I read the article and it did make valid points about the cost of many universities, they are expensive. But I think the real question that needs to be focused on is whether or not a expensive university is worth the price over a less expensive university. In that case, it is harder to justify a high price tag. I personally don't subscribe to the idea that a higher priced university will necessarily provide you with a comparatively better education.

For those who appreciate higher learning, college it is definitely worth the time and expense. A good university (whether expensive or inexpensive) can be transforming. If you can afford a high priced educational school, great. If not, then go to a inexpensive one.

I like the video but I think you went too far on some points. Some may view this as dishonest. For example, I don't know if the watchtower officially said the world would end in 1932 or 1938. They may have hoped it would but it is a little different than proclaiming worldwide that it would such as in 1914, 1918, 1925 and the generation of 1914. Also, accusing the watchtower of murder is a little extreme. There policies have led to the deaths of many people (blood policy) but that is different than actually killing someone. I think your message would be a little stronger if you don't go to such extremes.

The Republican Party Frustrates me!
by free2beme inbeing a former witness, when i first left the religion, i thought it would be a good idea to stick with a party that was fairly conservative in their stand.
although, in many ways i did not agree with them, i liked the republicans more then the democrats.
so i registered republican.

Personally, age isn't too big a factor. If that is a big criteria in someone's decision making, I think that they should stay home on election day. Although McCain isn't as charismatic as Obama, he is more experienced in working with both parties. I really tried to like Obama but he really is naive. His comments concerning foreign issues (such as Pakistan), the economy, law enforcement (patriot act and stance on domestic terrorism), partial birth abortions, etc... just make me shake my head in disbelief. I have asked obama supporters why they liked Obama and was not surprised by their level of ignorance. People are taken in by his charm and well meaning answers but have no clue as to how he plans to realistically handle todays problems. Although Obama seems to be a pleasant and amiable fellow, I think he will be a ineffective President who will leave the country worse off than it is today. I will vote for McCain in November.

Graduating from collge next week
by NYCkid ini just wanted share that i am graduating from columbia university next week with an undergraduate degree in sociology at the age of 39. see, it's never too late, for anyone out there considering attending college.. my partner and around 10 of my closest friends will be there to cheer me on, which is overshadowing any disappointment that my family will not be there, or as of today, yet to acknowledge this accomplishment that means so much to me (i sent grad announcements a few weeks ago along with an invite).
in all honestly, they live across the country so it is an expensive trip.. anyway, despite the student loans, hard work and sacrifices, it has been well worth it.
i remember back in h.s in the late 1980s, i begged my parents to let me attend college, but of course, the end was coming and it was a waste of time.

hey jesse, way to go! I'm a junior myself doing a major in psychology. I'm about to become a research assistant in preparation for my own research project. School has been a blast, such a wonderful experience. Are you planning graduate school in the future? What ever you do, I wish you much success.

hey randy, maybe a tabbed edit bar on top which take you to other parts of your site would help. Another option would be to put it on the left side going downward. I like the colors, they seem friendlier than the black colors you used before (never liked those colors, way too dissonant) thecarpenter

Worlds Apart
by truthsetsonefree inwe are just back from watching worlds apart.
we all thought that this is the best, most accurate movie on this topic that we have ever seen.
i hope to post more on it once i've gotten some rest.

I was very surprised how accurately the witnesses were portrayed. The movie didn't shy away from the emotional toll the dictates of the watchtower has on it's members. From a outsiders perspective, it show the absurdness of the flip-flops on a personal level. Interestingly, we met a group of young witnesses and encouraged them to research their own faith.
I fill in more details later.

Impalement or Crucifiction? Opinions please?
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inas we all know, the jw religion teaches that christ was impaled on a torture stake rather than crucified on the cross.
i have my own views on this and have recently been approached by a friend who also has certain views on the murder of jesus.
from my own reading of history and some recent internet sources, the discription of what the bible says happened to christ bears little resemblance to what impalement on a torture stake actually was.

Incidentally, the manner in which Christ died (from a pathological standpoint) also points to a crossbeam mounted to a pole. The scriptures mentioned that it took approximately 6 hours for him to die. This manner of death would be consistent with hypovolemic shock. If he was hung from his hands in the way the society depicts it, his manner of death would has been from asphyxiation and it would have happened much more rapidly. Concentration camp prisoners in WWII who were hung by their wrist with their legs tied down, died within ten minutes because they couldn't lift their bodies to respirate. Those left dangling from their wrist, died in about one hour.
