  Those people with the cardboard signs.

  what do you do when you see people holding the cardboard signs?

  sunday afternoon i was driving to a day spa in seattle for a pedicure.

  i was sitting at a red light and there was an older man holding a cardboard sign.

  I'm always a "little" skeptical about the ones holding the "Vietnam Veteran" sign and they're only 20 years old!!

  My friend and I came up with a great idea - put together packets to hand to the homeless:
  * list of resources w/addresses & phone numbers (like shelters, etc)
  * 2 bus tickets (for city transit) so they can get to a shelter
  * a bar of soap, toothbrush, and toothpast
  * a note of encouragement

  We figured that way the people who really need help could get to a shelter and find help - the scam artists wouldn't get our $$

  Do you still get Nightmares?

  do you still get nightmares?.

  because last night i had the crap scared out of me.. i cant remember what i had been dreaming about, but something shocked me and i opened my eyes and i saw a figure standing beside my bed.. my body when straight into fight mode.. now this is the weirest part for me.i shouted at the top of my voice , very loudly "what the f**k" yet it wasn't me speaking , my body sort of took over and said it .my eyes sort of adjusted and the figure disappeared and a i think at that point i became wide awake.. my wife was woken up by my shouting.. my heart was racing and my hair standing on end.. i have had a similiar experience once before but i didn't shout.. the fact that i woke up shouting, really freaked me out.. what the crap was going on in my head?

  Hi Sleepy:

  You should explain your dream/nightmares to your doctor - there is a sleep disorder called night terrors where you wake up while your mind is still part-way in the dream state. So you actually see/experience in a waking phase what the other part of your mind is dreaming.

  Sounds like that could possibly be the case.

  Memorial policy. Is that true all over?

  i was interested in the post earlier today, about how the 'emblems' were not passed to the disfellowshipped people at the memorial.. does anyone know if this is the policy now, or was it an isolated incident?.

  my husband, a former elder, said he had never heard of that being done before.

  but we've been gone for 4 years too.. marilyn (aka mulan).

  Well Damn - now I wish I had gone this year.

  I'd love to stand up and say "hey - you missed me!!!!!"

  I went last year and sat near the front, and they passed me the emblems. I even sang ([=:0]), but it was hard to get into "The Lord's Evening Meal" (blah blah blah) song after spending the last year singing at a very musical southern baptist type church!!

  Boy could they use a worship team or what?!!

  Hi Bigfloppydog:

  I sure feel for you - I can remember having those sam thoughts and doubts!!

  Take the time to research the topic of prayer using only your bible. You will most likely come to the same conclusion as I - Jesus, and Jesus alone is a mediator for our prayers to God - not any eartly organization. For that reason, no earthly person or organization can determine if your prayers are heard - they don't have the authority.

  Here's a couple of scriptures I have found helpful:

  Phi 4:6 Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

  Mat 7:8 For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

  Nowhere in these scriptures does it add "unless you're disfellowshipped"

  Another reinstatement meeting coming up...

  i turned in a request (by letter) for reinstatement last week and ive been informed that i will meeting with my original judicial committee this coming wednesday.

  im very excited and happy, but at the same time i want to be careful how i conduct myself.

  in the last meeting in early march, my reinstatement request was turned down.

  You said that you had prayed to Jehovah to show you the way "in or out" - I can relate to that. I just hope that your eyes and ears are open to hear his answer......

  I would suggest that you pray again and ask him to open your eyes and ears to the truth.

  MavMan - have you read Crisis of Conscience yet?

  Even though I don't agree with your beliefs any longer, I can relate to them. But I think it's important to keep an open mind - I know that you've read the "Organized" book (as did I and most other JW's), but you should also read "Crisis of Conscience".

  You may not agree with what Mr. Franz has to say - but I have found it helpful to hear both sides of a story, then make my decision.

  At the very least, you will be in a position to defend your faith if someone at the door asks you about the contents of one of these books.
  (1 Peter 3:15 Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,...)

  well, folks, i am still holding on.... the intense cravings that last 30 seconds to 3 minutes is not what is tough.

  what is tough is the confusion and weird feeling and the fact i feel like killing somebody.

  i feel like i am on a mild hallucinogenic.

  Why doen't God perform miracles today?

  why did jesus do miracles?.

  it is alledged that some 2000 years ago a man claimed to be the son of god , or even god himself (depends what religion you are).. in order to give some weight to his cliam he did some miracles, cured a few lepers, made a slap up lunch out of some fish and bread, and took a walk on some water.. all this to prove he was gods son.. but to prove it to who?.

  if you ask a witness why god doen't perform miracles today , what do they say.. we don't need miracles today we have it all written in the bible.. der.

  Being outside of the JW's is so great!! I can actually think for myself now and make my own decisions. (yeee haaa!!)
