i was reading some articles from the 1960's through the late 1970's where scientists were concerned about global cooling.
the articles talked about how the oceans would become more salty as the ice caps grew larger which would wipe out many types of marine life.
they also mentioned how this would lead to more cool/cold "high deserts" as there would be less water in the atmosphere for rain to develop from.
And don't forget Leonard Nimoy's "In Search Of..." series!

That's the hype I was talking about, Six. It was the kind of segment you'd see on 60 Minutes, too, or a PBS documentary. Then the Watchtower would selectively quote and/or bash "worldly scientists" and Armageddon was coming, so it's not something I gave much credence to then, or especially now.

I distinctly remember "the coming ice age" hype in the 70s. But we all knew better: Armageddon was coming instead!

once again our lurking jw friend sent us a copy of the june 15th " witness only " watchtower.
all i can say is that the wt society sure knows how to compartmentalize and pick and choose how they view truth and honesty.
i'll share some of these " golden nuggets " and see what you think.

He ( Jesus ) did not feel obligated to answer the question in view of their corrupt practices and faithless example .
At times, however, congregation elders may need to ask questions about personal matters in order to carry out their assigned duties. In such a case, our cooperation in speaking truth is much appreciated and is a great help.
Hence, elders need to use balance , reasonableness , and good judgment when determining if a person who has made statements that are untrue has established a pattern of deliberate , malicious lying that would require judicial action.

this year i owed money to the irs.
(the result of cashing in some investments so i could put a down-payment on my first house... i owed taxes on the "income").
i mailed off the check the other day and today i looked at my bank account online.
Elsewhere, look at the positive side: You're in your first house while so many others are losing theirs! That's a blessing and something to be proud of, congratulations.
You can still have a garden, you possess the soil now. Seeds are cheap. Kitchen scraps + grass clippings = Compost, Black Gold.
You can scavenge decent lumber to build raised beds. Some labor up front and basic maintenance thru the season.
Taxes and losses suck big time, but the government has yet to take our home-growns away.
