My first computer was a Commodore AMIGA 500 with 512k RAM and a 3.5 disk drive.
I got this computer in 1990 and it was love at first sight.
what was the first ever computer that you owned?
no doubt some here had some of the earliest home computers that came out such as the commodore 64. .
i bought my first one relatively late in 1997, it had cpu 200 mhz mmx, 2.3gb hard disk, 64mb ram, 2mb graphics card, modem 36k.

i was listening to a testimonial by valerie acuff and she said that she was sitting in an assembly, looking around at the crowd and thinking to herself, "this is your family, these are your people.".
she said at that moment she heard a voice inside say, "these are not your people, this is not your family, get up and leave now, and don't ever go back.
" so she took her two children at that very moment and left, and she never went back.
When the society announced in "Our Kingdom Ministry" that there is a new Web Site, that will preach the good news in the internet, I went the next day to the computer room at my college to see this site in the internet.
I had forgotten the correct address and typed "www.watchtower.com" instead of "www.watchtower.org".
At that time no redirection was installed and I got an error massage. So I had to use yahoo.com
(Is this enginge still running?) to search for the watchtower site.
You can imagine what kind of hits I found.
"accepting a change when it comes and adapting to it can be difficult," admits one longtime elder.
what has helped him accept the many refinements he has witnessed in the 48 years that he has been a kingdom proclaimer?
he ansewrs: "having the right attitude is the key.
Maybe they are preparing the crowd for some "new light" to come. That would be fun!
this is in reference to the thread about dubs not having pets.
although, not a rule from the borg there are ones who would say you should not have pets.
can you think of other silly made-up rules that someone tried to impose on you?
There was an elder who promoted the view that JW should not watch the smurfs at TV. His argumentation: They are unnatural blue. They are unnatural small. They can talk. THEY ARE DEMONIC!!! :) :) :)
when you were a jw what sort of experiences did you have with other non local jws that you met for the first time perhaps in other regions or countries?
was there a real sense of brotherhood?
when we went to brussels in 1980 jws there put us up in their houses, they picked us up at the bus station and during free time they showed us around their city.
The great fanaticism in obeying the GB rules including shunning family members I don't think works so much in other cultures.
I would not say that. I have made some experiences with Witnesses from southern Europe like Italians, Greeks and people from Spain.
In these southern european societies religion still plays a much more important role in everyday life that in Nothern/West/Central Europe and as a result moral and ethics is very important to them, at least superficially. So these witnesses I have met from southern europe showed stringent obedience to the orgs directives.
Furthermore I have noticed that people from these societies have an affinity for a more fundamentalistic world view. So for me it is of no surprise that most southern european countries were governed by dictatorship until the middle of the 70ties.
have you ever encountered this text in acts 21:20 ?
the "new king james version" rendering is as follows: "and when they heard it, they glorified the lord.
and they said to him, you see, brother, how many myriads of jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law"
I am such a fraidy-cat otherwise I would write a letter to the society, asking how they undestand the myriads jewish christians of Acts 21:20.
So you named yourself like a guy that fell in love with his mirror image! :)

Yes indeed, As I mentioned already in my first posting , the NWT hides "myriads" in the footnote.
Bye the way, is you nickname from greek origin?

Narkissos your argument is taken from the scholarly/scientific/historic point of view and surely is correct!
Nonetheless it is interesting to see, how the Watchtower Society, that claims that the Bible is the pure error free Word of God and that the New World Translation is the most accurate bible translation ever made, makes use of "artistic freedom" when translating bible passages that have dogmatic implications.
The word myriads for example is well known by all Jehovahs Witnesses. There exists even a song in the song-book that makes use of this term "myriads myriads of ...". So there is no reason to translate myriads with thousands because every Jehovahs Witness understand what myriads mean. In addition in other parts of the NWT they do not translate myriads with thousands but leave it there.
So why do they handle this topic inconsequently. From my experience I can say that nothing is happening by chance at the org but they have strong motives for their choices.

I was in London some years ago to attend a specific course that was offered by a college there and I attend the meeting in the local conregation and took part in the Watchtower study by commenting.
When the meeting was over the elder who conducted the Wachttower study approached me and invited me for dinner. Some unmarried local sisters were also invited, so the elder obviously thaught that I was unmarried and he could solve some unsolveable problems in his congregation. : ) We spent a wonderful evening. Really nice people. And really nice food for british circumstances.

Yes, I have read some agnostic literatue like the gospel of Thomas and it is really strange and distinguishable of the regular scripture.
To return to the topic ... it is interesting that the New World translation uses the word myriads at other occasions when no dogmatic implications exist like in Hebrew 12:22 " But YOU have approached a Mount Zion and a city of [the] living God, heavenly Jerusalem, and myriads of angels ".
But apart from Acts 21:20 there is another verse where myriads is rendered thousands instead of "tens of thousand" in the NWT Luke 12:1 " In the meantime, when the crowd had gathered together in so many thousands that they were stepping upon one another, he started out by saying first to his disciples: "Watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.""
But I am not so sure about the reason why they made this choice of translation here! Maybe it is again the same reason like above and they do not want the people to know how strong the impact of Jesus teachings was and how many Jews he attracted to him.
