Three pages and I'm surprised no one mentioned this (maybe I missed it).
The second "t" in tract is not silent. It's TRACT, shortened from TRACTATE, not "track."

Books that SHOULD be movies?
by gaiagirl ini just finished reading "mammoth" by john varley.
a sci-fi thriller in which a mammoth is found frozen in northern alaska, along with the frozen bodies of a man and woman.
however, as they are uncovered, it is seen that the man is wearing a wristwatch.

Hi
by rosiegurl inmy name is rosie.
i'm 36, have 3 kids and was raised in the 'truth'.. since i was about 18 i realized that things weren't quite 'right' but stuck around mostly because my family is so much a part of it that if i left i'd have nobody.
i've been df'd 2 times...got reinstated the last time with the intention to just drift away after so that i could stay around my family and do my own thing.

Welcome, rosiegurl!
Glad to hear you and your 13 y.o. can speak openly with each other. He and his siblings will thank you some day, holidays or not.
Also glad that you can continue to have a loving relationship with your family. That your dad was willing to step down so they could take you in shows his good character and I so applaud that in an elder. He followed Christ's example, not the Society's edicts.

Hi WANTMOMBACK. This is so sad. There may be a way of handling it nicely so you and your sister don't need to cave in again.
Go. Make good use of your time there.
Ask to speak with an elder about how your mother compels you — an non-interested adult — to attend or be cut off. Ask him to show you where Jesus commanded this behavior, especially at his Memorial. He'll have to admit, you're technically not even of the "other sheep!" Ask him to explain to you (in front of mom) why she should shun you, and where this is taught in the scriptures, and how it applies in your case. You are no different than a non-interested householder, or a study who just doesn't feel like attending, and should be afforded the same respect.
Let her push and push and push. Let her do it in front of an elder, and see if he doesn't kindly "adjust" her thinking for you. The fact is, she is giving a very, very bad witness and this reflects on the whole congregation. The elders bear a responsibility in this matter just as much as your mother does.
Make a JW parent accountable for his/her selfish unChristian unscriptural actions, and s/he will usually back down from threats and emotional blackmail. (I don't mean to attack your mom, I am pointing out the nature of her actions as I interpret them from your description.) Use their own bible to do so, and involve the elders if you must.
Good luck!

booker-t asks: Any advice I could give him?
DA, DF, or fade... please just let him know we wish for his best outcome whichever path he chooses, he'll be in our thoughts, and he already has a groundswell of love and support here on JWD.

Making enough money to attend the convention
by free2beme inmy uncle, was a witness for awhile with my aunt.
they had a small business of running some hot dog stands in their town in idaho.
they made pretty good money at it and because they were mobile, location was often where people would let you.

If there was a Kentucky Fried Chicken adjacent to the convention site, would the elders complain that Colonel Sanders was enslaving the friends?
Poor guy. He should have put up a sign, "10% of every sale goes to the WTBT$," and maybe the bullies would have left him alone.

Phrases that control the mind and thinking
by Gill insome of the words that i always look out for in watchtower literature are the following:.
without doubt...... evidently...... obviously....... we can conclude from this......... can you think of more?.
a lot has to be learnt from blondie's watchtower studies and some of it is that when the wt society has no evidence for a supposition it plants one of these phrases that suggest stupidity on the part of the reader if he/she doesn't agree with what idea the watchtower society has come up with!.

One more:
Is it not wise...?
This questions the reader's intelligence and implies that they are lacking common sense if they don't follow Watchtower directives.
