I think it's great that you want to help out your wife with the kids, but if you're so miserable going to the meetings (and truthfully, who isn't) why are you going? Just to be reinstated? Is your intention to become an active JW with a happy actively publishing JW family? Or is that your wife's wish? I can totally relate to wanting to did it for your kids, and family, etc. Trust me, but after pretending for about 12 years I told them to shove and actually DA's myself this year. What freedom, no pretending anymore. Is it not possible to take care of the children at home while she attends the meetings?

What things about "Apostates" do you feel is "controlling" as WTS?
by booker-t inone of the things that i have noticed since i have been out is that "apostates"/ex-jw's tend to try and "controll" you the same way as jw's used to do.
for example: whenever you tell an "apostate" that you are no longer one of jw's they right away asume that you want to be a "born-again" christian and try to cram the "trinity" doctrine down your throat.
also if you tell an apostate that you don't share their views on hell-fire damnation they will immediately look at you with "contempt".

By their definition, anyone who claims the beliefs of the dubs are wrong is an apostate and can be disfellowshipped
Can be disfellowsipped? Come on! They will be disfellowshipped. The TRUE meaning of apostate according the JW lingo is anyone who questions anything the WTS says. Apostacy is held over your head like a very dirty word, one that brings feelings of utter filth to a faithful JW. To them, just the thought of looking into the eyes of an "apostate" will cause God, thru his "channel" of course, bring down flashes of lightening and rain frogs, and you'll be struck with leoprosy, etc. You get the idea. Once again it's all a control issue.

Religion vs. Christ
by *jeremiah* inreligion vs. the reality of a personal relationship with christ.
the following is what i have come to believe the through bible reading:.
religion: can have outward forms that bring us into bondage to those forms.

Amen! Couldn't have put it any better myself.
Diddo.
it should be personal growth in Christ, not personal growth into a Churches ideology or doctrine.
Priceless comment. This is why I love reading posts in this forum. Honest hearted, reasonable people. Thanks for sharing with us.

God's Channel of Instruction = "trusted & loyal followers"
by yaddayadda inthe oct 15 2006 wt, main article about getting to know god, page7, under the subheading, 'identifying god's channel of instruction':
"where can we find assistance in understanding the word of truth and then in living in accord with it?
in israel of old, god provided leadership through trusted and loyal individuals in positions of responsibility.

It would fit if what they they wanted to portray was a faithful few and condemn those that question the leadership.
Typical. Always laying a guilt trip on the R&F. But I agree, it's bizarre they omitted the old "faithful and discreet" thing. Faithful and loyal could only refer to the R&F anyway. After all, they are very faithful and loyal to WBTS, but as for the GB they who are they faithful and loyal to? Themselves? Money? It certainly isn't God, and I think that if they tried to identify a small group of arrogant men as God's only direct line of communication openly and publicly in this day and age, it would probably open up a huge can of worms. What ticks me off is that to the unsuspecting interested person, things look good on the surface. The whole truth isn't exposed. Like in this article. It isn't until you actually bite the hook and get reeled in that you find out all this out. By that time it's too late, you're all ready a believer in all that crap!

For believers: Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?
by lovelylil inwhile thinking about this bible verse today taken from matthew 18, i began seeing a correlation to our time and the trend among christian churches.
there are several that i am sure we can name that make claims such as "we are the only true church" or "we are the only true christians" or even that "no one can see the truth unless they are in contact with our church to teach it".
and these ones judge others by placing everyone outside their group in "spiritual darkness".. isn't this the same thing as jesus' early disciples asking "who is the greatest in the kingdom?

I have never thought of that scripture like that, but I love it. That's exactly the scripture and reasoning I need to explain how I feel. Thanks for sharing.

BIRTHDAYS / PINATAS/ AND JW'S WT/ 22/09/03
by Latte indear all .
my mother is amazing.
she was left alone when my father died in (construction accident 1978) and all seven of us were still living at homeand the youngest was still under two!!

It absolutely drives my CRAZY that how the society delves into every aspect of everything micromanaging everyone! But Latte, you go girl! Your mom does sound amazing and you definitely have reason to celebrate her and her birth. Savor every minute of it too. My mother passed away when I was 29. Don't let anyone rain on your or your mother's parade. Remember though, the rest of your JW family is only doing what they believeis right because as you know it's been hammered into their brains over and over again. You know, deep down they really want to be there. Try and respect that aspect and try and forgive them. The whole JW thing is about control. R & F JWs are like robots. This helps me feel better thinking about how my family shuns me because I decided to DA myself.
This is a milestone that marks an occasiona with layers of depth of meaning to you all, and who knows what the situation will be for her 80th?
Couldn't agree more with this statement. Happy Birthday Latte's Mom. Lots of Hugs and Kisses to her!

Hypothetical ? for u. What if armageddon really did come...
by *jeremiah* inok, here's a hypothetical that i'm curious about.. what if armageddon really did happen?
not necessarily according to jw terms or timetable, but at some point it happens in your lifetime.
would any of you return to the jws?.

If it is true that everlasting life is a free gift from God, and cannot be earned, then does it make any difference?
Warlock
I'm with Warlock on this one. Salvation is only from God, not man nor a religion. Religion is pure speculation of imperfect human interpretation of the Bible. Be very wary of any one claiming to have an exclusive "channel of communication" to God.

To be fair, Gordon Ritchie is a really nice guy. His heart is in the right place and he tries hard to please God. I know this from several conversations I've had with him. Like most religions, he has some good ideas and some not so good ideas. Whether or not his church is the true religion is summed up in my belief that salvation belongs to God and not in man or an earthly organization to decide. After all, that would only be speculation. Faith in one religion is purely speculation as one can not be certain of anything unless God himself says so out loud in my face.
