My exit was sort of sudden (got beat on by that shepard's hook one too many times and finally broke). But I did attend maybe two more meetings and the Memorial '06 where like you, I absolutely couldn't sing. There was a big gaggy thing stuck in my throat and I didn't try to force any sound over it. The kids were pretty embarassed that I just *stood there* but that was also the last meetings I took them to... I didn't say any "amen" in those meetings, either. In fact, I think the very last meeting I went to, I didn't bow my head at all.

How did you dispose of your JW books? (Or did you?)
by exwitless inlittle drummer boy and i have a small house and we do not have room for the wasted space all of these books are creating.
here's a brief rundown of what we have:.
several nwt hardcover bibles, chinese bibles (lots of chinese students in our town), insight on the scriptures, concordances, a few bound volumes, song books, km books, reasoning books, the entire bible on audio tape, and more.

Big fire at my parents' for most.
I just finally threw out another plastic bag full - the last of them. I'd forgotten I had a few copies of the Jesus book (omg, I can't even remember the name! The healing is coming along nicely!!), a couple songbooks, the Reasoning book and one of my kids' mini-bibles. I felt a *twinge* of guilt at throwing out their bible, just in case they wanted it. But then I thought "over my dead body they'll read that fake bible" and tossed it. It all went into the non-recycle trash that day. A JW is our trashman. hehe

I *love* this letter and think you should send it...to as many members of the cong as you can find addresses for. Or hand them out to those who do knock on your door.
It definitely needs to get into the hands of the JW bugging you or their elders -- a lot of food for thought for them and hopefully a seed planted.
Nice letter.

Specific banned shows, songs, etc...?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.
but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?
i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.

I remember Madonna being specifically mentioned from the podium. And maybe Britney Spears. The movie "Ghost" was mentioned in a #3 talk I think...
I remember my very.first.talk -- it was on astrology and I had my householder open it up by reading my horoscope. lmao oooopsies. I never got counseled on it as I was pretty newbie, but I think it's kinda funny now...

I was just curious as I'm in Iowa also. On the other side of the state from you, though. NW corner. Three counties over, three down.
And yeah, this mortgage thru the WTS is a win-win thing for them. Fleecers.

Some JW's will never see the light
by Pwned ini heard my father telling my sister that yesterday's watchtower study contained new information, ie 'new light'.
the thing is he was excited about it, said it gave him goosebumps.
how does that even make any sense?

what's your sign baby? ;)
by freedomloverr inwhere we live is a very *new agey*, *earthy* area.
when i was a witness i never thought twice about my astrological sign or how it relates to anyone else.
here, people are always asking what my sign is and i've really been entertained by how i see patterns with people in my life and how i've noticed i'm actually attracted to certain *signs* .

I'm a Leo, nearly Virgo (8/20). Rising sign Leo and most of my planets in Virgo (except for that Neptune in Scorpio thing). Brigid (from JWD) did a huge chart on me and it was very interesting how accurate it is.

The Sunday Thread!
by Crumpet ini just spent a helluva a long morning in bed even though i was awake early, then did some yoga before breakfast and a piping hot shower.
now i feel like i still have a whole fabulous day to enjoy doing exactly what i want.. in my other life i used to dread sundays.
i would read my book to take my mind off the imminent boredom right up until we got to the hall doors and then 2 hours of monotony would follow - the sickening nerves of making myself answer up, often choking mid sentence because i was so nervous, but worse was to come.

Oh how I love my Sundays now! Today is my sleep-day since I'm working tonight yet. In the past I'd "sleep fast" then go to the meeting. Braindead, but there for appearances. Then go back to work that evening/night, running on about 4-5 hours of sleep. If it wasn't a weekend I was working nights, it was the usual begrudgingly get out of bed, swipe the WT with a highlighter and trudge to the meeting... 1/2 day wasted. Yuck.
NOW -- ooooh so much better. Today, after sleeping fast, I'm going to a Daytona party with my man. Then back to work at 7 tonight. Running on 4-5 hours of sleep.
Our "normal" Sundays around here are usually jammies days. No alarm clock, no schedule. Sometimes no leaving the house, but having a Harry Potter or Star Wars movie marathon, cookie-baking frenzy etc. Ya know -- normal stuff.
