have pets.
for people living alone, a pet is a good companion.
Yes, pets have always meant very much to me.
I have one cat (she's 11 & my shadow) and a horse (my best bud). I know how it feels to lose a beloved pet. A few months ago, I had to put my other cat to sleep, I am starting to get over it now. Maybe one day I will get another cat.

Hi Minimus. I'm one of the resident "worldly folks" (non-practicing Catholic). Interesting question you ask.
When I was younger I did believe in "God" only because through going to CCD and Church - it was stated there was a being called God. As I grew older, I began to have mixed emotions of whether or not God existed. I do not feel "empty inside" because of my unsureness. My husband (also a non-practicing Catholic) and I have had many conversations regarding the existance of God - he believes in God and also wants to very much believe that when we die, we will all be reunited one day in a nicer place.
We all were created somehow, how and by who or what, I am unsure.
is it love, sex, politics, religion???..........what?????

Well ClassAvenger. To JW's, in order to be in the "IN' crowd, you have to be a JW. Nothing else will do. I am a worldy person and from what I gather, to JW's evil and lead a doomed existance. I too question how in the h*LL, they came up with all of their notations and rules and regulations. I also have befriened a JW who is fading out - I hope the elders forget about her and do not make any of those "sheparding calls" I have been reading about.

The JW's from the cong down the street from me had not done door-to-door work in quite a while about 10 years at least (I am not a JW). Instead, they would mail a "handwritten" letter inviting us to their services and inquired about a "free bible study".
When I saw the post about the door to door work I remembered the Saturday after Xmas. I had come home from the gym and was taking a shower (it was around 11:00 am). While I was in the shower, I could hear the door bell ringing, and I said to myself, "Who the h*a@ is this?" I happened to be finishing up so I looked outside my upstairs window and saw a mini-van parked at the end of my driveway with a few people in it. Walking down the driveway away from my house was two women in flowery, long dresses. I thought, "Hmmm, looks like JW's to me, but they haven't come around in a long time." Also, they had a little girl walking between them, she was also dressed in a flowery dress. I watched them drive to the house next door, the women and the little girl got out and walked down the driveway. The neighbor must have told them "Not interested (they are Catholic)", because the women left very soon.
When I got dressed and went down stairs, I looked on my front porch. Yep, it was JW's - they had left their magazine, and a schedule of their public services. What threw me at first was the little girl (she couldn't have been much older than two or three). I never have seen the JW's go door to door with a kid - unless they thought if they had a young child, the home owner would be more sympathetic and would let them in to do their speil (it is very cold here in New England).
Guess they are getting more desperate if they are using kids for bait.

I was married to a guy like that (notice the "was") 30 years ago. He cheated on me and beat me up badly, then he would become the sweetest person who promised me he would never do it again - yeah right, the cheating and the beating would start all over again. You do not hit somebody that you love. Also your trust is gone, you have nothing left.
I thought I could never leave my ex either, but I did, and made a new very happy life for myself and have a wonderful 2nd husband.
Get rid of him before he destroys or kills you. Life is too short.

I just finished watching a live TV broadcast from Boston (I work about 20 miles outside Boston) in which one of the attorneys for the victims was speaking. A few of the victims also spoke, a father and son, both molested by priests.
The attorney who was heading the broadcast was highlighting some of the new cases that will be brought forth. The documents regarding the newer cases included communications from Bernard Law in the early 90's (92, 94). It made me sick and sad. From what was said there are now about 400 cases.
I have seen so many different things in my life time - the first space ship, the assassination of President Kennedy, invention of the color TV, the final desegregation of schools in Mississippi, and now the beginning of change in the Catholic Church.
Maybe with this new beginning, the WTS will change also and stop protecting their pedophiles and stop shunning people just because their dare to have a different point of view.
I know all the JW's cannot be alike and that many of them act the way they do because they are afraid of being treated like the living dead. I have a very sweet JW friend who is doing the fade. This is why I found this board because I was researching what the JW's were all about - I did not have a clue.
Why can't all the JW's who are against the WT stand together like the Catholic abuse victims did and say, "We won't take this anymore!" ? I know it's much more complex, but there has to be more JW's that do not agree with what is going on in their religion that the ones that agree entirely with it. Most of you folks were JW's at one point in time or are doing the fade like my friend and there must be plenty more out there.

That is why my husband and I told the priest to stick it regarding paying for annulments. Especially in my case in which I married outside the church. That marriage is not recognized by the Catholic Church, which was my issue. If it was not recognized, why should I pay for something to be "cancelled out" that in the eyes of the Church, never happened. I know of other people "who got taken". Strange, that same priest that gave us those answers was removed from another church six months ago because there were child molestation complaints placed against him.

Comforter, the only "aggressive" policy I see with the JW's (sounds like you probably are one) is aggressively pursuing all the victims who dare to come forward for help, aggressively making sure that everbody else in the congregation shuns the victims and aggressively df'ing them.
