i was driving to my scuba dive site and listening to the radio this morning, it was around 7 - 7.30. a feature on jehovah's witnesses came on highlighting recent developments and 'internal debates' on the blood transfusion issue.
kerry louderback-wood was interviewed and came across very well, very professional.
ajwrb also got a positive mention.. the whole feature was only perhaps 5 or 6 minutes but it was excellent.

Nic, what programme was it and at what time?
If you go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/progs/listenagain.shtml you should be able to find it.
It's the 'listen again' section you want on Radio 4.
Let us know.

my youngest is toying with the idea of adopting the vegan lifestyle.
she came to me at 11pm last evening with a strict list of what she wanted me to purchase for her as soon as the store opened this morning.
her enthusiasm could easily have been mistaken for "preaching".... and i'm afraid it didn't foster a very receptive spirit in me.. my main concern is her having adequate nutrition.
Scully
There is really nothing wrong with a vegan diet but coming from a teenager it may well just be a phase.
Calcium has been mentioned.
Did you know that the Chinese consume NO cow's milk or dairy products and yet have among the lowest osteoporosis rates in the world?
Dairy products simply don't present the most readily available source of calcium for humans because it is bound up with a substance called casein ( a type of glue) which needs certain digestive enzymes present in the stomach to break it down and thus release the calcium. Humans stop producing those enzymes at 3 or 4 years old. Dairy products aren't going to KILL us but they do play a part in lowering the immune system.
Greens are a VERY good source of calcium (paricularly broccolli/calbrese) as are brazil nuts, oily fish and chickpeas.
A vegan diet is hard to maintain though, with only a surface knowledge of nutrition.
Good Luck

i am 16 years old and i was raised as a jehovah's witness, but i want out.
the whole society is based on brainwashing, propaganda and greed.
my parents are so brainwashed about it that when i told her thnta i didn't want to be part of this religion anymore, she cried.
Hey there and welcome to the forum!
There is no easy solution to your situation but it sounds like you need to carry it through, for your own sake and honour.
One of the hallmarks of the JW faith is that it splits families asunder. It's a crime IMO.
Stay around here for a time and learn, learn mind-blowing, TRUE facts about the WTS and god.
You are your own person my friend....be that person and NOT someone that someone else wants you to be.
Peace and an easy mind to you

(long but please read, i need some advice..thanks) .
let me start off by telling you a little bit about me.
i'm 21 years old, my family(all except an uncle who was disfellowshiped) is dedicated to beliefs of the jehovah witness', or the 'truth'.
Welcome to the forum!
I agree with WLG. Stay aroud here for a while at least and let the scales fall from your eyes, you will learn soooooooo much.
Don't take offence but you're still young, so think before you leap with your lover. Although it sounds like he makes you really happy.
Wishing you peace and wisdom

i was looking up a couple of verses the other day in my nwt reference bible the one with larger print, footnotes, cross references, etc.
in my day i was quite a diligent student - the bible is filled with my notes and comments, and i'd already worn out another one earlier.
one of the things that i found surprising as i was reading my notes, was how often they were pointing out inconsistencies, contradictions and obvious lies in the biblical text.
IMAGINE...........No Religion Too......
Now THAT'S Paradise!

Good thread Seeker
I'm largely with Terry on this.
My experience was that i only read the bible properly when i was DFed and trying to get back. What i read shocked the socks off me, when it wasn't shrouded by WT explanations. So much truly shocking stuff in there....wow!
Reading it with clear eyes and open mind sowed seeds of doubt that grew into a hugely liberated mind. The scales have truly fallen from my eyes. The god of the OT in particular, is utterly revolting.
I sincerely do believe it was written to control the peoples minds and thus make them subservient.

zidane explains world cup head-butt
zinedine zidane has claimed repeated insults about his mother and sister spurred him to head-butt an italian in sunday's world cup final.
the french captain declared "i'm a man first" to explain his reaction but refused to repeat the "personal" remarks.
EXPLAIN THE HEADBUTT????
There is NO explanation or excuse for his behaviour. As Martin O'Neil said on the BBC commentary "That (insults) only happens once every 10 seconds in a football game". Zidane was a professional and disgraced himself, his country and the competition. I shudder to think how many kids (particularly French ones) repeated the behaviour in the school playground the following day. It saddened me more because i like the French and their gorgeous country. Won't stop me wanting to retire to the Canal Du Midi though.

ya know whatamean?
if you could go back in time, back to those days as a jw and react then as you would now knowing what you now know, what would you do differently?
it could be a particular day, or an event or something you went through.
Mine would be "F*^% Off you interferring bastards!!!!" when they came within an inch of my 3 lads.
Soooo many times i wanted to do that.
