so a few months ago i went with my family to meet for field service (ugh i hate it!!!).
so while we were meeting for service, an elders' wife began to talk about the 'great' spiritual food the fds had gave us at the recent dc.
she went on to say regarding info that the fds gives out "we have to follow it,even if we dont understand it, even if we dont agree with it.

and once again wt society is showing very controlling tendencies towards it's jw members.. do any of you remember the " old days " in the 1970's or early 1980's when witnesses used to have goody night after book study ?
or you would have a " potluck picnic " with about 30 to 40 people getting to know one another to draw close as friends outside the confines of the kingdom hall ?

things like "don't masturbate" or things like if you position yourself like this, and your woman like this while having sex, then you're fornicating?.
I keep my kids away from meetings where those topics are discussed. They are too young to be hearing about that stuff, I will tell them when the time is appropriate.

the leaders (the governing body) talk to the rank and file like they are senseless little children it makes me sick.

i recently had an experience with my mother-in-law that really solidified what i had suspected about the jw claim to trust only in the bible.. my father-in-law was raised a witness, but never got baptized.
he eventually joined the army and served his country in vietnam.
after his tours of service he "came to his senses" and eventually got baptized as a jw.. fast forward to a few months ago.
Interesting observation about the questions. For years I never bothered to even look at the questions, but highlight main points from the paragraph. From that you could almost reverse engineer the questions. The meetings are pretty dumbed down now anyway, hardly gives any reason to study unless you want to look uber spiritual and bring in an additional bible point that is relevant. Then everyone will see how intelligent you are and studious.

Unfortunately Brian there are a number of JW men that are NOT christlike and instead are demeaning and abusive in different ways. I know I was (not physically) for years but didn't realize it. People(elders too) don't like to get involved and tell someone that they are a jerkhole to their wife.
this was brought up just in passing on another thread.
but i wanted to see if there are any bethelites or ex bethelites that remember some of the crazy rules we had to follow when we were there..
It dawned on me one day a long time ago that they were smoking crack if they think making the whole world like Bethel would be a paradise.
