Arguments JW's can't argue with.....I think???
by Adolfius inthese are just a couple of arguments i think would cause any half sane jw (if any current and actively brainwashed "true believer" could ever be described as sane), to stop and think for themselves.. thinking person: is the bible and the events it describes true and factual?.
jw: yes.....to the letter.. thinking person: could evolution be true?.
jw: no way.. thinking person: ok, so i just want to get this perfectly clear; evolution in no way happened, is happening, or possibly ever will happen?

this arguement won't work because it would be the same as the different species of dogs, cats, horse, cows, etc...
If I was still a JW, I would say that Jehovah God merely activated different genes in the DNA to produce different variations within a species.

Cognitive dissonance is a psychological term which describes the uncomfortable tension that comes
from holding two conflicting thoughts at the same time, or from engaging in behavior that conflicts with one's

defined as any element of knowledge, including attitude, emotion, belief, or behavior. The theory of cognitive

invent new thoughts or beliefs, or to modify existing beliefs, so as to reduce the amount of dissonance (conflict)
between cognitions.

Cognitive dissonance is the realization that there something wrong and we feel uneasy. So we are driven to make plausible excuses.
There are other psychological factors at play here as well. There is a psychological need to socialize with people and this leads to the pressure of conformity, if everyone else listens and accepts what's being said, we feel the added pressure to conform (we don't want to appear foolish or the oddball). Click on this youtube link Asch conformity experiments, it is fasinating.
There is another psychological factor at play in the congregation, that is the pressure to be obedient to the elders, society, governing body. Stanley Milgram preformed a test to see what are the factors that lead to obedience to authority and how far we would go. It was absolutely shocking to see how far people will go to be obedient. Google Milgram's shock machine and read up on the experiment and see if you can locate a video of the experiment.
What got me out was when I started refusing to make unreasonable excuses and rationalization for the organization, conformity and obedience be damned!

MY OBSERVATIONS FROM THE MEMORIAL TONIGHT (just got home)
by Mary inwell, as per usual, the memorial talk bored the hell out of me, but i found it, in one way to be an improvement over last years when they had the most boring speaker on the planet there http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/111544/1.ashx this guy at least knew how to speak.
unfortunately, he didn't have much of a script to work with.. there was the mention of adam sinning and mankind needing a redeemer etc., no mention of when the israelites left egypt though.
that's probably the first year i've ever seen where this hasn't been mentioned.
