Give me a break. JW's have to "qualify" to go to some conventions also? What's the reasoning / logic for that rule? Do they want the "best representation" they can get? Yeah, right.

Are you good enoughto attend?
by eyeslice inare you good enough to attend an international 2003 district conventions?.
other threads have brought up the subject of the planned 2003 district conventions ( http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=34494&site=3 ), but do you qualify to attend a convention in another land?.
according to the official letter, no one is to make private travel arrangements but must go through the official channels.

Nope, not a good idea. Things can become too complicated if things get a little too cozy or if the relationship ends. There is no such thing as "confidential" - you would be surprised what other people can find out.
The company I work (most large corporations have) for has guidelines regarding interwork relationships. Depending upon both parties' positions, the company will request that one if not both parties are transferred to different departments, locations or one party is requested to resign.
It is always nice to have your own space and your own thing.

Watchtower Aug 1st gives out conflicting signals
by ozziepost inheard the expression "having a bet each way"?
you know how it goes, someone doesn't want to give offense or get "offside" with readers, colleagues etc so they try and agree with two conflicting arguments simultaneously.
the watchtower wouldn't do that, would it?

This is very interesting - I am of the "worldly class". I have a friend who has been involved with the JW (do not know the status - think my friend is fading away and not very strong in the faith - from what I have learned from this site and others, my friend does have some social interaction issues that seem characteristic with those that have been involved with JW's). All the children in the family are very heavily involved in school and town sports (they even are on travel teams). These teams have worldly players and my friend interacts with the worldly parents at team meetings, etc.
Wonder what the elders and congregation think about that? Are there any liberal JW's/congregations? Just curious?

My B/F told me he's a J/W after months of dating!
by Funky_Diva_53_2000 inhi, i'm 17 and i've just recently become a member of this website and i want you to know what has happened to me over the past months.back in sep/oct 2001 i started chatting to a 20 year old bloke via the internet and we developed a great friendship over the net.we would talk online for ages, text and phone each other loads,we sent each other photos of ourselves and he would often put his webcam on for me to see.before i knew it he played a great part in my everyday life...and i spent so much time chatting to him that my college work suffered a lot & i wasn't doing my coursework (i eventually got told to leave as i hadn't done loads of the assignments and stuff & had fallen behind).
after about 6 months we arranged to meet up (i made sure my parents were at home coz i know it's dodgy to meet people from the internet).anyway,he came round my house one evening in march and we got along soo well...he lives quite locally too which was good.our friendship then grew into a relationship and we started dating and going out together,i was sooo happy and i fell for him in a massive way & he said he felt the same way too.to me,he was a girls dream come true...he was kind,caring,fit,good-looking & gentle and i loved him to bits!,i still do,and i thought we'd be together forever.
something that i did find a bit strange though was i hadn't met his family yet or heard my boyfriend talk much about them.i would question him about his family but he seemed to get a bit funny about it and when i mentioned about meeting his family he said something along the lines of ''they're a bit strange, you might not like them'' (or something like that anyway).that got me thinking and i though prehaps they lived in a run-down place or something,or they wern't very nice people and i thought my b/f could be ashamed to let me meet them.i thought to myself to give him time & he'll see that i'm an understanding & nice person and hoped that he would soon come out and tell me what the problem was (thinking it was about what i've just mentioned).

Funky Diva, a relationship which started on the basis of deception is no good. There are many other fish in the sea (eventhough at this point in time you do not think so) - you are only 17 and have much living to do. Go out and do it, life is too short.

by Darkhorse inon my way into work this a.m. one of our local kh's (i am not a jw) off the main road i travel to go to work.
it was about 6:00 am, and as i was passing by the kh parking lot, i noticed 3 ladies around one car.
it looked like "the sisters" were armed and ready to go on a door-to-door witnessing patrol.

Hi, they were JW's for sure. Some would carry both and they would be in cars.

