All that quote says to me is that you see what you want to see...is that how you see it? If so, then what is your answer to the question?

The Origin-of-Life Foundation, Inc. The Secret $1,000,000 Prize
by Deputy Dog infrom http://www.scienceagainstevolution.org/v9i11f.htm
the secret $1,000,000 prize
one of the best kept secrets of science is the origin of life prize sponsored by the origin of life foundation, inc. when we first ran across their web site (www.lifeorigin.org), we thought that the offer of one million dollars to anyone who could propose a plausible theory for the origin of life was just a slick creationist trick for showing that the emperor had no clothes.

Ha Ha...Hooberus, such a short time that I have been here and already I chuckle when you post...
Everybody, Hooberus stalks this message board in search of former JW's that are new to their freedom so he can attempt to convert them to his own personal faith...he has never been a JW, and he is apparently quite fond of threads that have to do with something related to science as he probably fancies himself to be "science minded" and isnt quite bright enough to realize that if he wants to believe the bible he should just explain everything with a statement along the lines of "it's a miracle, God did it. Thank you Lord, now how can I conform myself to your bullshit? Oh, and thank you for sitting by idly as billions of your sons killed each other in wars, and millions of your daugthers were raped by your sons through out history. And also, thanks for sending your firstborn son to die to make up for it all...even though you could have fixed it yourself."
Hooberus, like you and I have already talked about, evolution, as you insist on broadly defining it, itself is not the issue. The big bang, pertaining to cosmology, the age of the universe, the age of the Earth, all have nothing to do with the supposed religious debate between evolution and creation. Evolution could have just as easily been the mechanism that God used for any of the aforementioned. What you dont like is biological evolution. That is the issue that actually conflicts with your narrow minded literal interpretation of the beginning of the book of Genesis. And so, as was correctly pointed out, Abiogenisis has nothing to do with biological evolution. To refresh your poor memory regarding our previos conversation, biological evolution is the " Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species ." Now, if Abiogenisis is the absolute very beginning of the sequence, and has nothing to do with the successive generations, by definition it can have nothing to do with biolocical evolution. So therefore, your entire point was worthless. And I'll remind you, no link you post to another website means that you are (a) correct, and (b) understand a single thing you have posted...

La Capra,
You are right, and I didnt state that well, and I realized on my hour long drive to work that someone was going to call me on it. And you dont need to justify correcting me! If I was wrong, I was wrong! :)
In my own defense though I will say it is one of those instances, which hopefully I am not alone in having, where I knew what I meant and chose my words poorly!

Thank you for the compliment! You know, I noticed one thing. Once I started thinking outside that box, I never closed my mind back into it!
FunkyDerek, that was a thought provoking post, which I, in my short time here, have come to expect from you. A question I have, based on your post, is this. With the definition of the universe that you give, can there really be anything that is truly "supernatural"? I know you avoided delving into alot of the questions that automatically would help me figure that our for myself (like God being around at the beginning of said universe and whatnot), and perhaps our own definitions of the words are different, rendering my post meaningless, but if everything living, including lifeforms that are superior to us, is a product of nature, could we then still consider it supernatural? And I am not trying to find fault with your post, I am just looking for an area that I may be able to expand my own perspective.
Thanks.

Watchtower comments that were extremely lame!!!!!
by free2beme ini always remember a point to the watchtower study, was that your comments should be about something that meant something to you or something you learned from the experience.
well, did anyone have a brother or sister in the congregation who did this .... "i would like to define the meaning to the most simplest word in this paragraph, to see if i can seem smart for knowing how to use a dictionary?".
... when i say simple word, i mean people defining "honor" or maybe something like "knowledge" or any other word a person with an education beyond the forth grade would know without the look-up.

The problem with the riddle is this...
The kids dont spend $9. They spend $9.3333333333.
The cost of the frame is $25, which means that each kid spends $8.333333. If he gives them back a dollar each, they have now each spent $9.33333, which for all three of them adds up to $28. The $2 he keeps make it $30 even...

