After they've been told in no uncertain terms that I USED TO BE A JW they will ask. "So you guys don't celebrate holidays?"
I get that sometimes too. I just smile and tell them "Sure I do, I'm now cult free"
how many of you get pissed off when somebody asks you one of the following questions?:.
do you go to church?
have you been to the latest sermon/mass/meeting?

ever wonder why you are asked for information when you make a purchase?
i've been asked for all kinds of things, like my name, phone number, postal code, etc.
once i made a cash purchase at radio shack.
I'm with caligirl - I'll give them my zip but nothing else.
My State has passed some pretty strict confidentiality laws governing identifying information such as driver's licenses, dob's, and ssn's. If they get push I just tell them where I work and then tell them about the recent legislature passed - that usually shuts them up.
All except for the darn nickel paper! But that's another story.
jw's are told that they have a faith unlike any other.
what is the faith that the typical witness has??
?
Interesting question min.....I used to wonder the same thing when I was a very active JW. I wondered why other non-dub Christian friends of mine seemed to have this special relationship with God that I didn't. I wondered how they could find such peace and strength in their "faith" when I just KNEW they were part of Satan's world - I was a JW and knew the "truth", I was supposed to have this strong "faith" but it was not a strength to me at all - it was only words.
It was not until years after I was DF'd that I found real faith. If someone asked me now what the foundation of my faith is I could give them an explanation at length.
As a JW I had a pat answer - one that I was trained to give, only problem is I didn't really FEEL it.
i received a phone call from an old non-witness friend tonight.
he's just proposed to his girlfriend and they're getting married next summer.
she is catholic; he is agnostic.
I would say go and enjoy yourself. But, to be on the safe side, don't tell any of your family until after the fact. Then if they say something to you - play the innocent card.....since you've been inactive just say "hu? I knew you couldn't go to church services but I didn't realize you couldn't go into a church for a wedding" - you won't get DF'd for that. Especially since the WT (as quoted above) does not support a DF'ing for it.
Bebu - I can't speak for all Jewish people, but I have a close friend who is like a second father to me and he is Jewish. He would not go to a wedding held in a church.
i hope this is not a duplicate:.

If anyone did that with my kids they would be in hospital, not court.

for those of us who had a lifetime of trying to do it right under all kinds of very difficult tests of faith while imperfect, how do you think jesus would of done if he had to be tested for a lifetime of say 70 or 80 years and not just three and a half years.. what if you had only three and a half years to prove faithful knowing that in just three days after you died you would live again in heaven and would that have been easier than having to spend a lifetime trying to be faithful through all the years of 70 or 80 yrs.. just asking,it's something that i was thinking about today.. blueblades
You cannot compare Jesus with us ordinary mortals
And you're not supposed to - that's the point. Jesus didn't come to show us what crap we are. His issue with proving himself faithful was a battle between he and Satan - it was not intended for us.
If you could prove yourself faithful then you wouldn't need Jesus right?! So obviously, then he wasn't here to show you how to prove yourself faithful and move on without him. He knows you can't do that. His purpose for man was to bring hope and mercy.
women still can't handle mic's, count money, count attendance, or give public talks.
"in the first century, some of (the women in the bible) had the privilege of ministering to jesus an his apostles.
("cook that lamb and wash the wine jugs, toots!").
........enough said.

Wasn't Jesus apostate to Judaism, Jehovah's earthly organization?
Yep. Makes you think eh?
Blueblades - Jesus didn't come to prove to US that a human can gain acceptance to heaven - he came to prove it to SATAN. He won - Satan lost - and Jesus was given the keys to heaven. So now HE will let us in if we ask him to - and we don't have to be perfect to get there (thank God!). All we have to do is believe in him and ask. (John 6:40)
i faded as a jw about 8 years ago.
to me the meetings were just plain boring as hell and so "robotic".
i never did feel true love amongst the brothers and sisters as they always like to tout.
that's why everyone gossips so much, nobody has a real life. yep...yep...totally agree there. I was so totally bored at all the meetings & assemblies - I dreaded them. Now I know why - I HAVE A BRAIN! Yes - I want to learn - and rehashing mindless drivel molded to look like doctrine was boring me to death. I love having the freedom to really dig into things now. I'm a Christian but not afraid to look at other possibilities - I'm taking anthropology right now and have a few other classes in line I'd like to pursue. Using my mind is a wonderful thing. Oh yea - and having 2 more free nights is great too - now I'm taking that dance class I always wanted to, and going back to college.
just wondering why you choose not to use too many identifying facts about yourself on the boards?
is it to protect yourself, or others?.
for me, i have nothing to lose where the dubs are concerned, and initially my profile was pretty extensive.
I am still anonymous for one person only - my mother. I take care of her and don't want to put her in a bad situation - she's in her 70's and she just needs to be loved and cared for. So I have decided to remain under wraps until she has passed on.
