  I've got to agree with sir82 on this. It doesn't make any sense that the Society would send out letters ordering elders to get on computers (which they shouldn't have to begin with) and ferret out apostates. If an elder actually did this, and maybe started reading and thinking a little bit, then that would be the first step toward becoming an apostate himself. Does the Society want to take a chance on losing even one elder that way? I doubt it. However, as Wednesday pointed out, I wouldn't doubt for a second that individual zealots in the local congregations might take it upon themselves to do a little house cleaning, in a strictly "not official" way. That's certainly possible. But the Society? I don't see it happening. Of course, the easiest way to prove it would be to produce that letter. A scan would be great. If I could see a scan of it, I would believe it. Otherwise, it sounds to me like a bunch of gossip-mongering, which, as we all know, the JW's have perfected into an art form.

  Thick, stupid people and FIRWORKS

  is it just me or does anybody else hate fireworks?

  right now in uk, it's getting close to nov 5, 'bonfire night', a celebration of guy fawks attempt to blow up parliament.

  question... why do some idiots let fireworks off for one week prior and a full week after nov 5?

And I think Greendawn hit the nail on the head----------------------------------The fireworks industry must have an extremely powerful lobby. That's about the only thing that can explain it. David

  I only have 2 pet peeves and people shooting off illegal fireworks is one of them. I can't understand why fireworks are even sold to to the public when not 1 person in 50 (and that's a conservative estimate) has a legal place to use them. I can't understand why the law allows people to celebrate Independence Day with alchohol and fireworks. A real bad combination. Talk about thick and stupid. Carol, I know exactly what you mean---------------------------We have some some neighbors who do the same thing. They started a six-alarm fire in the alley one year and burned down a small house. I used to call the police on them every year, but they never help, so I gave up. For the sake of my sanity, I just go to a motel on July 4 weekend and get away from it all. For the life of me, I can't understand it.

  the title of this post was spoken by james pellechia, a bethel heavy.

  after the mid afternoon song, bro pellechia reads the accounts report.. the circuit assembly account had a surplus of $3,000, the account balance was $47,000.

  Family tragedy.........HappyDad

  got a phone call from my daughter who lives in florida a couple of hours ago.

  her significant other who i chose to call my son-in-law (because he is the best thing to ever happen to her) got a phone call that his 6 year old daughter was killed in an auto accident near lake placid, florida and his 5 year old son is in very critical condition.

  the ex wife is also critical.

  i snitched on a sister who used to spend a lot of supposed field service time in a local cafe, but she still counted the time.

  she was spoken to by a couple of elders and was never seen in that cafe again.

  of all the things i did as a "loyal" jw, i feel worst about my snooping on this really nice lady.

  I was desperate for time. (It seems like I was always desperate for time.) So, toward the end of the month, I would scan the obituaries and write letters to surviving family members. Long letters, lots of detail, scriptures quoted in their entireity. (I could count more time that way, you see.) Jesus, I can't believe I did that. It makes me ashamed. Like, those poor people needed me intruding in their grief.........................

  well, we finally attended the dc.

  we couldn't go when assigned so we went this weekend instead.

  i will say what a fine spiritually refreshing weekend it was!

  I noticed the baptism figure, too. Only 25 people baptized? Wow. That's terrible.

  Let me do a little calculating here: There's 200 congregations in a district, but they would have to split the districts up to keep convention size managable. I would guess that each convention has around 75 - 80 congregations attending----------------------that sounds reasonable, doesn't it? That would work out to around 5000 in attendance, and that seems to be what the Society shoots for. And only 25 baptisms? That averages out to 1 new publisher for every 3 congregations. All that time spent out in service, and they can only talk 25 people into signing on the dotted line? That's not growth........................that's pitiful.

  sound, reasonable loving advice is currently being presented on their official website in regard to "your role as a parent".

  but how can the average jw take this into consideration----experts believe that overscheduling children with countless adult-led activities could stifle their imagination and creativity.

  I'm shaking my head in amazement. It's unbelieveable. The writers of this crap have no conscience and no shame. Of course, you have to realize that this is on their website------------------------------------since it's mainly propaganda for non-believers, it's not surprising that they put little bonbons like this on it. It's to show the world what a desirable way of life the witnesses have, and how happy and normal they are. "Painting." "Camping." Sure. But the rank & file witnesses probably aren't reading it. They shouldn't even own a computer.

  Well, I'll give the Jacksons credit for this, though: At least they didn't hollar "PERSECUTION!!!!!!!", and bring the lawyers in. They moved out and went on with their business, and left the Rowing Club alone to take of their's.