Dozy,The authors are banking on two things with that book. The first is that the numbers are so huge that it is just going to be too initimidating to dispute, and that their readers are not going to have the credentials, education, and capacity to logically combat the figures and information that they are spitting out, and so you swallow it.
First things first, you mention the evolution of the universe. How does that relate to God? And particularly, how does that relate to biological evolution which is where religion and science have unfortunately and inappropriately found themselves at a crossroads? If you understood evolution at all you would recognize that that could just as easily be the method that God used to create, and he just didnt specifically create all the atrocities we see through the universe, particularly on Earth. So agreeing or disagreeing with evolution does not really back your argument one way or another.
And also, the numbers that you just regurgitated, they are missing two important variables. First, take the one billion years and increase it to ten. And then take the mass of all the carbon on all the planets approximately 1/3 to 5 times the size of the Earth, that are in the universe, and factor that into your equations. The reason I say that is this. Abiogenisis, which is what you are talking about, doesnt need to happen on each planet specifically. It only needed to happen once in the universe, which as I am sure you can understand, severly alters your test environment and subsequent results. In fact, using the mathematics that you are using, basic and non influenced abiogenesis becomes almost a certainty.
Do you cook? Have you ever heard of cross contamination? Then certainly you have experienced it and probably taken steps to combat it. Here's a thought for you. Mars might be a lifeless rock right now, but will it be after we go there? How about after we leave there? What about the anaerobic bacteria that thrive in an environment that lacks oxygen, and unfortunately almost completely covers everything we touch? There will certainly be bacteria on the surfaces of everything that we touch out there, because we will bring them with us, so when we leave them behind we will effectively be introducing life to that world if it does not already exist there. Would that make us their God? Now mathematically, especially when you consider the age of our sun right now, it is highly unlikely that anything special will ever happen to that bacteria which we will, without doubt, introduce to that planet when we go there, which we eventually will. But can you say that for the rest of the universe? Can you say that for our own Earth 3.5 billion years ago, when Earth was only a billion years old, but the rest of our universe was ten billion years old, and many stars had already burnt out and died?
Logically that might be a stretch and it could be a completely foreign thought for many, but for me it is far more realistic then believing that we were specially created by God and then he let that creation, which he put some much time and effort into, go absolutely crazy and commit all the atrocities against itself and the co-created.
Just a thought...

Mary, why do you insist that there is a relationship with evolution and atheism? From your statements, it is obvious that you have never heard of "theistic evolution".
And, though atheists may be biased, science is not. Unless you can find a way of demonstrating that direct observation is biased, your statements are with out merit. Now obviously there are select instances where someone can interpret test results in a biased manner, but that is why all scientific observations are required to go through peer review.
You may be interested to know that the two main tenets of Intelligent Design are Irreducible Complexity and Specified Complexity. I would definitely recommend you take a look at these two concepts yourself very closely before you start stating that you take stock in Intelligent Design. You will find that as brilliant and concrete as those terms sound and feel, when looked at closely they run completely contrary to the basic tenet of science which is to test a theory/hypothesis by direct observation and either eliminate it or refine it. You will deduce, I am sure, that they are the opposite of what science should in principle allow for because it is the equivalent of throwing up your hands and saying "Aw shucks! That one looks tough! God did it!"
With regards to whether God exists or not, I do not believe in any God as he appears in the bible. But I also feel that it would be supremely arrogant for me to presume that somewhere out there there is not some superior form of life that ancient cultures would have mistakenly defined as God, or a superior form of life that many today would interpret to be God. But, the God of the bible? No way. If so, I'll never worship him. If the God of the bible exists, He has let millions of babies die of preventable disease, billions kill each other at war, millions of women be raped, millions be born deformed, watched his own servants be fed to lions, intentionally created creatures on this planet that exist only by suffocating and disemboweling His own creation, created all the bacteria that causes disease to course through our veins, created virus' that have wiped out millions painfully, and has sat back idly and watched as countless other wrongs have taken place. If a human being sat by and did that, our own laws would rightfully convict him and put him away for life or execute him. Why does God get a hall pass? Especially when he has the power to fix it all!! He's either history's biggest asshole, or He isn't there. Again, there may be something out there that we would mistakenly identify as God, but the God of the bible isn't there...
And for the people that think birth is a miracle...it quits being miraculous when it happens for the 900 billionth time!

Did Jehovah destroy millions with a flood in Noah's day?
by fish in.
jesus seemed to believe in the story of noah's flood.
i wonder if god really drowned millions of people like the bible says for simply eating and drinking and not taking any note?

Free2beme,
You know there is an irony in your post. Even though you were obviously joking, which you make clear at the end, your joke is really more plausible then the flood legend as found in the bible when everything is taken into account...that is one of the reasons that I have soooooo little respect for the bible in general.

Abaddon,It is a pleasure to meet you as well! I will say that that was one of the more thorough and targeted intellectual beatdowns I have seen someone receive in a while! I enjoyed it greatly...thank you!
I appreciate the warning regarding some of the creation fundamentalists out there and on this board. I probably have too much faith in others! I just always remember that I was once one as well, which I shudder at the mere thought of, but I guess that is what happens when you born into "the truth". I just can never figure out how people don't make it all the way out. Do they really need something that bad?
I guess I will not get my hopes up in the way of receiving a reply from Hooberus though...either way, perhaps it will help others!
Looking forward to seeing you around here!