Yes, I have always been pretty observant. The parking lot is very close to the road, and the ladies happened to be parked up by the road; also I was behind a real slow poke (the person was driving about 15 mph and I was in a no passing zone).
No I am not a JW; however the JW's tend to stand out like sore thumbs (I can spot them a mile off) - the guys are always in suits with either backpacks or briefcases, the women are always in dresses and heels with book bags, at any rate they all look as uncomfortable as hell. They always seem travel while walking in groups of two or three.
The reason I seem to know a bit more about the JW is because I befriended a JW who is fading away - I wanted to learn more about them in order to try to understand where my friend is coming from. I sure have received an education.....
I never had the chance to deal with the JW's when they came door-to-door at my house - my husband was the lucky one. He would get the usual opening statement about isn't it awful how things in the world are going so badly. Hubby would end up telling them he was not interested in their religion, we do our own thing. You are right, once he said that, away they went. They would leave one of the magazines. He would leave it on the table for me, jokingly saying, "I know you like to read, here is some reading material from the JW's, they are out again."
No I am not trying to get any of you to accept them - how could you after what they did to you.
It was just my imagination running away with me - offering them the ice tea and lemonade would probably get the sisters thinking, "Ahhhhhh, we have a live one here." Then I would start the questioning, I would love to see the looks on their faces - but again I am sure they would do what you had said, beat feet the other way.
Just some daydreaming on my way into work.

It looked like "the sisters" were armed and ready to go on a door-to-door witnessing patrol. They had their book bags stuffed with magazines. They really looked dated in their dressing and hair styles. The dresses were brightly flowers, down to their ankles, loose flowing and the sleeves of their dresses were raised and puffy. I don't think many people wear puffy sleeved clothing at this time. And their hair styles - the puffy, curly, mushroom looking style. I think they must have been going to breakfast first because homeowners would have been pissed if they had witnesses knocking at the doors too early. Phew, it's pretty warm today, I think the sisters are going to perspire (glisten) a bit today. I also noticed the sisters had shoes with heels - you would think they would wear footware more suitable for walking - my feet would have been killing them.
Seeing them made me chuckle and made me think of the post the Englishman has written yesterday titled "Got Given a Witness Today." I could picture him with these three ladies I just passed by.
I started imaging the sisters coming to my house. I would invite them to sit on my front porch, rest their tired feet, probably offer them either iced tea or lemonade. Then, the fun would begin - I would start to mention the Dateline show I had seen regarding the pedaphile issue, how they treat the members that do not "think" the way they are supposed to, and the way the JW think of us worldy folk. Wonder how long it would have taken them to hightail it

ROFLOL!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Mrs. Cleaver and Donna Reed!!!!! I remember reading something like that when I was in high school in the late 60's taking Home Economics - don't know what happened to me - Mrs. Cleaver I am not. My husband fends for himself.
It is true though, many of the women who were young adults by the early 50's did treat their husbands like that. My mother did to some degree. She would never think of giving my father a TV dinner (Swanson invented them - think they were out in late 50's). My sister and I got them, but oh no, not dear old dad.
What a blast from the past.

Flowers in life
by kenpodragon inwhen i was a baby i was walking along and i saw a flower.
it was all colorful and pretty so i picked it and showed it to my mother, she called it a "flower" and i held it and kept it with me until it turned brown and faded away.. as the years went by i saw many flowers and i passed many of them without notice, even stomped a few on accident as i walked threw the field to a new destination.
the years passed so fast and so many flowers were around, and yet i only took a fading glimpse at best.. then one day i was sitting in a field wondering what the universe was all about and why life was even here.

I have always loved that verse and practice it each day (especially when things seems to start moving too quickly).
I have in my office a stained glass item with a painting of flowers and a little fairy with wings sitting a leaf. Written is "Along the way... Take time to smell the Flowers...."
This was given to me over tweny years ago by a corporate auditor (her company had acquired the co. I was working for). The auditor and I became friends and she gave me the item when she found out I was going back to college at night to complete my bachelor's degree in Finance.
If you do not take time to smell the flowers and enjoy the simplest things in life - may it be just be looking at a blade of grass or seeing the light shine your friend's (or somebody else you care for eyes), one day you will find time has passed by very quickly and your life is almost over - and you begin to wondering where it all went.
