Greendawn could you possibly BE more clueless?
"Genetically predisposed"? WTF?
Seriously, that's screwed. Good thing you're willing to condescend to tolerate them though! LMAO
i am not gay and never have been one, but do you think that your local society treats gays with respect or that it has no tolerence for such a sexually different and in the thought of many deviant minority?
.
i personally don't approve of their activities but i can understand that they are genetically predisposed in that way and can't change.

here's an excerpt from a bbc.co.uk article i just read:.
"the holy koran recognises jesus as a prophet.
what the book says is an insult to both christians and muslims," maulana mansoor ali khan, general secretary of the all-india sunni jamiyat-ul-ulema, told the reuters news agency.
i was in class and by these two women (one who was a christian and the other student i am unsure of).
i asked them, randomly, "do you know much about jehovah's witnesses?
" -- they both said "yes" and the non-christian said "i had a jw friend and he really hated it... he disaproved of what they taught" -- i started to talk about shunning and disfellowship.
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've always thought the cross/stake thing was just a nitpicky little point that made even more obvious the JW need to be "right". They want to think that they know something you don't, that they've "done their homework" and you haven't, you lazy bastards!
One thing about it, is that it is part of their identity as a group. It's one of the things that sets them apart and distinguishes them as the legalistic, petulant, short-sighted, irrational dweebs they are.
But if you become convinced by their illogic on irrelevant issues such as this, you might think they are on to something, and actually start believing the doctrine as a whole. Then you are SO screwed.
i am america sign language teacher and a caretaker of a house near the beach.
what do you do for living?
I have a number of jobs.
I build those electronic card lock boxes you see at commercial gas pumps (the ones truckers use).
I install window coverings (blinds, drapes, shutters, you name it).
I develop software and web sites.
I fix computers and set up networks and phone systems.
I do electronics work as well (some formal education there).
With all these skills you'd think I'd be rich. Think again.

Cutting is NOT normal or healthy, nor are the fantasies you describe. Stop taking the untrained and ignorant advice of your boyfriend or parent, and go straight to a doctor. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. These are symptoms of SERIOUS mental disturbance.
I used to have a girlfriend who cut herself, probably exactly like you do. According to her, the cutting was to inflict a superficial injury, so that it could be "cared for". It wasn't about the cutting, it was about the feeling of being cared for. The cutting was simply a means to an end. This same woman had some serious emotional issues, initially diagnosed as "borderline personality disorder" and then rediagnosed to "intense, acute depressive episodes". Both diagnosis seemed accurate, from where I stood. The important thing is that these problems she had made it impossible for the two of us to have a healthy relationship.
As for the impulsivity, this is something I myself suffer from. For me, it is a part of ADHD. It may be for you also, it may not.
Check out this link: http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/mental_health/cutting.html
this one paragraph stood out for me:
People who cut or self-injure sometimes have other mental health problems that contribute to their emotional tension. Cutting is sometimes (but not always) associated with depression, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, obsessive thinking, or compulsive behaviors. It can also be a sign of mental health problems that cause people to have trouble controlling their impulses or to take unnecessary risks. Some people who cut themselves have problems with drug or alcohol abuse.
when i was a witness, i was very arrogant in my life in thinking i was right in all things.
the right religion, the right bible, the right understanding and the right lifestyle.
when i left, it was not hard to shake this arrogance and i found at times i was the same person, only with a different "right" message and i annoyed my witness relatives as much as they annoying me.
What I'd like to know, is how many of you ex (and current) arrogants thought other people were the arrogant ones.
i was reading a post on here recently from some young guy who was never a witness but wanted some advice about a romantic situation and what struck me was his real guilt trip about sex, porn and masturbation.. .
what is the reason for attaching so much guilt to sex?
is it because we attach emotion to the closness of our sexual relationships?
I have a few points to make here.
Firstly, organised religion is about social engineering. Thus, the topics covered tend to pertain to things like sex (reproduction) and marriage (the family unit).
Secondly, Christianity belongs to a category of religion called ascentionism, as opposed to descentionism. An ascentionist believes that the answers are found by ascending, or "rising above" the flesh, into the spirit world where god lives. A descentionist believes that god is IN the flesh, therefore godliness lies in the material world.
As for the elders using lurid confessions to get a stiffy, that you can bank on. It's a direct result of the sexual repression of the JW religion, and probably also tied in with what their wives won't do for them in bed. If you only got laid once in a while and only in the most "vanilla" way possible, wouldn't you want to hear what freaky stuff others have been up to? Especially if you could do so under the guise of "holiness"?
As for pornography, the whacktower is an excellent example of pornography, it's just not sexual.
a good friend of mine is a former jw.
she is married to an active jw and her children are still jws.
her husband has demanded that they discuss why she is no longer willing to go to meetings, etc... she is wondering what subject would be the best to approach him with first.
If I were in your shoes (or at least what your shoes look like from here) I would simply give him a copy of Crisis of Conscience, and ask that he refrain from further questions or demands until he has read that book. I suggest you NOT tell him what it's about, except perhaps in very vague terms. Just tell him it's the memoirs of a former GB member. I have read it, it's very good, and if you can get him to start reading it, I'm sure he will finish it.
That should prepare him for the discussion you need to have with him, get you both on the same page, so to speak.
If you don't happen to have a copy on you, as I'm sure you don't with a JW spouse, it's reasonable to ask that he be willing to postpone the discussion/ultimatum so you have time to come prepared.
I just noticed this part:
Cults - who is in - who is out? |
Is the Church of Reality a cult? Are you in a cult? These are interesting questions. One thing that's common about all cult members is that they are all sure that they are NOT in a cult. So - if you are sure you are not in a cult then take this test. The question about if you are in a cult is not a black and white issue. There are organizations that are clearly cults and others that are cultish depending on your perspective. And most all groups of people have some cult like properties. Obviously if you are a member of a group that is contemplating mass suicide then you are in a cult. But what about people who believe in Armageddon, are they cult members? Especially if you think the world will end in your life time? Or if you are looking forward to the end of the world? If you think we are in the "end times" and you are fantasizing about God destroying the world, you are in a cult. |
